[arch-general] usbmuxd with systemd

Hello to All, I have a question relating to the new usbmuxd in the testing repo. Actually I have been bothered for months by the fact that udev failed to start usbmuxd automatically after plugging my iphone into lattop since I switched to systemd. In order to work it around, I did some trials to compare the configuration of my laptop, which running archlinux, with another desktop of Fedora 16 in which usbmuxd can be started automatically with systemd as service manager. From the files "85-usbmuxd.rules" and systemd services, especially the ones related to udev, started on both machines, I can not find any difference but the results of connecting iphone to each are completely different. After today's update, the usbmuxd in my laptop worked automatically again and I noticed a new file called "usbmuxd.service" in the package, which definitely has something to do with systemd. My question is why this file is necessary in archlinux. This does not make sense to me because I can not find such thing in Fedora 16 that still work fine with my iphone. Best regards, Zhengyu Xu

[arch-general] Playback sequence in Amarok-2.5.0-2 gone crazy

Hi, I just updated my system and amarok moved from 2.5.0-2 to 2.5.0-5. The net upgrade size was surprizing at -50 MB for this single package. Now, I am observing that the playback is completely illogical. I queued some tracks and amarok does not seem to follow any kind of queue. It plays songs at random, while still displaying the queued songs. In even normal playback (random tracks is the one enabled on my config), the track being played has no relation to the track being displayed. The currently played track does not even appear in three to four positions in even backward of previous track. The only time the song being displayed is the one being played is when I manually start the song. After that, too many times, the playlist advances in display, but that same song keeps playing over and over again. I tried installing 2.5.0-2 back, but it would not play due to it requiring libavformat.so.53 which is now on my computer at 54 version and similar other files. in the install boot loader step I noticed speakup was not mentioned in any of the append lines for btrfs when the configuration file was put into the editor. [arch-general] systemd script at boot?

Hi, Can systemd run a bash script at/after boot without having to install initscripts-systemd for compatibility with rc.local? I assume initscripts-systemd will be depreciated eventually so wonder if there is a native way to do this, or if this is the workaround for now. Thanks, jsteel

Hello. I've read all the arguments of Tom and Ionut. Here is my own $0.02 on it. When I started using archlinux back in end of 2008, the winning point was this file. A centralized one where you can set up a lot of single options. It is *far* simpler to edit /etc/rc.conf to load daemons or modules than editing 2 or 3 files. "Killing" /etc/rc.conf can't be do so soon. Or you'll see a lot of old users moving their on other distributions. For me it will be a one way ticket to fedora. And I *do hate* this idea. But developpers must know better than users what is the best for the distro. Killing /etc/rc.conf ? Why not. But for me, it is more KISS oriented than /etc/locale.conf, /etc/vconsole.conf, /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf files. As I said, it is my $0.02. Hello All, Just for the sake of archives, I had noted a few days ago, that systemd won't pick up my home partition after an unclean shutdown. The message is available at http://www.mail-archive.com/arch-general@archlinux.org/msg28445.html However, a later and unrelated discussion revealed the problem(I hope so, am no longer on systemd nor am I going to try a forced shutdown), that btrfsck does not honour traditional fsck methods. The thread is here http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.arch.general/43354 When systemd refused to mount my home partition, it was indeed on btrfs and I could not debug it easily. Taking the advise from the thread, I have set the fsck parameter in fstab to 0, though I am not back on systemd. -- Regards Shridhar

Hey guys… I haven’t seen so far any .service file to allow minbif to be executed with systemd scheme rather than initscripts. This is a solution I tried myself and seems to work so I decided to share. It consists of the .service file for systemd and a .conf file for tmpfiles.d so that /run/minbif is always available with the correct ownership. minbif.service: http://pastebin.com/htxMGJk3 minbif.conf: http://pastebin.com/BuYxXRHr Well, it’s very simple but I think it would be nice if minbif package provided it by itself. [arch-general] gimp 2.8 - How to change gtk controls back to normal?

Guys, Working with gimp 2.8, all of the slider controls are now these awkward highlighted regions instead of being normal sliders. How can I change the interface to get the normal gtk controls back. Here is what I see for all the slider controls: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/bugs/Archlinux/gtk-gimp28.jpg When you mouseover a control, you get a double-arrow and you can slide back and forth, but you can no longer click anywhere inside the widget and have it jump by '10' up or down as you could before. I use that jump by 10 all the time to adjust opacity, hue, saturation, etc. The new widgets are patently unusable in that regard. Can it be done without a gimp rebuild?
