Hello everyone, When I run the setup keys command I get this: #journalctl --setup-keys Generating seed... Generating key pair... Generating sealing key... Failed to set file attributes: Operation not supported The new key pair has been generated. The secret sealing key has been written to the following local file. This key file is automatically updated when the sealing key is advanced. It should not be used on multiple hosts. /var/log/journal/9999999999999999999999/fss Please write down the following secret verification key. It should be stored at a safe location and should not be saved locally on disk. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The sealing key is automatically changed every 15min. The keys have been generated for host xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. I changed the secret stuff. Paranoid? It seems like it worked AFAIK. Any advice or comments welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Dennis

[arch-general] Gnome-Terminal can we update to 3.18.0.1

Hi, I know that the reason Gnome-Terminal has not been upgrade from 3.18.0 is due to us waiting for the 3.18.1 release, however there is a ridiculous bug that causes the app to have a search bar that takes up 50% of the width of the window that I have been living with for 3 weeks, and which was fixed in 3.18.0.1. I hate to pester, but the package was flagged out of date weeks ago but still hasn't been updated, and this bug is impossible to ignore, and is cringe worthy. -Britt

for the last few days I have been unable to apply updates. Hi folks- The backstory: I bought a new el-cheapo multi-function printer-scanner today and as a consequence installed sane, xsane, and kdegraphics-ksaneplugin. I did all that while logged into my usual window manager, dwm. All was fine. Then I wanted to try the kde plugin, so logged into kde desktop and was presented with what appeared to be the blue screen of death (sometimes black). Plasma seems to start fine, i.e., splash screen goes through its usual motions, then the blue/black screen appears when the desktop usually does. However, not was all as it seemed. The entire kde suite works, i.e., mouse and keyboard, and most, but not all, applications (although to access them I need to alt-F2 and run them manually.) The only thing that does not seem to work is the desktop itself. I cannot say the packages I installed today are the cause - it could be any update within the last two weeks; as noted, I rarely log into the kde desktop. My uname -a is: Linux arch 4.2.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 3 18:52:50 CEST 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux My desktop is: plasma-desktop-5.4.2-1 As you can imagine, there are no shortage of google results regarding the blue/black screen. However, there was nothing current enough or otherwise useful. [1][2][3] Here's what I've tried so far, in no particular order: 1. removed kdegraphics-ksaneplugin; 2. re-installed plasma-desktop; 3. downgraded kactivities-frameworks; 4. removed ~/.kde and /tmp/kde-dutch. Logs don't show anything of importance (as I would expect, as Xorg starts and runs properly.) Top shows kwrapper5, dbus, polkit, kdeinit5, klauncher, kded5, kactivitymanager, etc., all running. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated; If further information is needed, please let me know. Hi I'm trying to paravirtualize my archs. Therefore I've created a directory and fill it with `pacstrap -d /root/arch base` After that I've chrooted into `arch-chroot /root/arch /bin/bash` Inside I've changed the /etc/mkinitcpio.conf MODULES="9p 9pnet virtio virtio_blk virtio_pci virtio_net" HOOKS="base udev block autodetect modconf filesystems keyboard fsck" (Don't know if all the stuff is necessary) I've saved that file and run `mkinitcpio -p linux` I've exit chroot and start vm on the host system qemu-system-x86_64 -kernel "/root/arch/boot/vmlinuz-linux" \ -initrd "/root/arch/boot/initramfs-linux.img" \ -virtfs local,id=r,path=/root/arch,mount_tag=r,security_model=passthrough \ -device virtio-9p-pci,fsdev=r,mount_tag=r \ -enable-kvm \ -nographic \ -append 'root=r rw rootfstype=9p rootflags=trans=virtio console=ttyS0' As you can see it drops a recovery shell. [arch-general] Network issue with broadcom-wl-dkms

Hey there, I've used the ABS to compile a kernel with the CONFIG_AUDIT=y and CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y options enabled. Apparmor and audit work just fine, but when I tried to start a game, I failed. The following errors occur only when using the apparmor enabled kernel (independently of kernel boot parameters to enable/disable apparmor). $ lsmod | grep nvidia $ modprobe nvidia modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia not found. $ glxgears Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0". Anything that doesn't require fancy graphics works (though libreoffice and some other programs complain anyway). The configuration files are much alike (diff attached) with only apparmor and audit options changed, and a few others presumably by `make config`. I also tried to use `make nconfig` in the PKGBUILD to change them, to the same effect. By following the wiki, I eventually found this out: $ ls /lib/modules/extra* /lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-apparmor: version /lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-ARCH: bbswitch.ko.gz nvidia.ko.gz nvidia-uvm.ko.gz version $ modprobe -c > ARCH.modprobe-c # with default kernel loaded $ modprobe -c > apparmor.modprobe-c # with compiled kernel loaded $ # ^^^-- diff attached to this message The diffs of these files clearly show the apparmor kernel seems to have no nvidia support, while the compile time configuration files show no difference in this matter. Using insmod doesn't work, as those extra modules are compiled for another kernel (error "Invalid module format"). But how are they there? I couldn't find any information on EXTRA modules in the wiki, never heard about them. Seems they are compiled separately: $ pacman -Qo /lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-ARCH/* /usr/lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-ARCH/bbswitch.ko.gz pertence a bbswitch 0.8-37 /usr/lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-ARCH/nvidia.ko.gz pertence a nvidia 355.11-3 /usr/lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-ARCH/nvidia-uvm.ko.gz pertence a nvidia 355.11-3 /usr/lib/modules/extramodules-4.2-ARCH/version pertence a linux 4.2.2-1 I guess at least now I know it's not some weird compilation option I forgot about... Might as well put the compiled kernel in the AUR. I doubt nvidia is giving away source code to compile that... Is this a dead end? Or perhaps the guys with nvidia and OpenSUSE found a way? How can I get that nvidia extra module to work on ? And why is it an "extra"? Wait, now I think of it, maybe I can make this work. Maybe I can get this to work with ABS, by pointing to the correct headers to the nvidia package. I will post this now because possibly someone else knows best, and if I end up solving my own problem, at least the solution becomes available for anyone looking for it. I found the answer to 60% of my original questions regarding this problem, while writing this email, if I don't post this now I may never do. I hope you're okay with this. [arch-general] [dkms] Don't load blacklisted modules when starting dkms.service

Hello, I found that when starting the dkms service, every dkms module is loaded right after, even the ones that are blacklisted. The behavior is avoidable by adding the '-b' option to modprobe, in the dkms start script (/usr/lib/systemd/scripts/dkms), line 26. I don't see any drawback in adding this option, and the resulting behavior seems more intuitive in my option. It would also help prevent some issues as the one described here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=189032 Basically when using bumblebee and nvidia-dkms, the dkms service loads the nvidia and nvidia_uvm module after bumblebeed starts, which powers the discrete graphic card back on indefinitely. I wasn't sure if I should directly post an issue on the bugtracker, or first discuss about it here. Cheers Simon
