[arch-general] Setting xkb options (xkb_symbols) via hal?

Judging from my findings on the interwebs it is possible to pass options for the X11 keyboard via hal's policies. This seems very useful for system-wide keyboards settings. However, I'm having problems making them stick. [arch-general] Why both fonts.dir and fonts.scale?

Listmates, Picking through the font configuration, I have run across a curiosity, why do the font directories have both a fonts.dir file and a fonts.scale file. The page: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg_Font_Configuration suggests that you run mkfontscale and mkfontdir on each of the directories. [arch-general] Wohoo Compiz Install was a Breeze!

Listmates, I'm really impressed with Arch! After a little teething to get kde up and running, it was time to install compiz-fusion. Before the install, I copied my compiz config from my opensuse install and my emerald themes by copying ~/.config and ~/.emerald to my home directory in the Arch install. Then I proceeded with: pacman -Sy compiz-fusion-kde With a little trepidation, I then selected fusion-icon from the system menu and... Compiz-fusion started with all my setting and my emerald theme without a hicup. Fantastic!! Kudos and Great Job to whoever is building and maintaining the compiz fusion packages. Now I really have a cool archlinux desktop! A quick: ksnapshot # desktop saved as archlinux1.png # pms imagemagick imagemagick-doc # convert archlinux1.png -resize 800 archlinux1-800.png # convert archlinux1-800.png archlinux1-800.jpg # rsync archlinux1-800.jpg nirvana:/srv/www/download/screenshots/archlinux and you have your screenshot: http://nirvana.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/archlinux/archlinux1-80… Thank you to all who have help me stumble through getting to this point. Listmates, I have several additional fonts in /usr/local/share/fonts that I want configured for the system. I found /etc/fonts/fonts.conf and /etc/fonts/conf.d/51-local.conf, but I'm unsure about the placement of my <dir></dir> location in the local.conf file. Currently I have chosen: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd"> <fontconfig>  <include ignore_missing="yes">local.conf</include> <dir>/usr/local/share/fonts</dir> </fontconfig> My question is "does it matter whether the <dir> statement comes before or after the <include> and what do I need to do after I add the <dir> statement in 51-local.conf to make the system create a new font config? -- David C. Listmates, One thing I noticed when generating dovecot certs was the significant number of files in /etc/ssl/certs. What is the reason for/background of Arch's gathering of so many cert files, and is there some specific way we should make use of them? Are they just there for convenience? Hi, i recognized that there is new package in aur for opera with this informations: "This package is the official one from the [extra] repository. We have to move it because of a unclear license issue. After we have clarify this issue the package will be back in the repos or not. It should not be moved to community, because of the license." I'm a little bit surprised that a custom license is such a problem because this shows me 343 entries: find /var/abs -name PKGBUILD | \ xargs grep license | \ grep custom | grep extra | wc -l Will now all packages with custom licenses disappear from extra? Hi archpeople, I just wanted to note that the alsa module snd_seq_dummy is missing in our kernel and it would be nice to integrate this. Musicians who work with MIDI need this very often and we, from the linux-pro-audio-scene, even considered a long-time bug we searched for. greetings, Nils

[arch-general] Starting gpg-agent on X login (gdm)

After looking through my new shine Arch system I found that ssh-agent is run from /etc/gdm/Xsession, so I suppose that's where I need to make changes in order to get gpg-agent to run, right? Is there some documentation on the preferred way of doing this? Should I look into using seahorse instead of {ssh,gpg}-agent? /M
