[arch-general] PC build for hardware video acceleration

Dear community, I want to build a new CPU-focused Arch Linux PC. No requirements for GPU, except for H.265 4K decode, in decent profiles (whatever that means). What hardware is best supported by libraries like VA-API and VDPAU? Are there other relevant libraries? Which libraries are still maintained and up-to-date, which are open source? I see three options right now: 1. High-end Intel CPU (e.g. i9-9900K) w/ integrated HD 630 GPU, or 2. CPU w/o iGPU (e.g. AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X) + dedicated, low-end AMD GPU (e.g. Radeon RX 560) 3. CPU w/o iGPU and low-end NVidia GPU (e.g. GTX 1050) I couldn't find out which setup works best using the wiki and other sources. Maybe anyone could point me to the right direction? What hardware is recommended for good H.265 4K playback on GPU? Thanks in advance, kind regards, L.

Hi there Archers, I am moving from manjaro i3 to Arch now, already started customizing i3 to my need. Has anyone seen how the "b-menu" in Manjaro i3 is?..it contains bluetooth, network manger etc.. binded to mod+ctrl+b keys by default. how can i get a similar one to my Arch config?.. please guide me. [arch-general] Intel Wireless AC 3165 not working on install media

Hi guys. I'm trying to install Arch on my new notebook, but I can't make my WiFi adapter to work. I'm following Install Guide\Wireless Network Configuration\WPA_supplicant to connect, but it's not working.. Looks like I can't set WiFi adapter UP. [arch-general] 5.2 kernel, Virtualbox console takes on video-mode size -- nice.

All, With the 5.2 kernel, virtualbox no longer boots to the GRUB_GFXMODE, but instead boots to the video-mode-hint given to virtualbox. That is a welcomed change. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

[arch-general] Unmaintained project with active community fork - what to do with the package?

Hi all, please help me in handling the following situation. The bash-bats package ( https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/any/bash-bats ) uses the upstream repository ( https://github.com/sstephenson/bats ), which is no longer maintained by its owner ( https://github.com/sstephenson/bats/issues/150 ). Looks like the project moved to a community-maintained fork ( https://github.com/bats-core/bats-core ), which already reached version 1.1.0 and includes crucial fixes, while the original project stays untouched for a long while. What would be the correct approach here: ask the maintainer of bash-bats package to switch to the active fork, or leave this deprecated package as it is and create an AUR package for the fork?
