[aur-general] ttf-google-webfonts{,-distilled,-git,-hg} mess

I am the current maintainer of the AUR package ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4], and I'm bothered by the mess of various packages there are for Google's Web Fonts project. It's not at all KISS in its current state. There are currently four different AUR packages[1][2][3][4] that essentially supply the same files, and all four packages conflict with each other. Around August of 2012, the package named ttf-google-webfonts[1] was orphaned, and user w0ng created a GitHub repository[5] that mirrors the Mercurial repository[6] on Google Code (why?). Then, the new maintainer changed the original ttf-google-webfonts package from a VCS-type package that simply lacked "-hg" in the name to a package that pulls tarballs from w0ng's GitHub repo[5]. As you can see in the comments for ttf-google-webfonts[1], this has caused all sorts of confusion and messages about the package being out-of-date or having invalid checksums. To get around these issues, user epinephrine created the package ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] that clones w0ng's GitHub repo[5] instead of pulling tarballs from it, which significantly reduces the maintenance required on the package. Then, user Gently created a package named ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] that pulls a tarball from w0ng's GitHub repo[5] and only installs a small subset of the fonts therein. Shortly after ttf-google-webfonts[1] was changed from being a Mercurial-based package and not liking the direction that the package was taking, I reuploaded the original ttf-google-webfonts package as ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] for people that simply wanted the old package back that uses the actual Google Web Fonts repository to download the files. To clean up this mess, I propose that ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] and ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] be deleted outright, for what should be obvious reasons. I also propose that ttf-google-webfonts[1] be deleted because of how frequently the Web Fonts project is updated and because the project lacks version numbers. If people really feel strongly about keeping that maintenance nightmare, then let them have it, but I really don't see what advantage it provides over the original ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] other than one less makedepends. I apologize for the huge email, but this situation really is a mess. [aur-general] Can my AUR package be reinstated?

Hi all, The TU "alad" deleted my package, firefox-clean, from the AUR. I'm assuming this is a mistake, but I can't contact alad directly because their email is hidden on their profile. At first glance, it may appear that my version of the Firefox PKGBUILD in Extra does not do anything notable, but this is not the case. My package is intended to do three things: 1. Set sensible default options that most users will want in the first place. 2. Eliminate *at compile time* code that is not web-browser related (e.g. Pocket). 3. Fix pain points for power users with small, maintainable patches. (e.g. inclusion of a restart button in the file menu) At least items 2 and 3 cannot be done with adjustments to user.js, as the deletion request claims. I don't claim that many people will want to use it, but for those who might, having a package in the AUR to use could save a considerable amount of work. Inclusion in the AUR has never been dependent on the number of users the package benefits, and so far as I can see, firefox-clean doesn't break any rules. Can I recreate the package, or can it be reinstated? Thanks! -Adam Fontenot

Hi, perhaps I'm unable to see the forest for the trees when I try to build https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/wine-rt/ . If IIUC what ToxicAvenger described by the comment from 2017-09-23 13:26 Found a workaround, thanks to the community!! Yay!!! 1 - Install lib32-ocl-icd 2.2.11-1 from AUR (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/multilib/x86_64/lib32-ocl-icd/) 2 - On terminal, type: "yaourt wine-rt" (you must have yaourt installed of course) 3 - When yaourt asks if you want to edit the PKGBUILD, choose YES 4 - Scroll down the pkgbuild until you find lib32-libcl and remove them. Delete the entries, but dont leave empty spaces on the dependencies list 5 - Save the pkgbuild and close it. 6 - Yaourt will resume the compilation. Just type YES all the way. 7 - You may have a PGP key error during install, and may need to add the key and restart the whole installation. 8 - You may have "there's no space available on device" from yaourt. Hello everyone, My name is Alad Wenter, and I would like to apply for a position as Trusted User. I’m a student in Germany, majoring in Mathematics with a focus on Algebraic Topology. Many thanks to Johannes Löthberg who is sponsoring my TU application. I’ve been using Linux since late 2013, as the EOL of Windows XP was approaching. My first steps were taken via Linux Mint, gradually moving to Debian in both Stable and Unstable variants. I have started using Arch in middle 2014, after being convinced that “I should just install Arch” on a different forum. Since then I have become an ArchWiki Bureaucrat (since May 2016) and IRC Operator (since February 2017) for the #archlinux channel on freenode. Amongst others, I helped complete the long-standing merge of the Beginners’ Guide [1], vastly extended the comparison of third-party AUR scripts on the “AUR Helper” article, [2] and improved coordination amongst users through a new #archlinux-wiki freenode channel. Dear List, As of yesterday night I can no longer `git push` anything to AUR. I have strong suspicions something changed with my account permissions. Even if the source URL is "git://" I get the same 403 message. Below demonstrates the process I'm taking. [aur-general] Removal request for romextract

I'd like to request removal for romextract. I sorta became upstream since it was easier at the time than patching and the source hadn't been touched in years, but I zapped most of my GH projects long ago so the source in the (orphaned) PKGBUILD is dead, and it's questionable whether this belonged in the AUR in the first place (being more of a collated collection of utilities with mixed/unknown licenses).
