[arch-general] How to install archlinux using a specific parition of usb instead of the whole usb?

Hi, I try to use a specific partition of usb to install archlinux, the following is the step: Suppose the /dev/sdc is my usb: $ sudo ddrescue -f archlinux-2019.11.01-x86_64.iso /dev/sdc2 Then I reboot my computer with the grub standalone bootloader and from within the command line of grub, I do the following: Suppose the (hd2,2) is the partition which corresponding to the /dev/sdc2, then I run the following commands: grub> set root=hd2,2 grub> chainloader /EFI/boot/bootx64.efi grub> boot But, the above step failed to boot, with the error similar to this in my ming: Failed to find the loader.efi OTOH, if I dd'ed the arch iso onto the whole usb disk like the following: $ sudo ddrescue -f archlinux-2019.11.01-x86_64.iso /dev/sdc Then, it will be successfully booted into the installation menu of archlinux. So I want to know whether is is possible for me to use a specific partition of usb instead of the whole usb disk for installation archlinux? Hi, When trying to create an account on bugs.archlinux.org, I get the following error message: Completely unexpected exception: Connection could not be established with > host 127.0.0.1:10027 [Connection refused #111] > This should never happend, please inform Flyspray Developers > Have I missed a downtime announcement somewhere or is something wrong with Flyspray? Can someone explain in better detail the changes in * kmod 26-3 * mkinitcpio 27-1 * linux 5.3.8.1-1 around packaging and pacman hooks? I can see there's some reorganization of the hooks and scripts, and the kernel package no longer installing directly to /boot (which is a welcome change, the kernel is now only in /usr/lib/modules/5.3.8-arch1-1/vmlinuz) but it's not easy for me to reverse-understand what the bash scripts do exactly. I'm asking because I also use pacman hooks on the kernel and some other files in order to create my combined kernel+initramfs+cmdline UEFI executable signed for secure-boot, and it seems I'll have to adopt to a newer setup. -- damjan

Hello list, I have a script for bootstrapping Arch and I test it on the archlinux/base docker container everytime before I make a release in order to make sure everything runs fine. Yesterday, I have run the script on the container, and it started throwing an error everytime my script called "sudo". It doesn't break the functionality of sudo, so it runs the called function with root priviliges. The error is, "sudo: setrlimit(RLIMIT_CORE): Operation not permitted" The problem is not related to the script as it gives the same error on the container when I run sudo myself. I searched the wiki, the forum, and the internet but couldn't find a conclusive answer. My laptop is running the latest version of Arch and I have no issues with sudo. I have similarly updated the container to the latest version before running the script.

Hi guys. I have a Brazilian Lenovo Ideapad 330S-14IKB laptop and would like to add it to Wiki. I know there is a Lenovo 330S page, but it shows a different version. [arch-general] Silent boot with systemd and sd-encrypt initcpio hooks

Hey there, I recently switched my mkinitcpio configs over to use systemd hooks instead of the default ones. Currently my hooks like like the following: HOOKS=(base systemd autodetect modconf block keyboard sd-vconsole sd-encrypt filesystems fsck) As you can see, I have an encrypted root partition. Before switching to systemd hooks, after typing the decryption password on boot there was no additional output. Now there is always the full systemd log where it says "Starting [unit]..." and so on. Kernel parameters: rd.luks.name=[long uuid]=cryptroot rd.luks.options=timeout=20 root=/dev/ mapper/cryptroot rw quiet loglevel=3 rd.systemd.show_status=false rd.udev.log_priority=3 i915.fastboot=1 I tried rearranging the parameters like putting "quiet loglevel=3 rd.systemd.show_status=false rd.udev.log_priority=3" before anything else and even tried putting it before AND after the rd.luks.* parameters with no success. Hi all, I can't access bluetooth devices using a Lenovo G480 with arch linux installed and updated. The rfkill list command shows me the following: 0: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: ideapad_bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no I execute the command bluetoothctl, in the prompt I type devices Aand I receive the following message: No default controller available Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to fix this problem? [arch-general] Blank screen after an interval; maybe related to laptop power supply?

I turn on my laptop, sign in (Linux getty), and use the laptop for a couple minutes (no graphical applications), then the screen goes black and the machine does not appear to respond to any user input (CTRL+ALT+F2, etc.). The only recovery I have found is to hold the power button and restart. The logs show nothing. When I use the computer without the power supply plugged in, the problem doesn't manifest. I'm using a Dell Precision M 4700. Any suggestions? What should I be looking at to begin diagnosing the problem?

Hi, I have an Arch Linux laptop that hasn't been updated in a long time, mainly because it started to lock-up after a few minutes uptime, requiring a power cycle. I'm now trying to update all its packages in the hope the lock-ups have gone, and if not to have a more modern base for diagnosis. A ‘pacman -Syuw’ took a few goes but signature checking had problems, as did trying to update signatures.
