[aur-general] Is it necessary to create a new package just for an dependency header

Hi, At the moment I'm trying to rewrite grive [1], because its maintainer did not migrate it to the new Google APIs. After reviewing the code, I decided, that maybe using the google api cpp client libraries would be a good choice since the original author of grive did implement similar things as the official google API[2] does. So I created packages for those APIs in the AUR[3]. Everything fine so far. The problem is, google is using an old version (3.7) of the simple embedded webserver mongoose[4] as backend in its current stable release[5]. I tried using the current version of mongoose, but the developers have some functions removed that google uses. So I'm stuck with using version 3.7 . Since however cmake won't build shared libraries (even with -DBUILD_SHARED=ON) of google-api-cpp-client, mongoose is already statically linked into the libgoogleapis_mongoose.a . The only problem is that one header of googleapis (mongoose_webserver.h) has the line "#include <mongoose/mongoose.h>". No problem for compilation, but when using the headers in an own project, there won't be any file at this place. The mongoose 5 package in AUR installs its header to '/usr/include/mongoose.h'. So I'm stuck with the question wether - to create a new package "mongoose3" for the header only since nothing more is needed (more dependencies) and hope for google fixing that issue with the next more current release or - just include the mongoose header in "/usr/include/mongoose3.h", patch the include in google webserver to use that file and include the license of mongoose version 3 in my google-api-cpp-client package. Personally, I'd prefer the second conclusion since AFAIK no other package needs this header and google is working on its web section on the master branch, so it probably won't be needed anymore in near future. But I'm not sure, so it would be nice to have your opinion on that. Hi, I am looking to package rtai, which was already packaged some years ago. I want to make it easily updatable, and I have a problem. RTAI is a kernel patch and some other stuff. I am now trying to obtain the linux config for an specific arch kernel. I was trying to extract it from packages.git, but it's a monstrous repo and not a good way to obtain the needed object without downloading it all . The svn version is also quite hacky , but more affordable, I would svn log, search for the most close version bump commit and extract that config file (along with the patch). Is there any recommended method to build a linux kernel of X version without having to package the config files? Or maybe a git tree that is smaller and reasonable to clone. Cheers,

Hi, As much as I like arj, and the fond memories of installing games from floppy disks as a kid, the package in its current form has some problems: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/44411 https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/44488 As noted by Christian Rebischke and Remi Gacogne in these bug reports, arj has several vulnerability issues and is not likely to be fixed by upstream anytime soon. This is a huge benefit to anyone depending on gitorious.org as repositories will remain available at the same location. Cloning and fetching will continue to work as well. Projects you may depend on will stay around even if it isn't moved to GitLab. In order to build the archive we need to make Gitorious.org read-only prior to the shutdown date. This ensures that no new data is coming in while we are migrating. Pushing changes and creating new repositories will therefore stop working from the 15th of May, 2015. Hello, This is my official application to become a Trusted User, as Jelle decided to sponsor me So, a little info about me. My name is Johannes Löthberg, I’m currently 19 years old, at the end of the last year of my Gymnasium education, and I live in Stockholm, Sweden. I sometimes do some light programming, in either C or Python[1][2], I like to do server and network administration. Currently I am an Arch Linux IRC operator, occasionally take a stroll through the Arch bug-tracker, and have sent in small number of patches to makpkg/pacman[3][4], and maintain a couple of packages in the AUR. Some packages I would like to maintain in [community] are, among others, np1-mps[5], mps-youtube[6], spambayes[7], irker[8], and rhash[#]. Some of the orphans in [community] I’d like to adopt are ncmpcpp, nss-pam-ldapd, and python{,2}-msgpack, and possibly Apache Directory Studio if I can get it packaged sanely. Additionally, I’d also like to help maintain some of the Haskell packages.
