I have just updated and started to maintain the python-apsw package (the current version in AUR was from Oct 2007, when the last version is from Feb 2009) This package is needed for the tribler package (bittorrent client) Please let me know if you use this library and therefore whether the package is useful. And of course, give me any suggestion for the PKGBUILD since this is my first package I submit. [aur-general] Questions from a new TU

Hi, Just let me know if there is a more appropriate place for this and sorry for all eventual noobishness. 1) Why are the "x86_64" and "i686" tags stripped out of package names? Wouldn't it make more sense to use these tags to determine the port when uploading binary packages to community? This would also be useful for uploading "any" packages (which I suppose need to be uploaded twice). 2) How can I upload both x86_64 and i686 packages from the same machine? When trying to upload an i686 package with communitypkg, it complains that it couldn't find the x86_64 package. I did change the port of tupkg but I didn't try it without communitypkg. 3) Is there any way to avoid re-uploading a package when changing the PKGBUILD if the changes have no effect on the built package (e.g. appending packages to the depends array)? Can AUR have something like a watch list. It would be useful. I find that at times I forget that I flagged a package out of date. After a long time, I finally remember it and then go and check it out again. [aur-general] namcap tag: hicolor-icon-cache-not-updated

According to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome_package_guidelines#GTK_Icon_cache packages which install icons in /usr/share/icons/hicolor should depend on hicolor-icon-theme and invoke gtk-update-icon-cache. I've made a namcap module [1] which checks for the existence of the /usr/share/icons/hicolor directory and then sees if gtk-update-icon-cache is called in the install file and if hicolor-icon-theme is in the depends array. [aur-general] uploading binary packages / makepkg.conf files

Hi, I'll be taking over Nexuiz from Swiergot and I'm working on tidying up and updating the PKGBUILD right now. (related issue: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=69617) Is there any way to build the package on the community upload server? There is a single PKGBUILD for both architectures and I have access to both x86_64 and i686 Arch systems but the binary package is about 600 MB and my ADSL upload speed is pathetic. Uploading 2 * 600 MB will take ages (at least 3.5 hours with full bandwidth saturation, which cripples other networking). I only ask because the TU checklist states "Ask Aaron for access to the x86_64 build machine if you need it (when it comes back online) " which leads me to believe that there might be build machines for both architectures. I haven't found any information about this in the wiki (AURTools Tutorial, TU Guidelines, etc). Sorry if I've missed something obvious. A related question: what's the easiest way to switch between different makepkg.conf files? I currently have CFLAGS specific to my processor in makepkg.conf and I would like to avoid changing the file every time I compile a pkg for uploading. The best solution that I can think of so far is to create a script to swap makepkg.conf files but that feels kludgy. Actually, I'll probably just submit a feature request for a "--config" option. *hopes his questions aren't embarassingly stupid* Regards, Xyne

[aur-general] Out of date orphaned packages in community

Hi, What is the current policy for out date packages in the community repo. Iirc there were ten or so such packages that fall into this zone. Now while this isnt many, there packages have no hope of being updated, unless a kindly TU takes pity on them. Could they please be moved back to the aur where they can be updated and them moved back into community once that has happened and the PKGBUILD is at it's former high quality. Thanks, Laurie

[aur-general] pkgconflict: a tool to find file conflicts when building packages

I wrote this code in anger. Hopefully, others might find it useful. There is a little story behind it. I maintain the nmh package in unsupported. I just discovered that a package from extra provides /usr/bin/dp, which is also provided by nmh. We have this nice collection of files under /var/cache/pkgtools/lists, thanks to Daenyth's very useful pkgfile tool. We ought to be able to use that collection to detect conflicts like the one I just described. Hence the birth of pkgconflict. The package Sphinx 0.9.8_rc2-1 is now out of date, and seems to be abandoned. I contacted the currently listed maintainer of the package on 3/20 without reply. I would like to continue maintenance of this package. If someone else would like to continue maintenance of the package I am fine with that as well, I just would like it to stay up to date and in good standing.

I needed to use sudo in the pkgbuild, and so far, I have never seen it used in a package. Is this OK, and/or is there away to avoid it?
