I saw on arch-announce that xf86-video-intel now only supports KMS, and I wanted to ask: is there still a way to specify the resolution of virtual consoles, like we used to do with vga=XXX in kernel options? -- catwell

Hi, I'm updating the pacman database about once a day. For the last few days I always get this message: "too much happens:: Synchronizing package databases..." but everything works fine. I checked usr/bin/pacman, /usr/lib/libalpm.so.4 and usr/sbin/fcron using strings(1) for the text "much", but no hits. What's happening here? clemens

Hi, while I was on Fedora, whenever I opened a file using vim, the next time I open it, it used to open at the same line where I closed it. What is the setting to enable this feature ? Hello, I have a small problem with default permissions of Automounted Removable Devices. Whenever I mount it via KDE4.4's Auto-mounter. it sets all files to be owned by root. $ ls -la /media/Backup/ total 24 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 10 16:07 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Feb 10 17:30 .. drwx------ 2 root root 16384 Feb 10 16:07 lost+found I know KDE does not mount anything, it asks HAL. nothing is in /etc/fstab but in /etc/mtab and in /proc/mount I got $ cat /etc/mtab /dev/sdb1 /media/Backup ext4 rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal 0 0 $ cat /etc/proc /dev/sdb1 /media/Backup ext4 rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0 This means I can't write/modify anything as a normal user. mounting manually every-time I need to transfer few files is annoying.HAL mounts drives by default only for root user. [1] hal 0.5.14-1 [2] qt 4.6.1-1 [3] kernel26 2.6.32.8-1 I was wondering how to change this behavior and so by default normal users could read-write into auto-mounted partitions. i think I am soon tired of thunderbird 3.. I could revert to vers 2 but why is the newer vers slow, laggy, semi-stallish? has anyone else a funky thunderbird vers 3? any switch values to cause it to work quicker? alternatively, what is your favoured mail news client for POP3, IMAP, Syndicates, news groups NNTP, all in one? I want a better program. andrew

[arch-general] new mkinitcpio / harmless error message at boot

After doing a pacman -Syu and installed the mkinitcpio 0.6 , I'm getting an error insmoding padlock-sha just after I enter the root device luks encryption passphrase. I'm assuming there is an easy solution to this. Any idea?
