PS. to avoid discussion about webapps useless. There are (at least) - phpmyadmin - phpldapadmin - phppgadmin which have no need in multiple instances on different virtual hosts and useful even on localhost.

Listmates, Which setting in Arch prevents forwarding apps when you ssh -X in an Arch box, su and then try to start a kde app, etc.? X forwarding works just fine as a user, but when trying it su'ed to root, I get the following error: [23:29 archangel:/etc] # kwrite X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. kwrite: cannot connect to X server localhost:10.0 kdm config? Hi all! I am looking for hosting that support Arch. Most probably this will be a VPS hosting (because of price), so official Arch Linux support is required. So far the list include: http://www.slicehost.com/ http://vpslink.com/ (a subsidiary of http://www.spry.com/) http://www.vpsville.com/arch-vps (also .co.uk and .co.ca) http://www.linode.com/ http://lylix.net/ https://www.sevenl.net/ (they have donated a server for Arch, and provide a dedicated hosting with Arch too) If there is someone who has experience with these providers - I would be very thankful for information. [arch-general] Master mode and Intel 4965AGN

Hi, list, I am trying to use my wireless card to share a wired connection. I have an Intel 4965AGN card, and I am fairly confident that this should be possible; however, I've been unsuccessful after a few hours of trying and Googling. The issue seems to be that the card won't enter master mode. Trying to set it up manually with `iwconfig wlan0 mode master` results in "SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument." (As an interesting side note, I can easily put it into ad-hoc, managed, or even monitor mode this way.) Using hostapd (with the nl80211 driver) fails with the message "Failed to set interface wlan0 to master mode." According to `iw phy0 info`, the supported interface modes are IBSS, managed, and monitor. I booted up an Ubuntu 9.04 live CD and compared the output of `iw phy phy0 info` there, and indeed, AP and AP(VLAN) (I believe) were also present in the list. I've tried on Arch with both the current 2.6.30 kernel and the 2.6.31 kernel in [testing], and neither has worked. The version of iwlwifi-4965-ucode I have installed is 228.61.2.24-1. Anyone have any idea what might be wrong and how to fix it? I'll happily provide any further information that might be relevant. -Adam Lloyd

[arch-general] X server reset when I press enter (!!!)

Hi! I'm experimenting a really bad behaviour from the X server, since yesterday night's update, which involved mainly KDE. When I press ENTER, in whichever applications or DM, the X server randomly reset just as I pressed ctrl-alt-backspace! For example, I had to start this email three times, and I have to resist to press the damn key. As I said, this happens in any applications (inkscape, NetBeans, Lyx, xterm, kmail, kwrite, anything), in KDE and FluxBox. I'm running NVIDIA proprietary drivers in a twinview configuration. I'm going to do some testing to isolate better the causes, but in the meantime, does someone of you has a suggestions? Hello all! Is there any tool that would tell me all the direct or indirect dependencies of a package or set of pagkages? (Something like http://alioth.debian.org/~fjp/debtree/ but only with textual output.) Thanks, Ciprian.

Ok, I got it now. Putting radeon into MODULES in mkinitcpio.conf wasn't enough, I had to put intel_agp in there as well. Now it works this way. But there's still something to discuss: When my mkinitcpio.conf looks like this MODULES="intel_agp radeon" BINARIES="" HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata filesystems" udev uevents takes about 3700ms at boottime. But as soon as I add FILES="/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf" with a options radeon modeset=1 in the modprobe.conf, it takes only about 800ms. I guess if we get enough input from many testers, it might be ok to activate kms for radeon by default. Those guys, who have problems, might consider trying it again with this stuff I found out, maybe that solves your problems too. army

Good day everyone I have a suggestion. if you take a look at the packages in aur, most of them are always up to date, the reason that I can find is the "flag out-of-date" feature, this is very interesting because in aur you also have the possibility to propose a new PKGBUILD ( in the comments) that would set the package as up to date and usually the maintainer just have to check that everything is ok with the PKGBUILD and do copy-paste. is it possible to have something similar for core, extra and community repos? I know you can submit a bug, but at least in my case I got lazy to do that because is not a simple process, but in aur I do it frequently because you just have to press a simple button. [arch-general] Package "required by" doesn't look in AUR?

Example: http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/fetchmail/ The etrn-poke package in the AUR requires fetchmail, however the page above doesn't list that. Is the AUR not searched for packages that depend on this package or is it a bug?
