Hi folks FOSDEM 2020 will be on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of February, 2020. https://fosdem.org/2020/ At Arch Conf, we discussed having a hackathon either before or after FOSDEM. [arch-general] Gnome-keyring + Seahorse 3.34.0 are breaking Mate logout / shutdown.

Hello. I noticed today that gnome-keyring with seahorse 3.34.0 broke Mate-desktop logout / shutdown process. When I wanted to shutdown my computer, I got a dialog box telling me that "at-spi-bus-launcher" was not answering, asking me if I wanted to wait or to kill the process. I had to switch to another tty and reboot by hand using a sudo reboot command :( I tried downgraded recently upgraded package and the one that reverts the bug was gnome-keyring going back to 3.31.91 version :( I opened a bug on archlinux bugtracker: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/63995 Do you have this bug too? Hello, Open Invention Network (OIN) is a patent non-aggression community that supports freedom of action in Linux as a key element of open source software. I've seen that the OIN includes several different distributions (Gentoo, Ubuntu derivatives etc). Would ArchLinux benefit from inclusion in this set? kmail crashes when selecting an mail item containing an attachment. It seems to happen specially when it's a PDF attachment, I have not tested all types of attached files. gdb backtraces up to libZXingCore.so. Downgrading zxing-cpp from 1.0.7 to 1.0.6 resolves the issue. For information. [arch-general] 2x 1440p displays not working on thunderbold dock anymore

For a few days or so I can't get them to work anymore. Usually I disable my Notebooks internal screen and enable the 2 1440p displays like this: ``` xrandr --output DP1-1 --mode 2560x1440 --refresh 144 xrandr --output eDP --off xrandr --output DP1-2 --mode 2560x1440 --refresh 144 --right-of DP1-1 ``` This used to work quite nicely. No idea if the refresh rate actually worked. I have no way to test that but the resolution sure did. Now when I do this I get this error: ``` xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed ``` I can only drive both displays at 1920x1080. When I increase the resolution to 2560x1440 I get this error and the higher resolution can't be set. I don't know why this doesn't work anymore. Could it be a driver issue? [arch-general] High lag in graphical applications

Hello everyone, I've got some serious lag in using graphical applications since Sunday. I was able to narrow it down quite a bit, but I can't find a solution. I'm using a ThinkPad P50s with Intel HD 520 and NVIDIA Quadro M500M graphics (but, AFAIK, only the Intel Graphics are used) with X11 and i3. Since Sunday, when using applications like thunar, xfce-terminal, firefox, thunderbird, ... every interaction (starting, clicking a menu, a menu item, sometimes even hovering) caused the whole GUI to freeze from ~5 secs to up to 30 secs (thunar seemed to be the worst, with folders opening in no less than 30 secs). However, scrolling lists, webpages, typing text, using terminal applications... worked with no lag. I ran multiple system updates every day, ensuring that my system was up-to-date, nothing helped. I tried switching to KDE then, noticing that while the old applications still caused the same lag, all KDE-Applications (KDE file manager etc.) worked with no lag. When switching from X11 to Wayland with KDE (or replacing i3 with sway), even the old applications (thunar, xfce-terminal, firefox, thunderbird, ...) work with nearly no lag. However, sometimes GUI interactions in thunderbird or firefox still cause high lag. When using XFCE, though, I couldn't find any noticeable lag. Hello, I've updated Gnome just now. 3.34 should have the new "app folders" feature by just dragging application icons onto each other. This doesn't work for me. Is there some build error on Arch? Why is this feature missing? Thanks in advance Manuel

Hello, Recently logwatch package was updated. The cron file (from cron.daily) was removed and replaced with systemd.timer. But logwatch.timer is not activated automatically, which means the users who use logwatch will stop getting daily "auditing" emails and may not realize this for some days that emails from logwatch have stopped coming. This requires manual intervention to activate logwatch.timer. Since keeping an eye on logs is very important thing to do, this should be put as NEWS item. (in my opinion). Additionally, current logwatch.service calls "/usr/sbin/logwatch" alone. Which means by default it sends output to systemd journal. (whereas cron based timer used to send an email to root which could be an alias to real email address) To preserve the existing behaviour, the ExecStart line should be changed to ExecStart=/usr/bin/logwatch --output mail" Even if this is not made a news item, this email is also sent to alert those users who use logwatch that they need to take following actions: 1) pacman -Syu 2) cat /usr/lib/systemd/system/logwatch.service.d/local.conf [Service] ExecStart= ExecStart=/usr/bin/logwatch --output mail 3) systemctl daemon-reload 4) systemctl --now enable logwatch.timer Regards, Amish.
