Hi, I have this pacman hook: ++++ % cat /etc/pacman.d/hooks/systemd_mkinitcpio_regenerate.hook [Trigger] Operation = Install Operation = Upgrade Type = Package Target = systemd [Action] When = PostTransaction Exec = /usr/bin/mkinitcpio -p linux ++++ It used to trigger only when upgrading the "systemd" package, for a post transaction. However now it's triggering on every system upgrade, which is not what I was expecting... Thanks, -- Javier

[arch-general] Single Drive Fresh Install (mbr/grub2) Fails to boot (can boot existing from .iso??)

All, After 7 years and 30+ installs, I thought I had seen it all. I have a new (used) laptop, that I put a fresh 1T drive in, partitioned and loaded arch. The laptop can't find the drive to boot? Huh? There is only a single drive in the laptop, but it will only boot if booting from grub hd1 (instead of hd0). The failure isn't a "grub prefix/root" problem, the problem is the laptop cannot even find grub to begin with when it is booting on it's own. The only way booting happens is to boot the installer (from USB) and then "Choose existing OS" and edit the prefix (from 0 -> 1). Which itself is wonky, because booting from USB creates the USB thumb-drive as /dev/sdb to begin with and the hard drive as /dev/sda where it should be. This is a strange laptop, it has 2 hard drive bays (HP Elite 8760w). The bios is configured to scan both (as well as USB and PXE) for boot. I can boot the install .iso without issue, install went fine, but in order to boot the new install, I have to "Boot existing OS" from the .iso menu, then 'tab' and change hd0 0 to hd1 0 (I took the existing Win10 SSD out of the same bay I put this drive in - which is also a simple mbr boot - no UEFI). Has anyone encountered something similar? There is no longer a /boot/grub/device.map file installed by grub2, but given the fact the bios isn't seeing the drive at all for boot, I don't see how mapping hd0 to hd1 would make a difference. Does anyone have a link or any idea what the issue may be? I'm happy to send whatever additional information may be required. New Class, "Getting Started with Arch Linux Package Building" The class will be held on Sunday, Dec 11th at 19:00 UTC in #archlinux-classroom on irc.freenode.net. It is taught by meskarune and halosghost. This class will give you the understanding and resources to read, edit and write your own PKGBUILDs from scratch. The class will be covering basic PKGBUILDs as well as version control systems and GPG signed software. You will also learn how to check PKGBUILDs for errors and security issues to look out for. https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2016-November/028492.… i have a few things to add to this. the message digests at the download page for the .iso file, must change to sha256 and sha512 ones, or to a sha512 one. if an upstream does not sign the files, does not have https enabled, and/or refuses to take security and privacy seriously, sha512 must be used in the PKGBUILD files. in the cases of upstreams that use md5 and/or sha1 message digests, those will be added in a second ALGOsums= line under the sha512sums= line. if they use md5 and sha1, then sha1sums must be used for the second ALGOsums= line.

TL;DR; I need a way to install arm-none-eabi-gcc on Raspberry Pi (Arch Linux ARM) using pacman or from source. Hi guys, First of all, I know that this mailing list entertains questions and information related to Arch Linux, not Arch Linux ARM. Since I have received valuable suggestions on this list before, I am going to ask my question here in the hope that someone would be able and willing to help. I couldn't find the required info on the internet. I am running Arch on my main desktop. I installed arm-none-eabi-gcc package using pacman so I can compile code for my STM32F103 board. I switched from Raspbian to ArchLinuxARM on Raspberry pi yesterday*. I have found most of the my daily usage packages in ARchLinuxARM repo, but can't find arm-none-eabi-gcc package. There's a post on ArchLinuxARM forums [1] requesting the same info, but the post didn't get any reply. Every google search tells ways to develop for Raspberry Pi on x86 computers using arm-none-eabi-gcc. I couldn't find any meaningful info about developing for ARM Cortex-Mx on Raspberry pi. Any suggestions would be apreciated. Helloes, I was wondering, if anyone knows anything regarding the current status of speps. I tried to ping him about some long-outdated packages (supercollider, pd), but haven't gotten a reply in a week. With supercollider we're currently already at 3.7.2 and with pd at 0.47. The latter will also require some fixes, because unpatched/unmodified it's unusuable in its current state (in a JACK setup). Not to be annoying, it's just that an outdating of more than 6 months is very unusual (in the case of supercollider) and I'm using them regularely. Dear list, We have a mail server with postfix and dovecot where we have mail addresses with local unix accounts (authenticated by pam) and without unix accounts (dovecot passwd-file authentication). The problem only affects those non-unix account mail addresses. (There are also completely virtual email addresses with different domains, also managed by dovecot, but still working fine, for simplicity ignored here; sorry the config is really complicated). All non-unix-account addresses are listed in a postfix table, configured in main.cf by: mailbox_transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/mailbox_transport_maps looking like this: user1 dovecot user2 dovecot All this was working fine, before yesterdays (rather big) system-upgrade. As downgrading postfix, dovecot and icu (linking) did not resolve this issue, we are very confused. As this is critical infrastructure for some people, any help is warmly appreciated. regards georg
