Hi, first of thanks Jason for incorporating my changes :). However, just today I discovered some issues with srcpac I haven't noticed before. Today I tried to build a customized version of vim, and found out that srcpac used the PKGBUILD of the vim in [testing]. This is due to the fact that it uses find to lookup the package candidates. The easiest method to fix this is to put the configs into /etc/srcpac.d/<repo>/<package> and check against that. Sorry for noticing this just now, the packages I've tested before all worked without any problems :S. I've patched srcpac accordingly and pushed the changes to my public repo again. I think the idea behind /usr/share is that you copy the data to where you actually want to host it. If you have custom error pages you wouldn't even bother with /usr/share and just put copies of those pages where you're hosting (/srv/www for example).

[arch-general] Out dated packages in extra - What to do ?

Hello, what is the policy for extra out-of-date packages. I'm thinking about eclipse and antlr.... The first one gave birth to its AUR up to date counterpart : eclipse-bin, and I've got an antlr3 package at hand, but I do not want to make it in AUR without knowing if it is good practice. Those package are flagged as out-of-date. The bts policy is to not open bug for such a request, so as a last resort, I send this mail... There was already some discussion about this problem in the end of 2007; see http://readlist.com/lists/archlinux.org/arch/1/6979.html Thank you for any tip. PS. [arch-general] gdm not found when booting into runlevel 5

I already have one instance of Archlinux installed that has xorg, and KDE installed, and from looking at /var/cache/pacman/pkg, I also have gdm installed. Now this instance of Archlinux works fine, and I can login to KDE with no problems. The graphics driver is trident, and according to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, that is the one that is being used. I now have installed another instance of Archlinux (Don't Panic) on a new machine that I've built. Mobo is Asus M2N-X Plus, and has no onboard graphics card, so I installed one with an ati chipset . Booting into Archlinux is ok, and I did a pacman -S xorg, and after that, a startx started the xserver with no problems, apart from the usual crappy display. I then did a pacman -S kde, and a whole bunch of kde stuff was installed, but a reboot, and changing to runlevel 5 just brought me back to the text (runlevel3) login. Looking at my earlier install of Don't Panic, I see that I'd also installed the gdm package, so I installed it on my new install of Don't Panic. Doing a reboot after this, there is no change, and booting up, and appending the kernel line to 5 has no effect, and I still find myself in runlevel 3. Is there some file that I need to edit, in order to use gdm as the display manager? Nigel.

Has anyone had any issues like this with X ? X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 102 (X_ChangeKeyboardControl) Serial number of failed request: 2090 Current serial number in output stream: 2091 It looks like an X issue...but how the hell do I fix/workaround ?

[arch-general] Problem starting vsftpd service. (Don't Panic)

On the new instance of Archlinux, that I've installed on my new machine, I wanted to avoid downloading all the updates again on my dialup connection, so thought I'd just FTP the pkg directory from the first install to the new install. For some reason I cannot start the vsftp daemon, just giving me a fail. The capability module is in the modules section of /etc/rc.conf, as is vsftpd in the daemons section. I looked on my first install of Don't Panic, and see the same thing there, and do remember that I had problems with vsftpd, but worked around it by starting gftp in Archlinux, and FTP'ing from another machine FC2, that did have the daemon running. I've worked around it by using fish in KDE's Konqueror on the first install, and have successfully moved the files over to the new install, but would like to find out why vsftpd won't start, and how I can fix it. [arch-general] Problem with Transient resolver failure with pacman (Don't Panic)

I have Archlinux running on one machine with no problems, but the install was done a while back. I've just installed it on a new machine that I've built, but am having problems running pacman -Sy. The network setup is ok. I use static IP addresses, and everything is correctly set. /etc/resolv.conf has the correct nameserver set, and the gateway 192.168.0.1 in /etc/rc.conf is active by removing the "!". Running pacman -Sy though is constantly giving me a "Transient resolver failure" . Pacman -Sy is trying every mirror on the planet, and must have worked it's way through at least 30 up to now. There must be some setting that I havn't got right. Any suggestions would be most definately gratefully received. Nigel.
