[arch-general] Failed installation - part 2

Hello all, I retried the installation that failed last week, with the same result. But this time I found this: 3 packages were reported to be 'corrupted': gettext-0.17-3-i686.pkg.tar.gz perl-5.10.1-5-i686.pkg.tar.gz man-pages-3.24-1-1-any.pkg.tar.gz I could well have missed this last time as to see the error you have to scroll down the page instead of just hitting RETURN to continue. I tried again twice using different mirrors, same result. All this with the 2009.8 install images, and run with LC_COLLATE=C. Then I tried the new one. This time all packages downloaded without errors, but the install failed at the 'Install GRUB' stage with on tty7 the messages that neither of /boot/grub/stage1 /grub/stage1 did exist. So now I'm really lost... The only real difference between this install and all the previous ones is that this time I have to go via an http proxy. Any help will be appreciated ! -- FA O tu, che porte, correndo si ? E guerra e morte !

Thank you for a great job, Jan. I can confirm the xorg-server 1.8 works great for me! :) I'm running on [testing], i686, kernel 2.6.33.2, xf86-video-intel, touchpad(synaptics), keyboard, usb keyb/mouse hotpluging works as well, sound(intel hda) & guvc video webcam .... just upgraded and voila, works like a charm! :) Happy Easter to all of you! Marek ...well, here's an update after a deeper tryout :) *touchpad(synaptics) - issues with tapping which does not work /buttons do/ *a note for testers, one can disable !hal from rc.conf but make sure to include dbus instead(hal used to start it up) otherwise policykit fails *I have troubles with resuming from suspend/black screen/ but have to make sure if it is not a problem of kernel. *as I'm using kde, here's a problem: battery monitor is disabled and i'm not sure if cpu freq scaling under kde works(probably problem of kde?, acpi command shows correct info), also there is a dependency on hal- pacman -Rcsn hal would remove a great bunch of packages(including kde), how do I figure, whats the dep.? [arch-general] Some icons don't work anymore since update to Gnome 2.30

Hi, I've upgraded to Gnome 2.30 today, which worked quite great so far. I'm astonished by the speed such updates get into the repositories, you are doing a great job! However I've experienced a strange issue. Whenever I try to click on some of my icons on the desktop (e.g. "Computer", "Home", "Trash"), the desktop seems to get refreshed, and nothing happens. Other icons (text files, movies) work just like expected, so I don't know what the issue could be. When I start Nautilus from the menu, it works also just great, so there has to be something with the icons wrong? Can anyone reproduce/confirm this? Hello all, I wanted to do a new install today, using netinstall on an USB stick which has worked at least 5 times before, the last time less than two weeks ago. Things failed in the 'Configure System' phase, seems I didn't have an /etc under /mnt (and yes I did have a '/' partition and it was mounted on /mnt !). Do I need a new /arch/setup ? Hi, According to ldd, the heimdal package in [testing] is still linked against openssl 0.9.8. This shouldn't be the case, should it? -- Chris

Hi All I managed to get X up although the keyboard is always on US in stead of BE layout, but I think I can find that one out. I also tried to get wifi access but I cannot get the driver installed. [arch-general] RAID 1 - Grub Problem / not finding stage1 file

Hello alltogether I am desperatly trying to get raid working. Currently I have Arch installed on /dev/sda and I would like to make an RAID 1 Array out of it (using /dev/sdb). I followed the guide from the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Convert_a_single_drive_system_to_RAID) and now I am stuck when I try to install grub on my newly created raid1-drive (Chapter 3.6 in the Wiki). Everytime I do a find /grub/stage1, grub only discovers the stage1 file on /dev/sda, but not the one on my raid-drive (/dev/sdb). I have tried this normally and from within the chroot environment, with no success. When I try to install the bootloader manually via root(hd1,4) setup(hd1) grub gives the error 14: filesystem compatibility error. I have absolutly no idea, what I can do now. /dev/sdb5 is a ext2 filesystem with type "Linux Raid Autodetect", containig all the necessary files (mounting the partition and doing an ls shows the stage1 file). Any help on what I should do now is greatly appreciated Thanks Benedikt
