[arch-general] Why does my sound work sometimes & not others?

Listmates, I have the most atavistic sound known to mankind on my laptop running arch. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. However, if I log out and then back it, most times the sound is gone -- dead. The sound will not start again until I reboot. Anybody got any ideas on what to check or what to keep a watch out for? [arch-general] Option "XkbLayout" doesn't work?

Hi folks, It looks like the setting of keyboards layouts in xorg.conf doesn't work anymore, or I'm missing something? ----------------------8<---------------------- Section "InputDevice" ..... Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "evdev" Option "XkbLayout" "us,ru,am" Option "XkbVariant" ",phonetic,phonetic" ..... EndSection ----------------------8<---------------------- The only way I can set up the kbd layout is the using "setxkbmap" with the same settings in my "~/.xinitrc". Is it a bug of a "feature" of the new X? Cheers, Sergey

[arch-general] Gnome update failed

Hello everyone, the last month when I was trying to update with pacman -Syu, this error message showed up: usr/sbin/gconfpkg: line 18: 21838 Violaci�n de segmento GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`/usr/bin/gconftool-2 --get-default-source` /usr/bin/gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule /usr/share/gconf/schemas/${pkgname}.schemas > /dev/null When I rebooted, I couldn't enter into Gnome again. The only thing I could see was a gray screen, but with the compiz effects activated (cube). I tried to downgrade and to force the installation of the package gnome, xorg-server and so on, but nothing happened. Now, I'm usin LXDE (a nice DE, by the way), but the update of gnome package keeps failing. Anyone with this trouble, any ideas about solving this issue? Thanks, Manolo.

Listmates: Needing to spruce up the cube caps on cube rotation in compiz (the old opensuse artwork just wouldn't do), I started messing around with some of the archlinux-artwork. I found one that I like and then added some finishing touches in gimp. [arch-general] kdm3 crash on logout - no apparrent errors

Listmates, After the kernel update, my kdm3 is crashing with each user logout. Basically, on logout you are dumped back to tty1 and must then login and issue kdm3 restart to restore the display manager. I am using the radeonhd driver. Before the latest update this didn't occur. What can I check to get information to help solve this puzzle? I've checked /var/log/messages.log and Xorg.0.log, but nothing is out of the ordinary. [arch-general] Opera Segfaults on x86_64 after kernel update

Listmates, After the kernel update to kernel26 2.6.29.3-1, opera is segfaulting for some reason. Opera doesn't event splash anything on the screen, it just dies. Here is what I get from the cli: 23:28 alchemy:~> opera -debugxerror opera: X Error: BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter) 5 Major opcode: 20 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0 I have no idea what a BadAtom is or if that is the problem. Hi, Finally, the new vi* packages are up. There will be a little migration pain. For optimal results, I recommend to "sudo rm /usr/bin/{view/rview}" before you run "sudo pacman -Syu" -T
