[aur-general] perl prereleases request to make official decision to deviate from general guidleines

I'm working on a PKGBUILD for perl 5.12 and I notice that it's providing 20 some odd prerelease modules. I'm annoyed but I can't do anything about it. The general PKGBUILD guidelines say use the same as upstream unless there is a hyphen. so for a perl prerelease of 0.90_1 that guideline follows to release it as exactly the same. However 0.90_1 is == 0.90.1 and greater than 0.90 which it is a prerelease for on cpan. I'd like to suggest that for perl the official guideline be to make the version 0.90_pre1 Dist::Zilla a release automation tool also allows for using a format _TRIAL which is not yet popular on cpan but does happen should pacman add a _trial ? to the list of options? so CPAN use something like 0.90_1 to mean 0.90_rc1 however I know that pacman see's this as 0.90.1 (essentially not literally) making it greater than 0.90. would just packaging it as 0.90_rc1 make it appear as less than 0.90? [aur-general] TU application: Jan Steffens

Greetings, My name is Jan Alexander Steffens and I'm a 22 year old CS student living in Karlsruhe, Germany. I've been introduced to Linux in high school, where the administration team (which mainly consisted of students) were avid supporters of free software. Since then, I went through quite a few distributions: SuSE, Mandrake, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian. Gentoo was the first distribution that got me interested in getting to know the internals a bit more. About a year ago, a fellow CS student introduced me to Arch. After I blew up my Fedora installation (accidentally wrote to /dev/root), I chose to give Arch a try. I got hooked. Its simplicity really makes it a joy to tinker with. :) Especially creating packages and offering them to others (AUR) is something Arch made easy. I currently run two Arch systems, one on my laptop and one on a headless box mainly acting as a router. Both are getting packages from [testing]. Arch is the first distribution I actually started contributing back to. I began frequenting the Archlinux channels on Freenode, now and then helping out others and asking my own questions. I reported bugs I found, and I uploaded and maintain 15 packages in the AUR [1]. I use Pulseaudio on my laptop: Some of my packages in the AUR center on it, and I gave the wiki page on Pulseaudio an overhaul. I'm interested in taking over maintenance of the pulseaudio packages in [community] and improve Pulseaudio on Arch Linux. A few days ago, I finally got up the nerve to write about my gripes with the gvim package and propose a solution [2]. I was overwhelmed with the positive response. Now Dan Griffiths approached me and offered to sponsor my application as a TU. Thank you, Dan. Could someone please orphan pure-ftpd-mysql? (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26022) since it is outdated and i dont get any reply from the maintainer by mail. Someone should also consider removing pure-ftpd-tls (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25531) since it is even older, and it is not needed now that pure-ftpd from [extra] is built with tls. Hello, can anyone delete my package widelands-svn [1]? Development moved to bazaar quite some time ago (I think the widelands-svn is even older than stable widelands). Currently there is no widelands-bzr on AUR and I don't intend to do it but I thing removal of this really old package could force others to do this job. [aur-general] installing files for a specific user

Hi, I wonder whether it's possible to install files for a user automatically. Sometimes it would be appropriate to create user specific files instead of or in addition to the system wide files. I wonder whether this is possible and how. I guess it would at least require a post-install hook in the install file but that's as far as my guess goes. Thanks, Philipp

[aur-general] [lablgtk2] Package error - please delete!

Hi all, Sincere apologies, I packaged a modified version of lablgtk2 and submitted it to AUR, without realizing the policy on naming. I've orphaned it, could someone please delete it? I've submitted a bug against lablgtk2 to change the compile options (as an aside, the extra version is broken right now anyway), and if that doesn't come through I'll resubmit as something like lablgtk2-opt (includes the optimized machine code objects of the library as well).
