[arch-general] Gummiboot and EFISTUB booting irregularities

Hi all, I couldn't find a better way of phrasing this as I'm not quite sure what the problem is or how to debug this. I have Arch with the 3.15.1-1 kernel installed on an HP laptop (intel motherboard), booting using gummiboot and the EFISTUB loader. When I start my laptop (or restart it) and select the Arch Linux entry in the gummiboot menu, I sometimes only see a blank screen instead of any error messages or any of the usual boot text. Ctrl+Alt+Del reboots my laptop. Seemingly at random, if I try again at this point, Arch sometimes boots and sometimes doesn't. Journalctl does not list any entries at all for the failed boot attempts. Can anyone suggest any ways of debugging/solving this? Thanks!

Hello, I have a LUKS drive (called "locker-1"), which is necessary to be properly mounted before ZFS can import my pool on boot. I believe systemd needs to be explicitly configured to mount dm-crypt devices before doing anything ZFS-related, but I'm relatively new to working with systemd so I'm stuck on the implementation. For what it's worth, this is just the first drive of six (I'm in the process of encrypting my RAID-Z2 pool in-place) so the DRYest-configuration solution is optimal but at this point I'll take what I can get. Because, while we're at it... I'm not very proud to add, don't use sudo while moving around /etc/group. I'm currently travelling and more or less only have this machine to work with. As I haven't memorized any systemd boot flags, some time later I finally found a way to get back up and running by setting "init=/bin/bash"... So, really, don't use sudo for /etc/{passwd,shadow,group,gshadow}. cheers! mar77i

[arch-general] archlinux samba provision error

hello Marc thanks for your help there are only the two mount points as shown in my fstab file, everything is mounted under root except for the home directory. i carried out the test on the os_requirements page to test the filesystem, the test returned outputs as shown on the page, there were no "Operation not supported" errors so i assume the kernel is configured correctly and the filesystem is mounted with the correct options. [arch-general] 3.15 kernel breaking X ?

Hey there, i just installed Arch on a x61s thinkpad using xf86-video-intel of course but it seems Cinnamon starts and gives a black unresponsive screen while booting and trying on linux-lts works absolutely fine.. Anyone has any idea ? Thanks!

[arch-general] Can't SSH into Arch VM until login screen is viewed

I have a weird issue I’m trying to figure out with Arch and SystemD, and I wonder if anyone here has run into this issue: I’m running ArchLinux as a Xen VM. Every time I reboot the system, I can no longer ping it or access it via SSH. However, if I go into the XenCenter UI and click the “Console” tab to view the VM’s login screen, all of a sudden SSH and ping works again. It’s as if systemd is waiting for the login screen to be viewed before it allows SSH to work. Is this some kind of systemd socket-activated functionality related to the getty service? How can I prevent this so that I can log in via SSH after reboot without having to run the XenCenter UI? Thanks, Ben Booth
