[aur-general] ttf-google-webfonts{,-distilled,-git,-hg} mess

I am the current maintainer of the AUR package ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4], and I'm bothered by the mess of various packages there are for Google's Web Fonts project. It's not at all KISS in its current state. There are currently four different AUR packages[1][2][3][4] that essentially supply the same files, and all four packages conflict with each other. Around August of 2012, the package named ttf-google-webfonts[1] was orphaned, and user w0ng created a GitHub repository[5] that mirrors the Mercurial repository[6] on Google Code (why?). Then, the new maintainer changed the original ttf-google-webfonts package from a VCS-type package that simply lacked "-hg" in the name to a package that pulls tarballs from w0ng's GitHub repo[5]. As you can see in the comments for ttf-google-webfonts[1], this has caused all sorts of confusion and messages about the package being out-of-date or having invalid checksums. To get around these issues, user epinephrine created the package ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] that clones w0ng's GitHub repo[5] instead of pulling tarballs from it, which significantly reduces the maintenance required on the package. Then, user Gently created a package named ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] that pulls a tarball from w0ng's GitHub repo[5] and only installs a small subset of the fonts therein. Shortly after ttf-google-webfonts[1] was changed from being a Mercurial-based package and not liking the direction that the package was taking, I reuploaded the original ttf-google-webfonts package as ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] for people that simply wanted the old package back that uses the actual Google Web Fonts repository to download the files. To clean up this mess, I propose that ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] and ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] be deleted outright, for what should be obvious reasons. I also propose that ttf-google-webfonts[1] be deleted because of how frequently the Web Fonts project is updated and because the project lacks version numbers. If people really feel strongly about keeping that maintenance nightmare, then let them have it, but I really don't see what advantage it provides over the original ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] other than one less makedepends. I apologize for the huge email, but this situation really is a mess. Hello everyone, I am Christian Rebischke (in the internet mostly known as 'shibumi') and I would like to increase my work in the Arch Linux Community and become Arch Linux TU. Thanks to Florian Pritz (bluewind) for being my sponsor. Maybe you know me already from the Arch Linux Security Team [1], but let me introduce me first. I was born in Goslar (Germany) in 1992 and I had first contact with Arch Linux with around 18. This is now more than 6 years ago. Before I had a long journey through the debian world with Ubuntu and Debian. Currently I study computer science at TU-Clausthal and I am halftime employed as Software Engineer at our Institute for Software Systems Engineering and as System Administrator at our Datacenter and the Institute for Mathematics [2]. January 2015 I started with my work in the Arch Linux Security Team and around half a year later I became official member of Arch Linux Security Team. If I recall correctly I pushed my first package into the AUR in 2014. At the moment I maintain 45 packages in the AUR [3]. Most of them are vim-plugins, python libraries or tools for malware analysis. I am interested in malware analysis, reverse engineering, large scale system administration, devops. I know python, bash, C, C++, Java, x86 assembler and some Rust, but I wouldn't call my self a professional developer. (Something that I want to change with my job in the Institute for Software Systems Engineering). Moreover I am quite active in the opensource community. I contributed small patches to systemd and others. The current project that I support with pull requests is powerlevel9k [4], a nice powerline for zsh. Non-technical interests are asian languages like Chinese (你们好，我会说一点点中文） and japanese (今日はみなさん), asian culture and cooking. If I become a TU I would want to adopt the following orphan packages in [community]: - ascii - audit - bup - connman Furthermore I would like to push the following packages from [AUR] to [community] (if the maintainers agree with it): - arch-audit - systemtap I also provide an Arch Linux Vagrant box and I would love to get 1-2 other people together and doing some official out of this [5]. I currently only provide virtualbox as hypervisor. My plan are monthly snapshots like CentOS does. [aur-general] Can't register an AUR account

Hi all, I'm trying to create an account in the AUR, I fill in the data and hit Create, but I just get this undescriptive error at the top: Error trying to create account, *'chibby0ne'*. I've tried it in Chrome, Chromium and Firefox so far. The aurweb version is 4.5. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Dear aurweb contributors and users, aurweb 4.5.0 has just been released. You will notice that after logging in, the home page is now replaced by a dashboard which shows your flagged packages and your recent package requests, followed by a list of your packages. There also is a list of packages you co-maintain which hopefully makes co-maintainers' lives easier. Moreover, co-maintainers of packages now receive out-of-date notifications. In your account settings, you can now specify a timezone which will be used to format dates and times throughout the whole aurweb interface. The most notable internal improvements were made in password security. The minimum password length was bumped to 8 characters. Passwords are now hashed using bcrypt instead of MD5. The conversion from MD5 to bcrypt is done automatically when logging in. We thus recommend to log out of the aurweb interface and log in again. There were also improvements to the SSH interface, including new commands to vote for packages and flag packages out-of-date. For a comprehensive list of changes, please consult the Git log [2]. As usual, bugs should be reported to the aurweb bug tracker [3]. [aur-general] Pruning Old / Abandoned Packages

Hi, I've been wading through orphaned AUR packages and submitting removal requests for projects that are abandoned upstream. Are there generally any rules of thumb I should be following? Currently I've been considering the following before submitting a removal request: 1. Is the upstream project abandoned? 2. When was the package flagged out of date? (If applicable) 3. When the package was last updated? 4. When the last comment was made on a package? Suggestions are welcome!

Hello Everybody, i have some strange situation and I don't know is the error on my site or in "aur". I want to provide some new packages in aur. For this package I need haskell- curl. This Package was not available in aur webinterace and in the old aur. Therefor I start to create it. Then I want to Upload it and I start git clone ssh://aur/haskell-curl.git the short aur. is a alias in my ssh config. But this Repo is not empty. In this repo is a running haskell-curl PKGBUILD but why I can't find it in aur? Can anybody help me? Sincerely Yours Carsten Feuls

Hi, I'd like to put 3 new packages in the AUR. They are a part of one "kit", but are very different in functionality, therefore I think it will be better to introduce 3 packages, instead of one, which contains them all.
