[aur-general] TVMobili PKGBUILD

Hey everyone, Brand new here. I'm switching to Arch Linux as my primary OS. I use TVMobili<http://www.tvmobili.com/> for all my DLNA streaming needs and was surprised it wasn't in the AUR. So, here is my first PKGBUILD. I think I hit the appropriate standards, but please let me know if I missed anything. namcap doesn't through any errors and the PKGBUILD works from scratch on my pc. It requires 32 bit libs. I was hoping to get it reviewed and added to the AUR. I'm interested in maintaining it as well. The only thing I wouldn't mind getting working is having the program work under a user instead of having to SUDO it. A couple of additional questions I didn't really find answers to. Is there any process of automatically updating PKGBUILDs? Do I just keep tabs on tvmobili updates and update the version number, link, and md5sum, test it, then post it back to the AUR? Hello, The package sfc ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=11363 ) should be used by simple flashcards: http://0au.de/apps/sfc/ Current users of sfc should be using the more canonically named package soundfontcombi ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=45868 ) in place of the sfc package. Would it be best to just add a notice that the software of the package is changing in a new package that I upload? The version numbers are different though. I'm not sure of the best way to resolve this situation. Thanks, Andreas Wagner

Hi I recently created a package mlorg-git. Unfortunately, the first PKGBUILD uloaded on the AUR named the package mlorg. I noticed the error and submitted a new package named mlorg-git, and then flagged out-of-date the mlorg package. My name is Andrzej Giniewicz and I'm 26 years old, living in Poland. I'm working towards getting my PhD in Mathematical Statistics (same discipline I graduated), meantime working as an IT guy at the same institute. I'm interested in photography, typography, game development and some more common stuff like good music or books. My adventures with using Linux started in year 2001. It was quite some time ago and the distribution that came with my new computer was just released Red Hat 7.1 (back then, with new and shiny kernel 2.4.2). I used this distribution for some time, but after getting internet connection I started looking for alternatives, especially that back then the development was fast and changes were visible every day – mostly due to the look of Gnome 1. Anyway, I later traveled trough multiple distributions including Mandrake, Debian, Aurox and some others that no longer exists. I even tried Ubuntu and used it for 15 minutes. After long search, around 7 years ago I switched to Slackware and if it wasn't for slow glibc updates (and bug in old version which stopped me from using Hight Performance Erlang virtual machine) I would probably be still using Slackware, but now, I'm happy Arch user for 5 years (starting with version 0.7). Right now I maintain 5 machines running Arch, including two workstations and 3 servers, both at home and at work. I decided it's finally time to give something back to community for saving me so much time during those years. I started by providing packages. First one landed in AUR in 2009, so 3 years ago. In 2011 I was asked about becoming a TU for the first time, but back then I decided I don't have enough time. This year I sorted some stuff, including fixing quality of lots of my packages and finding more free time, so I decided to give it a try. Right now I maintain 72 packages, list of which you can see at [1] and [2] with some description. Most of my packages are related to science, this includes two scientific distributions of Python – Python(x,y) and Enthough Python Distribution plus dependencies. I try to keep them in shape because I teach using Python, Sage, OpenCL and (soon) Arduino. Also I'm an active developer for some projects and less active for others. I haven't done anything for some time for Wings 3D although I'm still on list of active authors [3], I'm also on developer map of mathematical package Sage [4]. I also wrote LaTeX package for typesetting books for CreateSpace self-publishing service [5]. Other project that started directly in AUR are scripts for The Elderscrolls Arena and Daggerfall AUR packages. They are scripts in Perl and Python which provide support for launching and modding the game (it includes about 2500 lines of code). I also sent smaller patches to other projects like MyPaint. During the transition for linuxwacom to xf86-input-wacom I worked on AUR package providing latest patches cherry-picked from git and reported results to mailing list every week or so. As for languages I actively develop in, I mostly use Python, Erlang, BASH, OpenCL and some C/C++. To name some more I also know Haskell, Perl, Ocaml, Java, Lua, TeX (including coding some exotic stuff like calculating natural logarithm using TeX primitive commands) and some domain specific languages (Mathematica, Matlab, R). There are also some other languages I did one or two projects in and not use anymore. This allows me to fix a large amount of bugs I encounter in packages I maintain or cooperate with upstream to fix them. I usually try to get back to person reporting bugs no later than 2 days after I receive notification about comment in AUR and replicate it so I can try fixing it. The visible part of my contacts with Arch community isn't that high, but this is mostly because I'm direct kind of person. Usually I prefer to get in touch with people by e-mail or gtalk, asking very specific questions or answering questions I get. I follow multiple mailing lists including aur-general and arch-general and I always react if e-mail is related to packages I maintain. I try to scatter rest of my time in multiple directions, without favoring one place or another. This includes other projects wikis and mailing lists, like linuxwacom-devel, sage-devel, sage-support or even Daggerfall hacking pages on uesp.net where I discussed things I learned when creating modding support for the game. As you probably know, fish release available in [community] is very old. Code hasn't been updated since 2009. Official website doesn't work currently, but there was the info that development is stalled. Alex Søndergaard suggested switching to Ridiculous Fish' fork[1]. It provides almost identical set of features, but I'm not sure about compatibility, that's why it goes to [community-testing] first. Current release "beta2" is rather pacman unfriendly, but incoming stable release will be versioned as "2.0", so say hello to fish-2.0b2. Happy testing! Hi, I'd like to request that xen be orphaned so that I can adopt it: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=14640 I've contacted the maintainer (revellion) by e-mail yesterday (I know nowhere near the two weeks but believe the rest of this post is relevant). Since the last update in 2011, there have been three serious Xen Security Advisories with patches: http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-announce/2012-06/msg00001.html http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-announce/2012-06/msg00003.html http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-announce/2012-06/msg00002.html The maintainer has not upgraded the package to support these patches. He also hasn't changed the dependency for 'xz-utils' to 'xz'. The package was marked out of date. Finally, he has not responded on the AUR comments, including two addressed directly to him by 'aaronfitz' and 'fatmike' in January and March respectively. All of the above leads me to believe that he's no longer active. I will update this thread after 2 weeks if he hasn't responded, unless a TU takes the decision that my research is enough to show that the user is not active.

Hi, I've recently seen some comments in AUR, where a user points out that X package works well on powerpc/arm. I was wondering what's the general approach given to these architectures on AUR; since AUR is unsupported, is it ok to add these architectures to the PKGBUILD's arch array? If it is ok, is it *advised* to do so when apropriate? Supported architectures should see absolutely no change regarding these packages, and unsupported one will benefit from it. Hi, A month ago, I added a comment and then emailed /csgeek/, the maintainer of "qxmpp" AUR package, in order to keep the package up-to-date. Unfortunately, I didn't get any answer, and his package is stuck at version 0.3, whereas the latest upstream version is 0.5. Can someone declare "qxmpp" package as orphaned ? Thanks !

[aur-general] KDE Package Guidelines (aka AUR plasmoids mess)

Hi all, I just received a mail where the user ask me to rename a plasmoid package in AUR. He suggests to rename it as kdeplasma-addons-applets-$plasmoidname, but this is obviously wrong as kdeplasma-addons is the name of the *official* KDE package. If we would rename all our packages in that way, will be really difficult, for both users and maintainer, to understand if we are talking about an official kde plasmoid or not. So, I thought about two naming conventions: * kdeplasma-applets-$plasmoidname * plasma-applets-$plasmoidname Sincerely, I prefer the first one as all kde packages start with the kde prefix. I also wrote a simple KDE package guidelines page[1] taking this opportunity. Any suggestion is much appreciated. [aur-general] Delete cx_oracle package

Hi. How do I remove cx_oracle package? I've been maintaining it for some time and now have created 2 new ones to conform to Arch policy: python-cx_oracle and python2-cx_oracle as was suggested by another cx_oracle user. Original author of cx_oracle said he doesn't have permissions to delete the package and I should ask AUR admin. So I'm asking :) Thanks.

[aur-general] Usefulness of conky-lua-nv-dev

Hello, this conky-lua-nv-dev[1] package is really outdated and all the development is done in git nowadays. I left a comment two weeks ago, but the maintainer did not respond. I did not email him though. The conky-git[2] package allows the users to configure cmake themselves, so it is possible for them to enable nvidia and lua if they want. Of course, they have to manually install the dependencies, but dev packages are aimed at more advanced users anyway. For the sake of simplicity and a cleaner AUR, perhaps [1] should be removed? Hi, This is a cleanup on "C Compiler for PIC24 MCUs and dsPIC DSCs" packages in aur. Please delete [1]hitech-dspicc-bin, it's only needed for really old code. Please merge [2]microchip-mplabc30_bin into [3]microchip-mplabxc16-bin, c30 was replaced by XC16, I keep it for compability and because XC16 is too new, but since C30 don't like to work anymore with arch glibc is better simple move on to XC16. Hi, I just added a comment to https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31746 It seems the package has not changed since two years, even it was flagged out of date. I now sent a link to the sources (the old place was not available anymore). How long should I wait until the maintainer updates the package? I would adapt the package if the maintainer will not update the package. I also did added the maintainer into Cc of this mail, hoping to get soon response. Ciao, Oliver

Hi! I just wanted to let everybody know that I'm about to apply a patch to our AUR setup that fixes some CSRF vulnerabilities. This will probably break most (all?) AUR helpers (mis)using the AUR HTML interface. AUR helpers, that only make use of the RPC interface, won't be affected. I recommend using the web interface until the affected programs are fixed.

Hi I ask as a user one question. Do you think you are ready? I ask this because I see you do not participate in the community much. I see you only joined the forum 2 months ago and only have 4 posts. You also sent very little to the mailing list. You only have 4 submitted packages with more than 5 votes. The majority of your aur packages are Git editions. You said yourself you have no packages that need to be in community. What have you done to show you should be trusted user? You say you want to be trusted user to give back? Why not wait a bit longer and prove what you can give to the community? It seems you want to be trusted user and then give back. It should always be the other way around. Those who give to community become trusted user. I'm not trying to be mean, but as a user who becomes a trusted user effects me. The decision by other trusted users decides that I must trust you as well. I ask other trusted users to think about whether it may be a little to soon, but I think it may be. Sorry for my english.

The CVS repository on sf.net has been silent ever since year 2009 or so. The upstream(although development is not active ) now uses git for version control and is now hosted on github[1] . This guy is posting spam on all aur packages. This garbage has the effect of disrupting wrappers such as yaourt which downloads and displays the comments. The terminal gets completely messy.

Not sure who is in charge of this nowadays... (I don't think I can but maybe I'm missing something) Please remove user "testificate" from AUR and all his package/posts. Also block his IP if you can. The user is spamming the AUR. Thanks. Ronald

This user seems to be spamming the AUR comments with some gibberish (attempt at hacking?). An example: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18909 [0;0H[4m[5m[97;107m[8m(0[2J The content seems to be the same.
