[arch-general] Jacman. Problem installing packages (don't panic)

Jacman hasn't worked properly, as regards installing packages since I installed don't panic. Saying that I have been able to install the odd single package, that has no deps, but as of today, even installing single packages (alsaplayer as an example) fails. Jacman opens ok, and I click on "Install Packages", and that's ok, but when I select a package to install, and click on "Install", a window, like a terminal (CLI) (dialog window) opens. As soon as this window opens, the CPU hits 100%. The output in this console says: resolving dependencies looking for inter-conflicts and in red proceed with installation? [Y/n] The bottom of the console window has "Done", "Yes", and "No" boxes, but none are highlighted. As I've said, on the odd occasion I have been able to install a single package, and in this case the Yes, and No boxes have been highlighted, and the Done box is highlighted when the package is installed. Before I post a bug report for Jacman, has anyone any suggestions? Nigel.

[arch-general] Scanner only works as root

Hello, I have an HP Photosmart C3180 all-in-one (printer/scanner/copier). Installed cups, hplip, sane. Printing works. Scanning, however, only works as root, otherwise xsane says that there are no devices. But if I chmod 777 -R /dev/bus/usb/* it works for my current user; therefore I deduce it is a permission problem. This looks like an udev problem, however my udev knowledge is next to null. What steps could I take to solve this problem? I would like to get rid of this ugly hack. Hey everyone, At work we're moving over to using Amazon EC2 and since we use arch for development, I've created arch images for everyone to be able to benefit from. Each one is labelled based on the date it was created. They are bare bones. The two ami names are 32bit: ami-3132d758 64bit: ami-903edbf9 Have fun with them! Jason

I've commented on most of the bugs with the actions I took with regards to the pacman mirrorlist, but there are others that may need to take action as well. 9439 sticks out as rather big as it is two of our mirrors in the Netherlands, so I'd appreciate any feedback on that one. Thanks a lot to Gerhard Brauer for looking into all our mirrors and finding those that are out of date or unreachable. -Dan

Hello, I'm trying to make a certain applet (which is inside an internal company information system so unfortunately I can't provide a link) working on x86_64. I tried libgcjwebplugin from gcc-gcj and it starts loading the applet but then it prints the following error to stdout (and the applet doesn't work): java.io.FileNotFoundException: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-gcj-1.5.0.0/jre/lib/security/cacerts (No such file or directory) I think that this is quite weird, I thought that there would be a problem that the applet uses some Java features that aren't yet implemented in gcj/gnu classpath, but this seems to say that it just looks for some certificates in a really strange place - which could be a bug of gcj or a bug in the way how it's packaged in ArchLinux, I have no idea what is the case here. But anyway if I do "pacman -Ql gcc-gcj" the paths look very different from this one. If i try "locate cacerts" I get /opt/java/jre/lib/security/cacerts which of course belongs to jre package. So, does anyone have a clue if this might have some solution? I also attached the whole stacktrace if that could help. -- Cheers, Ondřej

[arch-general] Java applets in Arch64

Hello, I need to be able to use java applets on my Arch64 box. From what I found on the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch64_FAQ) it should work out of the box in Konqueror but unfortunately it isn't the case for me. I tried the following two pages containing applets, neither seems to work. http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/deployment/applet/getStarted.html http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/ I do have the java packages (both jre and jdk), I have java enabled in Konqueror, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do something else. Truth to be told the best solution would be to have applets working in Firefox since since I need them working in an intranet web application that is not exactly 100% compatible with Konqueror, I'm afraid. Is there a working solution for Firefox? -- Cheers, Ondřej

[arch-general] Problem Reporting Question

Fellow Arch Enthusiasts, I noticed a problem with the ruby-python package in aur/community and added a comment to it. But, then I started wondering if I should have have flagged it as out of date or filed a bug instead. So, I thought I'd ask for future reference. The package isn't exactly out of date. It's built against the current version of the available sources according to the project's web site, although the sources don't appear to have been updated since 2005. The postgres.so library file included in the ruby-postgres binary package is linked against libpq.so.4. The current postgresql-libs package contains libpq.so.5, so the package just needs to be rebuilt to link against the current libs. Also, I got an error trying to download the source tarball from the source URL in the PKGBUILD file. The source tarball is available via the package's main website. Does Arch have a utility similar to Gentoo's revdep-rebuild utility that scans all the libraries/binaries on the system for missing dependencies? Hi there, I'm the owner of the domain www.archlinux.eu. I registered this domain in the sunrise period of dot-eu to avoid commercial usage or something else. Actually there is a redirection to archlinux.org. If the archlinux project is interested in this domain I'd like to spend it to the project. But if you think it is a good contribution to give my part back to the project I'm also willing to hold the domain anymore on my costs. If there is absolutely no interest in it, I'll give it free.
