[arch-general] rEFInd 0.6.4 + linux 3.7.2-1 fail to boot

Hi, everyone. I've a HP Pavilion g4 machine with UEFI, using rEFInd. After a upgraded to refind-efi 0.6.4-1 and linux 3.7.2-1, my system stopped to boot. rEFInd loads properly, and others boot options, like EFI Shell and Windows 8 are working, but trying to boot kernel 3.7.2 froze on the message in begin saying "Starting vmlinuz-linux ...kernel options". initrd was built correctly. This issue only occurs with linux 3.7.2, downgrading to 3.7.1 makes system bootable again (from where I'm writing). rEFInd config file is basically default, only with timeout changed to 5. [arch-general] Suggestions wanted: nvidia + nouveau in AUR PKGBUILD

I'm an nvidia user who finally decided to try out nouveau and currently have it working, but want to keep nvidia installed just-in-case. I also maintain nvidia-beta/lib32-nvidia-utils-beta/nvidia-utils-beta in the AUR. As far as I can see, keeping both nouveau and nvidia installed and usable is not difficult, especially with the new mesa split PKGBUILD. Basically I only need the following symlinks (may be a bit different from current:- 1. /usr/lib/libGL.so -> libGL.so.1 2. /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2.0 OR libGL.so.313.18 3. /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.0 -> mesa-libGL.so.1.2.0 4. /usr/lib32/libGL.so -> libGL.so.1 5. /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.1.2.0 OR libGL.so.313.18 6. /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2.0 -> mesa-libGL.so.1.2.0 7. /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so -> libglx.xorg OR libglx.so.313.18 I also need to blacklist nouveau (or remove the blacklist) for modprobe, currently done in /usr/lib/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf A few questions:- 1. The 'best' way I can figure is that all symlinks would be owned by a fake {lib32-}mesa-libgl-nvidia package. Only symlink 2, 5, and 7 above need changing when 'switching'. This would require manually running a script to change (followed by a reboot). The script can also fix the blacklist. 1a. Can the blacklist be fixed by renaming the file to not end with .conf or must it be moved out of /usr/lib/modprobe.d? 2. Alternatively, is there a way to get my bootloader to blacklist modules (modprobe.blacklist=nouveau or nouveau.blacklist=true as shown in [1]?) AND run a script which would 'fix' the symlinks before KMS? This would be preferable (and lower-maintenance for me) if possible. [arch-general] XDG variables no longer set

For some reason, after my last reboot (a kernel update), none of the XDG variables[1] (such as $XDG_CONFIG_HOME) are being set, which broke a lot of my configuration, as I rely on those in scripts. I was able to fix it by writing a script[2] to drop in /etc/profile.d/ that would create those directories and export the variables as required, but what I want to know is why they broke in the first place. Has anyone else experienced this? Hello. I installed Terminus from a source tarball and successfully set it as a console font (in /etc/vconsole.conf). How can I set it as a default system-wide monospace font? I've found this tutorial: http://orford.org/gtk/#fonts, but it doesn't explain how to use several fonts (is it possible?). The needed files (eg: ter-x16b.pcf.gz) are located in /usr/local/share/fonts. If the above is not possible, I'd like to enable it in Xterm and Emacs. Hello everybody, based on the thread "[RFC] Migration to MariaDB" in arch-dev-public by Bartłomiej Piotrowski I started playing with MySQL and MariaDB. I noticed both were polling every second: <... futex resumed> ) = -1 ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out) futex(0x1d48050, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 0 gettimeofday({1361806174, 246573}, NULL) = 0 futex(0x1d4808c, FUTEX_WAIT_BITSET_PRIVATE|FUTEX_CLOCK_REALTIME, 2849, {1361806175, 246573000}, ffffffff <unfinished ...> Searching Google I found that the problem may be caused by the leap second, though the load is not as high as some articles describe. (Continues polling vs. one poll a second.) However the polling stops as soon as I manually set the time with date -s and it start again if I run ntpdate to sync the time. As this is a notebook I rebooted more than once since the leap second happened. ;) What is going on? Hi, I followed the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/WebDAV#Server_.28Apache.29 exactly to setup webdav. After I restart the httpd.service, and cadaver test gave me error: $ cadaver http://localhost/dav Could not access /dav/ (not WebDAV-enabled?): 405 Method Not Allowed Connection to `localhost' closed. dav:!> ^CTerminated by signal 2. Here is the log from /var/log/httpd/127.0.0.1-access_log: ::1 - - [25/Feb/2013:23:32:07 -0700] "OPTIONS /dav/ HTTP/1.1" 200 - ::1 - - [25/Feb/2013:23:32:07 -0700] "PROPFIND /dav/ HTTP/1.1" 405 979 nothing special is reported in error_log. Hello, I travel a lot and have purchased a G-Grip Bluetooth speaker ( http://www.target.com/p/g-project-g-grip-portable-speaker-black-g-50/-/A-14…) with the intent of listening to music after I get back to the hotel and process data (I'm a land surveyor). I can pair with my Galaxy Nexus and the computer (Dell D620) but there is no sound coming from the G-Grip.. I have followed the directions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth and have not been able have the speaker play music. I get the following so I feel sure the devices are communicating. $ hcitool scan Scanning ... 00:1D:DF:59:66:4E G-GRIP The next step yields: $ sudo bluez-simple-agent Agent registered The next step yields: $ sudo bluez-simple-agent hci0 00:1D:DF:59:66:4E Release New device (/org/bluez/1094/hci0/dev_00_1D_DF_59_66_4E) I am not sure what this means, but it appears to be positive however there is no sound coming from the speaker. I use Audacious on my laptop to play music and have looked at the settings, to no avail. I have searched (like crazy) for a solution and have found nothing to solve this problem. My hunch is that the speaker doesn't require a password. The speaker documentation for pairing says: "BLUETOOTH OPERATION Pair with Bluetooth* capable devices to stream stereo audio wirelessly for music, movies, video games and apps. PAIRING 1. In Standby mode, press the Power Button to turn G-GRIP on and begin Bluetooth pairing (make sure that no cable is connected to the AUX Input). The Bluetooth LED will flash blue. 2. On your Bluetooth device, select "G-GRIP" from the device list to pair with it (*no password is required*). Once Bluetooth has paired successfully, the Bluetooth LED on G-GRIP will turn solid blue. 3. To clear the Bluetooth memory on G-GRIP, turn G-GRIP on and hold the Pairing Button for a few seconds" [emphasis mine] I am at a loss and to reiterate, I can't find anything on the web to help me solve this issue.
