I just finished to get my computer running again, I did a "pacman -Suf", and the glibc issue made my machine unusable.. Anyway I fixed that easily without reinstalling anything luckily, but now on reboot I see something very strange. There is a process running and keeping my machine busy: 357 root 20 0 10700 1004 856 R 99.7 0.0 7:01.50 /bin/mount -o relatime /dev/sda3 /media/usbhd-sda3 but /dev/sda3 is not even a real partition "/dev/sda3 240975 625137344 312448185 5 Extended I can't kill that process and don't understand where it comes from... any idea?

[arch-general] login fails after update

Hello all, I did a complete upgrade following the instructions w.r.t. the /lib symlink, and indeed ended up with pacman -Su saying 'nothing to do' and /lib being a symlink. On rebooting I get the login prompt on tty1..6, but after entering a login nothing happens (no passwd prompt) and after a few seconds the screen is cleared and the login prompt returns. Any ideas ? -- FA A world of exhaustive, reliable metadata would be an utopia. It's also a pipe-dream, founded on self-delusion, nerd hubris and hysterically inflated market opportunities. [arch-general] Upgraded kmod, but --ignored linux & glibc, modules still in /lib - can I reboot safely?

Tom, All, I see the glibc /lib move is out of testing. I updated with --ignore linux,glibc and received an install warning from kmod stating: ==> Kernel modules are now only read from /usr/lib/modules... My modules are still shown in /lib. Does this mean I cannot reboot safely and expect it to work? Since I wanted to delay install of the new kernel and glibc, should I also have excluded kmod? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] Download wiki arch!

Hello, I've begun to use arch instead of Ubuntu, and it seems great, especially the (wiki.archlinux.org) but it is only available online, and I am in need of an offline source with such rich information, I did some googling, but all I get is how to download Wikipedia, or using of websucker.. So, is there anyway I can download wiki.archlinux.org, or anything equivalent? Any advice would be appreciated! Best regards.

[arch-general] rpcgen - cannot find any C preprocessor?

All, I have a new build error with tdebase (kdebase) in trinity that I think is the result of a hardwired path somewhere and some recent gcc change. The error I get is: [ 49%] Built target libkmanpart-module [ 49%] Generating nfs_prot_xdr.c cannot find any C preprocessor (cpp) rpcgen: C preprocessor failed with exit code 1 ?? It has always built without issue. Looking, I find https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1126084#p1126084 which references a hardcoded path problem in hamlib that was fixed by providing specific path information to rpcgen. My question is, has there been some change to gcc that would be expected to cause this type error? I ask to confirm this before I start hacking the TDE build files on my end. [arch-general] arch with a specific kernel version

I would like to create multiple arch linux installations with a specific (a quite old 2.6 version) kernel version. Is that in theory possible/easy? I have a new one recently created but the downport doesn't seem so easy, so maybe it would just be easier to start with an older one, any suggestions??
