hello members, I'm not used to compiling and therefore even less to compiling the kernel.... I followed the instructions given by this page <https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel/Arch_Build_System>. after compilation, if I modify/patch file src/linux-4.19/block/blk-core.c, do I have to replace the kernel ? the kernel and all its modules ? or just the module concerned by the change (if it concerns a module) ? regards, lacsaP.

Hello Arch, Does anyone know why all the executables in "mutagen" suddenly developed a numeral "2" at the end of their names? I would have preferred the names to stay the same for the sake of backwards compatibility. I checked with "asp checkout python2-mutagen", as I learned to do recently, and I saw that the renaming seems to be due to the following lines in the PKGBUILD for script in {mid3{cp,iconv,v2},moggsplit,mutagen-{inspect,pony}}; do sed -e "s/${script}/${script}2/g" -i setup.py sed -e 's/python/&2/' -i "tools/${script}" mv -v "tools/${script}"{,2} mv -v "man/${script}"{,2}.1 done but there is no comment in the PKGBUILD, and I could not find any note in the Git log explaining the addition of those lines... [arch-general] Arch Linux USB stick won't boot

Hello everyone, I tried installing archlinux-2019.03.01-x86_64.iso onto my Intel Compute Stick STCK1A8LFC, but got this at the very beginning when I tried booting a USB stick created by Rufus. https://imgur.com/a/nEjA248 <-- See picture at this link I did not experience the lack of booting the USB stick with any other distros I tried (about 6-7 others). They all booted fine and were created in Rufus the same way. BIOS setting is the same as others as well...UEFI shell disabled (that is a must), USB boot enabled, and Secure Boot disabled. There is no Legacy Boot/CSM option. Stuck on UEFI. See picture attached for what happens when I try to boot from the USB stick I created. Particulars... [arch-general] Why has all reference to RAID setup been removed from Install page?

Over the past few years the Beginner's Guide has been removed and our Install wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide) has been whittled down to a mere outline. After the thread "Arch Linux USB stick won't boot", I decided to check the Install page to see if there were any relevant links that should have helped with that problem. Surprisingly there was nothing. There is no "Troubleshooting" section at all. Looking closer, now all links to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/RAID#Installing_Arch_Linux_on_RAID are also removed which must be done between partitioning and formatting to install Arch to RAID. Shouldn't there be a note/link at the end of the the "Partition the disks" section "For installing Arch Linux on RAID"? It seems a quite a bit of "good" is gone from the Install guide. -- David C. Hi all It seems that allan@ has pushed some updates to bring the kernel up to 4.20, but they haven't yet showed up as a package. https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/commit/trunk/PKGBUILD?h=pac… Is this an expected / known issue? Is there anything I can do to help? It seems like they are lagging the rest of the kernel packages. [arch-general] Suggestion: switch to zstd -19 for compressing packages over xz

Hi, It's now been about half a year since support for zstd landed in our packaging tools. I've been quietly using it for all my locally built packages since then with no issues. I think it would be worthwhile to have a discussion about whether to use zstd for officially built packages. Here is a brief summary of negatives and positives: Negatives: * Changing things takes time and might break someone's workflow. * Zstd -19 results in slightly larger files than xz -6 (default). Positives: * Change would be invisible to most users. * Would keep Arch Linux on top of the latest in packaging tech. * Updating would be much faster for most users. To expand on that last point: for reasonably fast connections, the additional time required to decompress xz compressed packages means that updating can actually take more time than it would for packages that are not compressed at all! Because zstd is designed to have very fast decompression, for a wide range of modern broadband connections zstd -19 is the fastest algorithm to download and decompress. For example, check out this compression test (with the Mozilla dataset): https://quixdb.github.io/squash-benchmark/unstable/ Or look at my local test with the most recent Firefox package: Tool Compression time Size Time to DL (100 Mbps) + decompress xz -6 5m 53s 49 MB 0m 21s zstd -19 6m 0s 53 MB 0m 6s So while xz and zstd compress in about the same amount of time and result in files of similar size, from the user's standpoint zstd results in much faster updates. Hi folks . i have a problem when i built this system i thought i had allowed enough space for the / partition but it seems now i was wrong . I do not really want to start again and rebuild the system . I have several spare drives lurking is it possible to add space to the partition by adding another drive mounting it as / ..
