Hello I used the wikipage to address the problem where loop module does not load. Here is the relevant page. === Failed to set up a loop device === If you get a message "Failed to set up a loop device" when trying to create/mount a TrueCrypt volume, it may be because you updated your kernel recently without rebooting. Rebooting should fix this error. Otherwise, check if ''loop'' has been loaded as kernel module: $ lsmod | grep loop If not listed, retry the TrueCrypt command after {{ic|modprobe loop}}. Should it work, consider to add ''loop'' to the modules in {{ic|/etc/modules-load.d}}: # tee /etc/modules-load.d/truecrypt.conf <<< "loop" {{Note|As of udev 181-5, the loop device module is no longer auto-loaded, and the procedure described here is necessary.}} I am using a stock kernel. I tried to use sudo to run truecrypt and it failed to setup a loop device. I did a check of lsmod output and loop was not loaded after I made the truecrypt.conf change. After I modprobe loop by hand truecrypt would work and the encrypted drive would be mounted on /mnt/truecrypt1. Is there something which needs to edited to the wiki page regarding truecrypt.conf? [arch-general] How to show (kernel) messages by journalctl?

Hi, yesterday I rebooted at 17:51 from linux 3.11.4-1 to linux-rt 3.10.14_rt9-1 and then shut down at 17:55. How can I get log data, kernel messages of this startup? [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ A log in for rt kernels 3.10.x doesn't work on my machine, rt kernels 3.8.x don't cause this issue. During shutdown and startup there were much more messages, than just "Oct 12 17:51:10 archlinux systemd[579]: Stopping Default." [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ journalctl -k -- Logs begin at Wed 2013-08-28 22:06:09 CEST, end at Sat 2013-10-12 20:36:06 CEST. -- JFTR there are no .xsession-errors.old for the attempt to log in. Hi, this is my configuration: $ cat /etc/logwatch/conf/logwatch.conf mailer = "/usr/bin/postfix" Running: # logwatch --debug 5 shows the familiar output. But running: # /etc/cron.daily/0logwatch does not deliver output to root or forwarded to myself.

[arch-general] Moving kpovmodeler and kgraphviewer to unsupported

I plan to move both packages to unsupported: * kpovmodeler isn't maintained upstream anymore and homepage is dead. it doesn't work anymore with upstream povray with third party patches. (see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36352) * kgraphviewer isn't maintained upstream anymore except cosmetic patches, and will not work with graphviz-2.34.0 in staging without deep changes. -- Laurent Carlier ArchLinux Developer http://www.archlinux.org

There are several "tricks" you can use to get networking from wifi to a guest. VMWare (Workstation) uses NAT by default, turning your computer into a gateway router and creating a virtual bridge. This can be done in linux, just google "iptables nat". You could also (in theory, at least) pass your wifi card hardware through to the guest. It would only allow one guest to connect at a time, but this may be acceptable ib your use case, I don't know. If you need more help with Xen configuration, there is a very helpful Xen mailing list called xen-users. You'd get more Xen help there than on arch-general, I think. --- --John "Sean" Greenslade

Hello I am trying to install xen. I am using this page as a guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xen I have a problem where I can not get the commands for setting up the networking bridge to work. During the xen installation, I noted that it uses netctl instead of netcfg. I made those changes and if I boot my regular kernel it appears to work with a wifi connection. Here is the result of some command regarding networking with regular kernel. [root@t61p ~]# netctl list xenbridge-dhcp * wlan0-hs-dlink wlan0-hs-dlink.wifi-menu [root@t61p ~]# I believe this command shows that wlan0-hs-dlink is the active profile and is enabled at boot automatically. For instance: [root@t61p ~]# systemctl | grep hs-dlink netctl(a)wlan0\x2dhs\x2ddlink.service loaded active exited Networking for netctl profile wlan0-hs-dlink [root@t61p ~]# This is a result of systemd having netctl(a)wlan0\x2dhs\x2ddlink.service in the /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants directory. So it looks ok for having networking via wifi working in regular linux kernel. As far as xen and bridge goes, I created the following file /etc/netctl/xenbridge-dhcp with the following contents: Description="Xen Bridge connection" Interface=xenbr0 Connection=bridge BindsToInterfaces=(wlan0 wlan1 tap0) IP=dhcp Basically, I used the example given on the arch xen wiki page and changed eth0 to wlan0 and eth1 to wlan1. When I try to start the xenbr0 (bridge) I get an error about tap0 not found. This is the command I issue (bascially from the wiki) and the result from journalctl # netctl start xenbridge-dhcp -- Unit netctl(a)xenbridge\x2ddhcp.service has begun starting up. [arch-general] Black screen at first boot

Hi List, since a few days (I did not change anything, no updates, nothing) the first boot of my machine results in a non-responsive black screen. I have to do a cold-start, and then the second boot works as expected. Has anybody witnessed this too? A hardware problem? -- cheers, Thorsten

[arch-general] Way too much kworkers

Hello, I've googled a bit and saw that other people have this problem too, but without solution. They had maybe 8 or 10 kworker processes. After 2 suspends, I have 172. ps -ef | grep kworker | wc -l 173 (one of the line is grep's process). Is there any solution?
