Python 3.11 timeline?

Anyone know if there's any timeline on when we'll see python 3.11 get released to Arch? I emailed the maintainer about this directly recently, but didn't hear anything back. I know this is a big upgrade, and lots of dependent packages are involved, so this might require some time. I just was wondering if there was any roadmap/timeline for how long that might be. How to use package from community-testing

Hi, I am running arch-linux with cyrus-imapd as mail server for several years and now cyrus-imapd appeared in community-testing. I am planning upgrade and switch from cyrus-imapd aur package to version from community-testing. What is a recommended way to test only this package? If I enable community-testing in pacman.conf, then doing pacman -Su will still pull official packages from community until I explicitly request a version from testing? Regards, Łukasz

Recommended way to use software that depend on python2

I am trying to setup ESP8266 toolchain [1] on Arch. The problem is that their SDK depends on python2. The aur package for python2 is marked as unmaintained. What can be done to prevent messages from cluttering up log files?

Hi, assuming you can't get rid of the cause of messages flooding the log file, could you prevent writing with a filter? After all, only filtering when reading would not prevent the unnecessary growth of log files. How can I troubleshoot virtualbox issues?

Hi, a self-build virtualbox 6.1.40 on old Intel Celeron hardware with a self-build 4.19-rt kernel worked even with a Windows 11 guest, while on a new Intel i3 13. gen hardware even linux 6.2.11-arch1-1 and virtualbox 7.0.8-1 from repos don't work with a Windows 10 guest. If I run "$ VirtualBox" and then try to start a Windows 10 (not 11) guest (guest additions are still 6.1.40) a small Window "Start" with a progress bar opens and nothing more happens, it stays at 20%. I need to pkill virtualbox processes to get rid of the windows, but before I can try to start it again, I need to shutdown the machine, a log out and log in doesn't work. Shutdown hangs with "A stop job is running ..." only pushing the reset button can finish shutdown, Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Alt+Del don't help. Hi, some kernels that do boot on my old UEFI computer with legacy boot enabled, don't boot on my new UEFI computer were the Intel processor graphics doesn't allow to enable legacy boot, but at least _secure boot_ is _disabled_. What can I do to get rid of the error? The kernel parameter "module.sig_enforce=1" is _never_ used. Is a tool available to check the integrity of copied files?

Hi, my google search was "does linux diff compare data using a cache". I'm trying to figure out what's going on. The first diff of 10 GiB of data copied from a SATA3 SSD to an USB 2 stick connected to an USB 3 port took around a minute, right after the copy finished. A second diff needed 3 seconds. Both returned exit status 0. It's impossible to read 10 GiB of data in 3 seconds from an USB 2 stick. Does diff use cached data instead of comparing the "real" files line by line? Google returned "diff isn't doing any caching. The OS is. If you are using Linux, you can flush the disk buffers and cache". I expected that diff ensures to compare the "real" files line by line, but seemingly diff isn't aimed to check integrity of data. Does a command exist that compares "real" files, not just cached files by default? I experience weird things with Raptor Lake hardware, especially if USB is involved and I want to check the integrity of USB transferred, saved files by using a tool, without manually clearing cached data manually.
