[aur-general] Fixing stuff in [community] repos

Hi, While moving the python rebuilds I noticed the following packages have issues: - cgmail - gammu - mathomatic The all have commits in community-staging and some of them had entires in the db but not a package in sight. I'm not sure what happened there but someone needs to clean this up (rebuild and upload to community-testing should be fine). While I am at it, everybody make sure they upload packages using devtools. If you do not, we end up with really strange commits in the repos (e.g. repos/community - note the lack of arch) and this causes issues with ABS. I am getting really annoyed with cleaning these up so I will start naming the people who do not use the official tools for interacting with the repos and maybe blocking access if it keeps up... I'm not filing (a) bug(s) for these since there's no harm done, but this should serve as a reminder to everyone that we should check our buildscripts for sourcing compatibility whenever possible, for the sake of clarity and consistency. The currently affected PKGBUILDs are as follows: ./community/perl-datetime/PKGBUILD bash: printf: 0,61: invalid number ./community/perl-parse-recdescent/PKGBUILD bash: printf: 1,965001: invalid number ./community/haskell-x11/PKGBUILD error: package "ghc" not found ./community/haskell-x11-xft/PKGBUILD error: package "ghc" not found For the perl packages: provides=("perl-datetime=`printf %.4f ${pkgver/./,} | sed 's#,#.#'`") I don't know what the intention is with ${pkgver/./,} | sed 's#,#.#' but it does not work, as it's replacing "." with "," and then back to ".", but printf naturally fails to deal with the decimal being replaced by a comma. If I understood this correctly, the line should read: provides=("perl-datetime=$(printf "%.4f %s\n" ${pkgver})") For the other two: _ghcver=`pacman -Q ghc | cut -d\ -f 2 | cut -f 1 -d -` depends=("ghc=${_ghcver}" 'libx11') Again, I don't know why go through the trouble of checking a local package that may not exist on all systems (Sergej?). Better "hardcode" the numbers and be done with it.

Forgot all about it because I subsequently created and still use nvidia-beta-all. Doubt anyone is using this package, since as it is it would not work at all (version is woefully out of date compared to nvidia-utils-beta which it depends on ). Please delete.

Currently extra/scons-1.3.0-1 is marked out-of-date, which is probably due to the fact that since last month, version 2 has become the stable branch upstream. From http://www.scons.org: "14 June 2010 SCons production release 2.0.0.final.0 is now available from the download page at SourceForge. This is the production release for the 2.0 series. The 2.0 series drops support for all pre-2.4 versions of Python. See the ChangeLog for a complete list of changes in the release." Version 1 is still supported, as evidenced by the development branch updates: "26 June 2010 SCons release 1.3.0.d20100626 is now available from the download page at SourceForge. Fix the ability to append to default $*FLAGS values (which are implemented as CLVar instances) in a copied construction environment without affecting the original construction environment's value. See the ChangeLog for a complete list of changes in the release." The following are the packages that makedepend on scons: == extra == hydrogen ardour linuxdcpp == community == ffmpeg2theora oregano btanks kleansweep pingus dangerdeep fceux mypaint glob2 We can either update it to version 2 or move version 1 to a scons1 package. The renowned shooter game 'epiar' actually has a new version with lower version numbers. (current 0.4.1 is newer than 0.5) The build system of the original source archive is partially broken. However I managed to make up a environment that runs. 1) forgive the original build() function, use sh autogen.sh && ./configure --prefix=/usr && make || return 1 2) because the Lua library comes with it doesn't honour DESTDIR, and the fact that we don't need it since already have one. comment out the entire "install:" block for Source/Lua/Makefile 3) the original 'make install' is broken because it only installs the binary. actually the 'Resource' directory is also needed. 4) make a wrapper script to run the game. -- Li Ian-Xue http://b4283.ath.cx

Actually, after this list of packages was first posted, I emailed a few of the maintainers to see if they were still interested in maintaining the packages, and if so could they update them or else let us know that they can be orphaned. I imagine that there are a few like this who would appreciate some prompting. In another case, the maintainer told me that the packgage was a duplicate of another and could be deleted. I wonder if a better approach might be to have the ability for TUs (or others?) to trigger a "we don't think you're maintaining this any more, it will be orphaned soon if you don't do anything" notification. If the maintainer doesn't unflag it, update it, whatever within a period of time, the package is automatically orphaned. I'm hesitant about going ahead and bulk orphaning things, if only because with the small amount of effort I put in I found a maintainer who was still willing and just forgot. Pete. Hi This package does not build against the current repos so will need fixed by someone before it gets rebuilt for python2. It seems the issues is a newer vala, and the patch will look something like: http://code.google.com/p/pino-twitter/issues/attachmentText?id=309&aid=7997… The only addition needed for building against python2 is to add "export PYTHON=python2" before the ./waf lines. It's his only package, created in Aug 2007 and never updated. The PKGBUILD misses dependencies, uses the wrong license, installs into hardcoded ruby 1.8 directories, etc. I'd like to adopt it, I have a working package ready which includes a patch for ruby 1.9.x. python-numeric is old, replaced by python-numpy and has had issues on x86_64 since python-2.5. These issues are far more noticeable in python-2.7 (as in python-numeric just does not work...), so I intend to drop this package from the repos. Two packages in [community] depend on it: freevo, gogh. When python-numeric gets dropped, so will these packages unless their maintainers (or someone else) do something about it. Both look like they can use numpy instead... Allan

As cairo 1.10 introduces LCD filtering (http://tinyurl.com/35vznmr) cairo-lcd and lib32-cairo-lcd from AUR are no longer needed. If they're removed, maybe we should add a 'replaces' entry in cairo and lib32-cairo. (request to arch-dev-general?) Besides, I wonder if libxft-lcd (in community) and its 32-bit counterpart in AUR are still useful, since I get LCD filtering with bare libxft, the only needed package from AUR was fontconfig-lcd. Hi is there any way to be notified when an AUR package is disowned? I'm trying to take a more active role in the community so I'm trying to adopt some packages. I've already gone through pretty much all the orphaned packages now and adopted the ones that I thought I could maintain well. This package http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=27124 has been out of date for quite some time, and his maintener hasn't yet answered my email. I believe he is no longer interested in maintaining it. I have attached my updated PKGBUILD, i have tested on both my machines (i686&x64) and it works fine.
