[arch-general] Problem loading a site in midori

Hi all, I just recently decided to try midori again and I'm impressed in how much its improved in such a short amount of time. One problem I am having is loading my university's website. http://oasis.curtin.edu.au/ Looks like there is some weird kind of redirecting going on there but not sure if that is causing the problem. Loads fine in firefox (and other browser's I've tried) but not midori. There doesn't seem to be an option for midori to output any verbose or debug messages so I'm not too sure where to look for the problem. Another thing I noticed which may or may not be related, is the "speed dial" feature. It worked fine when I first installed midori but now it just shows a blank page exactly like my university's website. Any suggestions? ~ Ty

[arch-general] dcopserver problem

Hi list, Last few days or so of weeks having huge problems with kde4 after the last upgrade. Apps just hang, clicking on the toolbar > no reponse for eons. messages were around kbuildsycoca: WARNING's...... I looked on the forums/net and they seemed to indicate that typing dcopserver_shutdown, followed by kdeinit would fix the problem, which it sort of does temporarily. I wondered what could be going on and how to fix it permanantly. Any helip appreciated. Richard

[arch-general] leafnode-svn and zoneminder

I'm having two seperate issues here, one is simply a question or request for an AUR, but the other is dependancy hell and I can't resolv without removing some components. For several reasons I'd like to try leafnode 2 (beta), they have a git repo which should be easy enough - But I'd like to make a pkg out of THAT so it can be removed in future. Anybody know of a repo or a template for making a arch package out of a svn/git repo? zoneminder is kind of a security application, it allows you to monitor webcam over the net or record pictures/video. If I try to install the package it says it requires mmpeg-svn and a few others. mmpeg-svn also requires x264-git, which will remove x264, mmpeg (reg), and vlc. Vlc has no package that seems to depend on mmpeg-svn so if I remove it I get rid of my favorite video player. I'd appreciate the help getting fustrated on the second Geo -- "'Bill Gates can't guarantee Windows, so how in the HELL can you guarantee our safety!' --John Crichton (Farscape)"

[arch-general] SBCL orphaned for i686?

Hi, I'm part of the Paktahn development team; Paktahn is a yaourt-like frontend to Arch package management written in Common Lisp. At the moment SBCL is our main deployment Lisp, and we depend on the 1.0.32 release of SBCL because this release includes a critical patch. We have noticed that SBCL i686 in extra is now marked as "orphaned". If this is true, what are the implications of it? Will SBCL for i686 move to AUR/Community? Hi, ever since ff3 turned firefox into unusable, i'm on the quest to find a usable browser. Chromium was quite decent for a while (after fixing the dbus dependency) despite it deadlocks when you mouse-move tabs (fortunately i dont do that anyway), but recently it started timing out on every second request. The answer from google was: deactivate your windows firewall, so well.. back to searching a browser. Basicly each and every firefox clone/fork/based browser has the same issues as firefox (100% disk i/o all the time even when idle), so those don't work. webkit based browsers can't render half of the internet properly. i wonder if somone cloned chromiums webkit thing and made a brwoser of it? uzbl is quite decent, i wish they'd use chromes rendering. opera would be awesome if it didn't have billions of popups and their "Upgrade to opera10" popup really made me uninstall opera. any options left? -- Arvid Asgaard Technologies

[arch-general] Single Person ISP?

So recently Verizon has stopped letting me do free tethering and I've been looking for a replacement. Apparently all of the free ISPs I can find all require that you use their shitty Windows program to connect, so I decided, "I have a phone line, a modem and an internet connection, maybe I can make my own ISP". Basically, I want to take a computer with a dialup modem and an ethernet connection to a cable modem and make it so whenever someone calls, the computer picks up and acts like an ISP (requests username/password, then forwards all requests to the cable modem). Obviously, it wouldn't be that great (added latency, phone line won't work while it's active), but it's at least theoretically possible. I'm just wondering if there's software designed to do it. -Brendan Long

Guys, I cannibalized a cool dark blue gradient kdm/xdm greeter theme for Arch from kubuntu (it's GPL). Works great. Just unzip the file (it has full path information to /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes). Then I just used kde systemsettings -> System -> login manager -> themes to select it and then log out and you should have it looking at you.
