Due to real estate limitations preventing my access to my main Arch box, and a lack of time with a new job, I'm no longer able to properly maintain them. If anyone wants to pick up any of these packages, please be my guest. [arch-general] Advice on bootstrapping Arch onto a new architecture?

Hello, Not sure if I am posting it to the right place, but this seems to be the mailing list to ask. I tried to send it to arch-dev-public list but was redirected by the system to this list. I am about to start working as an intern at CIP United, a company focusing on MIPS chips, and I will be bootstrapping Arch Linux onto the MIPS64r6 architecture, in a fashion similar to Arch Linux ARM. I have checked the Arch Linux MIPS project, but it seems to be inactive for years now. I have checked ArchWiki's DeveloperWiki section, but it seems to lack guidelines or suggestions on bootstrapping Arch onto a new architecture. Therefore I have a few questions: - Intuitively, I think I should cross-compile the packages of the "core" section (sans a few x64-specific packages) and build a bootable rootfs, but I was having some trouble finding how should I set makepkg to cross-compile. Do I just set up an Arch developer environment as usual, but substitute the toolchain with the cross ones? - Does adding a new architecture require modifications to the pacman source code? Or pacman itself should support new architectures? I have also tried looking at pacman source code, and it seems to not have hard-coded list of architectures, but I am not 100% sure about this (if I'll have to modify the source code of pacman, I will be emailing the pacman-dev mailing list regarding their policies on patches etc.). [arch-general] How to cross-pacstrap for other architecture

Hi folks, I was wondering if it is possible to cross-pacstrap an Arch installation for a different architecture. In my case I wanted to prepare a boot medium for a Raspberry Pi 4 on my x86_64 machine. Why cross-pacstrap? The Arch Linux Arm homepage unfortunately does not provide any information about the software packages that the prepared installation archives contain and I'd like to install my Raspi from scratch. But a real cross-build is needless as the packages are all available in the various repos. I've tried running 'pacstrap -C pacman.aarch64.conf /mnt base' where pacman.aarch64.conf is extracted from the Arch Linux Arm installation archive but after the packages are extracted, pacman tries to run something inside the installation environment which fails due to the mismatch in architectures. Any ideas regarding how to cross-pacstrap? Thanks, Uwe

[arch-general] Autocorrect Problem in Arch_Linux Versions of Libreoffice

Dear Friends I am an Arch_Linux user. I am having problems with autocorrect not working on both the fresh and still versions of Libreoffice available from Arch_Linux repositories. I tried it on both libreoffice-fresh-7.1.2-3 and libreoffice-still-7.0.5-3from the Arch_Linux repositories. Then, as a trial I installed the snap version of Libreoffice libreoffice 7.1.2.2 from Canonical. Here, autocorrect is working fine. And this was the experience with the earlier versions from Arch_Linux repositories too. I reported it earlier on Libreoffice Mailing List. That time too the snap version solved my problem. This time I am posting it to both arch-general and global libreoffice mailing list. Can any of you help me about why the same problem is repeating in consecutive Arch_Linux versions, while the snap version was working correctly? Is there some setting that I have to customize in Arch_Linux? With Regards dipankar das

I was expecting for makepkg nosuchoption to fail. And complain. Instead, it succeeds. The package seem to get built. The package involved is brscan4, from the AUR. All required files were already ownloaded, and in place. It's a desktop PC having UEFI firmware, with CSM disabled, secure boot disabled and fast boot off. The same result is obtained while booting from an internal DVD drive and from a USB stick. Noise and lights from the devices suggest that the booting process is completing without updating the display; that's just a guess however. I could boot from 202011 on DVD, and from 201907 from a USB stick. It may be host dependent; reporting FYI, if it could ever be reproduced and eventually fixed. Regards.

Hello, I see that many packages from official repositories have "appstream-glib" (or the provided "appdata-tools") in the makedepends array, instead of checkdepends. In my experience, this package is needed for "/usr/bin/appstream-util" binary to validate appstream files, which only happens when testing in the check() function. do the elvi's need rewriting? I installed the package according to wiki directions the way I usually install it and am getting on the duckduckgo elvi line 488 file not found error when I give duckduckgo a search term.

The above is with ldns 1.7.1-2. To the best of my knowledge, the same command just aborts, without a core dump, with the old Debian ldnsutils 1.7.0-4. -- u34
