[aur-general] Package naming where sources are not official

Hi all, I adopted https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/trayfreq/ a while ago to nurture it back into health after seeing that it was trying to use outdated files in /proc/ amongst other fatal bugs. The owners haven't updated their sourceforge in a while (five years), so decided to have a hack at rewriting it myself to work with modern installations. That's enough background, it's mostly working now, but the PKGBUILD is pointing to my source code. Question: Should I have the aur package renamed to account for the fact it's not using the 'true', 'official' sources even though those haven't worked for years? Hi, I am the packager of aspcud and aspcud-svn, an important dependency solver for the OPAM OCaml package manager. Two dependencies, clasp and gringo, have been already packaged in AUR, but are out of date, and I can't reach the current packager (Mails get unanswered). I'm just starting to dip my toes in the mono waters. Slightly prompted by my current situation at work. In particular I'm interested in F#, but I'm finding the whole situation around mono/monodevelop + F# a bit confusing. 1. There are indications online that mono ships with F# [^1][^2]. But the mono package in Arch doesn't include F#. Looking at the sources used to build the mono package there is no F# in sight. Was it ever there? 2. The package on AUR[^3] for fsharp is rather outdated. Not such a big problem, the building received a lot of TLC so the package is extremely simple to bring up-to-date. 3. Is there an F# add-in for monodevelop? There seems to have been one back in 2010, but it's not distributed any more, [^4]. However, other places say there is an add-in available, [^5] (however, downloading fails). I'm using a .AURINFO file for https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/stormlib/ as the pkgname is doing some unusual shell expansion to lowercase $_pkgname (I couldn't upload it otherwise), but i see the source field is not actually used, despite being present in the file. source = http://www.zezula.net/download/stormlib-9.00.zip I thought they were in use now. Hello, Please could the following package be removed: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mist-icon-theme-xfce/ I created it as an easy way to add missing icons to Xfce. All it did was to add some extra icons to /usr/share/icons/Mist The thing is, it doesn't make sense to add the missing icons to the Mist Icon Theme because, for the vast majority of icons, Mist references the GNOME icon theme. Hi, I maintain vagrant package in AUR. I believe vagrant is a very useful tool for ArchLinux users. I am happy to continue maintaining it in AUR; however, for the good of the community, it would be great if one of you TUs could move vagrant into [community] as soon as possible so it could get wider exposure. It currently has ~147 votes. Releases are infrequent, so it has been very easy to maintain overall. The mingw64 toolchain supports building for both 32 and 64-bit Windows, and is included in the official repositories. I don't think there's much reason to keep around the mingw32 packages as it's more broken than mingw64 across the board and simply not well maintained. Is anyone opposed to removing these?

Hi, I currently maintain the netbeans-beta package in the AUR. I was wondering, since netbeans was updated to 8.0 today (not yet in the official repositories), whether I should leave it at the latest development release (rc1) or upgrade to stable. Of course if/when 9.0 beta is released I will upgrade to that, but I don't know what the package should be in the meanwhile. Are there any official guidelines about this? The other two packages are out of date and can be updated easily. Also, please disown opensonic[4]. It does not build against recent libpng and needs a fix. I tried to contact the maintainer luceo (2014-02-13), but received no response. Apparently he disappeared from the internet by the end of 2012. Please excuse me if this isn't the right list for this (I feel confident it is), but is there any reason why is it that something that's as reasonably update- and maintenance-free as http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sl not in community yet? It's got over three hundred votes; is there a reason for it staying out of community? I can understand the viewpoint of it being such a small package that it's not worth the time and space on mirrors, but still? Hi, I'd like to update my package dnds-git[1] on the AUR, but when I submit the new version, the web interface says: Error - The AUR does not support split packages! Thing is: I don't have any pkgbase clause in my new PKGBUILD, but there is one in the already uploaded PKGBUILD. I don't really remember how or why I put this clause there, but I definitely want it gone now. Would deleting the package do the job, so I can upload it again ? Thank you. I seem to find myself in a bind. I made an account to subscribe to comments on a broken driver package so I could know when I could install the driver and switch back to arch. That time has long passed, but the package gets many comments. I cannot unsubscribe because I do not know my username. I assumed that aur operated like most websites and the email would suffice, so I'm sure I chose something dumb for my username. Hey guys, I'm the maintainer of the phpunit[1] package and I've talked about my idea with Dylan Ferris, maintainer of the php-composer[2] package. The idea is that we should find a standard place for PHAR's which are installed by pacman instead of PEAR. Of course it's obvious that we should omit the ".phar" part and put it in /usr/bin, but there are two problems with it. First, if open_basedir is used in php.ini, it has to contain /usr/bin. The other problem is that IDE's won't see them that way and cannot be used as external libraries (which is mostly fine with composer, but absolutely not with phpunit). So to solve this problem, I suggest to put these packages to /usr/share/webapps/phar or /usr/share/php with the .phar extension so the IDE's could use them and symlink them to /usr/bin without the extension so they could be invoked from command line as any other program. The default open_basedir in the php package is "/srv/http/:/home/:/tmp/:/usr/share/pear/:/usr/share/webapps/", so the former path would be more convenient, but the latter would be more elegant in my opinion, as PEAR packages are in /usr/share/pear/. Of course it would be nice to include that path in the default open_basedir. What do you think? Massimiliano Torromeo and/or Jonathan Steel: Just following up to your previous posts below. Note that for vagrant, you really should use vagrant-installers, rather than using gems/bundler directly for it, if you're going to create a package. Maybe the right way is to add support to vagrant-installers for PKGBUILDs. For ceph, it's a pretty typical conf/make/install. A lot of customization/flexibility should be left for the user in the ceph case, and adding a wiki page would be a good idea as well. Ceph stable releases are approx. every 3 months, so it is predictable and relatively low-maintenance, whereas Vagrant has more bursty releases. If you take ceph, you will probably find it useful to adopt ceph-git in AUR as well. Hello, the "Superior Lisp Interaction Mode for Emacs" is now maintained on GitHub. So my package slime-cvs [1] should be merged into slime-git [2]. slime-snapshot [3] host sources on AUR and should be removed or changed to use a GitHub snapshot. There is also emacs-slime [4], fulfilling a similar purpose. Hey guys, I've submitted this package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gush/ to AUR, but I have a major problem with it - namely it doesn't work after it's installed. The package builds a PHAR (PHP archive, kinda like a binary) and installs it to /usr/share/webapps/bin/gush.phar which /usr/bin/gush is symlinked to. When I run gush.phar in the ${pkgdir}/usr/share/webapps/bin/gush.phar, it works fine, but if I run makepkg && pacman -U *.tar.xz && gush it throws this error: http://bpaste.net/show/184744/ - it seems the phar is corrupted after uncompressing the xz archive. I have no idea if it's because of my own incompetency, a bug in makepkg, a bug in bsdtar or a bug in pacman, but it seems that is should be one of the above. Hi, I am the maintainer of the cndrvcups-lb package. First, I apologise for breaking the thread but i had aur-general mailing options set to digest, so can't reply in thread (changed to single now). After I found out Allen Choong had uploaded the package canon-ufr and this provided the binary counterpart of my cndrvcups-lb (builds from source ) I contacted him and we discussed what name to use for both packages to make it easier for users to see they were alternatives. If you look into the source files, you'll see several things : the downloaded file is called Linux_UFRII_PrinterDriver_Vxyz_uk_EN.tar.gz (xyz = version number) Inside that file are canon supplied deb & rpm binaries. they use names like cndrvcups-common-foo and cndrvcups-ufr2-foo In the sources folder you'll find cndrvcups-common-foo and cndrvcups-lb-foo . When i started work on this package in 2012 there were already several (older) packages for these printers using cndrvcups in the name, so it seemed logical to stick to that. As my package builds from source, I decided to stay close to name canon used for the source files, not the binaries. This lead to cndrvcups-lb and cndrvcups-common-lb. (there was already another cndrvcups-common package in aur that was incompatible with my package). I suggested to Allen Choong we could choose between cndrvcups-lb / cndrvcups-lb-bin and cndrvcups-ufr2 /cndrvcups-ufr2-bin , he was ok with cndrvcups-lb . Lone_Wolf

Hello, I just discovered a tool called `q` [1] and I have done a PKGBUILD to try it. As it can be a useful to someone else, I was going to push it to AUR. But there exists already a package called `q` [2] (yeah, 26 letters are not enough for all packages) so the usual way is to call the new one otherwise regarding to its function. But in this particular case I think it worth a reflexion; Regarding to the fact that: - The package is orphan - There is no vote for the package - There is no comment on the package - The package doesn't build anymore, at least on my computer - The upstream project was named `q-lang` [3] - There is a similar AUR package (correctly) named `q-lang` [4] which provides the same software with same version. - The upstream project is announced «no longer supported» [3] and replaced by `pure` [5] which has also its own AUR package [6]. A) It is allowed to replace the existing `q` package with a completely different software? B) If yes, what is the best way to do it: - Adopt it, then push a new PKGBUILD - Ask for deletion, then push a new one. (May be useless here: no comment/vote, but still "first submitted date" field will remain) >From what I know, the only noticeable effect will be for the people who have tho existing software installed and use an AUR helper: during an update, a message can indicate that their package is more recent than the AUR one. Eventually the day when the version of the new software will be higher than the old one, the old software will be replaced by the new one. But the probability of people still using it is very low I think. Any thoughts? Dear AUR admins, Could you merge grass7-svn [1] into grass70-svn [2]? Preserving the votes please, if that is possible. BTW, I guess there were some votes with grass-geos [3] and grass-trunk [4]. Those were merged into grass64 [5] and grass70-svn [2], respectively, but there was no increase in the vote count. Is it just my memory not serving well or were the votes there but not merged? This is the version which is linked on the website. But today the author announce the version 3.3.3rc1 and uploaded it. Hi, I am the current maintainer of the AUR packages: plymouth-release https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/plymouth-release/ plymouth-git https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/plymouth-git/ plymouth-release is at version 0.8.8 on http://www.freedesktop.org/software/plymouth/releases/ and is working plymouth-git at http://cgit.freedesktop.org/cgit/plymouth/ is currently broken While investigation the plymouth-git breakage, I found source for plymouth-0.8.9 in Fedora Rawhide nightlies. 0.8.9 builds and works correctly, but as it is from the Fedora Rawhide nightlies, the source is subject to frequent changes. I am seeking suggestions of what I could/could not should/should not do with the 0.8.9 package. I could update plymouth-release to this package, but it is not an "official" release. I could temporarily replace plymouth-git with this package until git is working, but it's not really a git source. I could upload a new plymouth-rawhide package, but I don't want to spam the AUR with yet another version unnecessarily. FInally I could just do nothing and wait until the "official" update to the source on http://www.freedesktop.org/software/plymouth/releases/ Bear in mind, as the sources are from Fedora Rawhide nightlies, I have embeded the source archive in the package to prevent breakage from frequent updates. The package size including the source is 1.2MB. Of course, I would like to share this updated (as of Feb 2014) source with the Arch community, but under the circumstances, I think advice on how to proceed from the TUs is warranted. Thanks. Guys, Reviewing my AUR packages, the poppler-qt3 0.16.7-1 needs to be removed from AUR. This package was used with the old kdemod3 build from Chakra. It is no longer needed by anything. TDE provides its own version: see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Trinity So pursuant to the Arch User Repository wiki (under 6.3 Other requests), could you all review it and remove it. Hi, I'm the current maintainer of the pebble-sdk-beta[1] package. This now got final, so it should be renamed to pebble-sdk, replacing the current package[2] which doesn't build anymore. It doesn't build anymore since end of November, the beta got final on February 3rd. I mailed the maintainer (gianguido) on January 30th and never got an answer, so I'd like to overtake it, as I updated the -beta package to the final already. Not sure what's the best thing to do there -- delete -sdk and rename -sdk-beta to -sdk? Well, you sure know. If you answer, please CC me, because I do not receive mails sent to the list. [aur-general] Linux-mainline + related package cleanup

Hi, I believe that the following packages should be removed: linux-mainline-ux31e [1] -- last updated in early 2012, orphaned, only three votes. broadcom-wl-mainline [2] -- last updated in late 2012, orphaned, zero votes, source gone, and apparently doesn't build anyway. There's a third package which appears to be semi-active: linux-mainline-dellxps [3], I've asked the maintainer whether the package still has any point, as she/he has said that the linux-mainline package works fine for them, so it may be worth keeping an eye on the comments.
