Hi, I'm looking for some advice trying to pinpoint why or where my system has becoming almost unusable slow. Searching the web I've found some hints but nothing precise enough. Maybe it's a failing HDD, but I'm first posting what I have until now in the hope someone can give some advice. Superficial symptoms are a general slowness. I'm using just IceWM and `startx` to initialize the GUI, and even logging into my account previous to that takes almost a minute to get done. Then any application I launch takes minutes to just start (from IceWM to firefox, from qtox to pcmanfm or geany, etc.). Even navigate the folders tree with pcmanfm takes 10 or more seconds just to show any folder content... [arch-general] boot magically mounted on startup; reliable?

Hello! On my latest install I forgot to mount the boot partition during the installation process, which prompted me to come back on a few of the steps after setting up the root filesystem. Everything works great (with systemd-boot) but I just remembered one thing I missed was adding an entry in fstab for /boot. ZFS is in AUR. I wonder what is the reason why it is not moved to the Arch repos? The zfs-linux package has 250 votes, the zfs-dkms has 137, and the zfs-linux-lts has 70. I am aware about the possible license incompatibility between the kernel which uses GPL2 and ZFS which uses CDDL, however even Debian which is strict about several things such as what is 'free software', has ZFS in its main repos.

[arch-general] Virtualbox - rdesktop access only shows 1024x768 active in window of 1440x864?

All, Accessing virtualbox guests on Arch server with rdesktop will only show 1024 x 768 active (meaning background, taskbar, mouse movement, etc.) in window of 1440 x 864. This started around linux 5.17.6 and continues through the current kernel. What changed and what do I need to do to be able to see the entire window? [arch-general] 5.18 reboot halts on "kvm: exiting virtual machine", requires hard reset

All, My server will no longer reboot with kernels from about 5.18.5 or so on. The reboot stops after everything is shut down and reboot is called, but the next line on the error output on the screen says something like: kvm: exiting virtual machine At this point the box is hardlocked and I have to use the hardware reset button to finish the reboot (not good on remote admin'ed machines) I have two boxes that have developed this issue and both have older AMD video cards, so I wonder if this failure to reboot is related to: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/74346 Could the amdgpu null-pointer bug on boot be what is causing the reboot to hang? Hello everyone, I installed arch 5.18.9-arch1-1 on a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11. Initially my speakers weren't working. Following the arch wiki, I installed sof-firmware and added the following to /etc/modprobe.d/audiofix.conf: options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0 options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-amic enable=yes After that speakers started to work. However, my mic is still not working. I'm using plain alsa, and amixer command to control audio. I have already increased the volume of the mic using `amixer set Capture '100%'` for which I see the following output. Hey hey, this is a strange error. Be terrific if someone could provide an update on where things stand for arch migration to Openssl 3? We're coming up on the 1 year anniversary of openssl 3 with 3.0.4 released last week. As I recall there was some work happening to ensure things continue to work properly. My loose understanding is that openssl 3 has ABI changes but the API changes seem to be quite limited. The arch tracker site [1] shows 26 core packages as incomplete - though it's bit unclear from the site what the actual problems are. It also shows many many other packages similarly "incomplete" Fedora 36, which was released May 10 this year is, I believe, built against openssl 3. This at least strongly suggests that most "normal" packages work fine with rebuild of recent versions. We always have recent versions :) Taking a couple of examples from the tracker page [1]: 1) openssh shows the current version as incomplete. The openssh docs suggest openssl 3 support was made available in version 8.1p1 while it was still in dev. 2) cryptsetup - seems to be compatible as of 2.4.0. current version is 2.4.3).
