[arch-general] Writing xkb mappings

Hi list Using xmodmap to redefine my keyboard mappings was causing Openbox to hang for about a minute, so I read up on writing my own layouts using xkb[1]. By and large I've achived the desired results (in much fewer lines too!) but there's still a few things that don't quite work. 1. I think I've mapped ALT+CAPS_LOCK to act as the third level switch, but this works sporadically at best. I want to add mathematical symbols to the keypad, and xev detects most of them, but I can't type them anywhere except in Vim. There's a dump of the key mapping xkbcomp created at [2]. 2. Is is possible to have complex variable mappings similar to as described here[3] in X.org? That guide is Max OS X specific, but it's definitely quite nifty. This sounds like you're missing a dependency (at least) for building. Try installing elfutils from the extra-repository. Appears to be missing as a dependency in the PKGBUILD. mfg narve

An attempt to install GNS3 failed with the output below. Im not sure why or what to do next. Has anyone else faced the same issue and got past it? Please share your solution. If not can a more savy user take a look at the output and point me in the right direction? [arch-general] host and win7 guest files sharing

Dear list, I built a win7 guest with virt-install: $virt-install --connect qemu:///system --name=merdox --ram 4000 --cpu host --disk path=/dev/vg0/lv_merdox,bus=virtio,sparse=false,format=raw --cdrom /dev/cdrom --description="merdox -vm guest on host magnolia" --graphics vnc --os-type=windows --os-variant=win7 --video=vga --hvm --accelerate --network bridge=br0 --disk path=/home/gabx/isofiles/virtio-win-0.1-30.iso,device=cdrom Everything is fine so far. The only point is I can't share folders (unless using USB key). I couldn't use these arguments : -device virtio-9p-pci,id=fs0,fsdev=fsdev0,mount_tag=hostshare, only possible with $qemu-kvm. I found some tuto explaining how to share with VM Manager: Details ->add filesystem . I did it, but when : # mount -t 9p -o trans=virtio,version=9p2000.L /hostshare /tmp/sharewin7 it returns : mount: special device /hostshare does not exist, with this error in logs : 9pnet_virtio: no channels available All modules are loaded (9p,9pnet,9pnet-virtio,virtio_netvirtio). I am supposed to find available mount tags in /sys/bus/virtio/drivers/9pnet_virtio/virtio<n>/mount_tag files. But I don't have /virtio<n> Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? TY for help

hi list, i am running an arch server (x84_64) inside a virtual private server. now that systemd smoothly comes to be standart, i would like to understand, how this affects my machine. as this is a vps, i have no control over the running kernel, which is a 2.6.36.4-vs2.3.0.36.39-netcup atm. (netcup is a german webhosting provider). also i do not know much about the virtualisation machinery running there. as this is a server used for productivity, i would like to understand whats happening to it, to keep maintenance downtime at a reasonable low level. at what point will i (propably) get in trouble because of systemd, when (if ever) will i be unable to boot with this machine if i keep updating? thanks for helping suggestions. georg

Hey everyone! It's that time again for arch to get the latest ghc! GHC 7.6.1 comes with a bunch of new and exciting features: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/7.6.1/html/users_guide/release-7-6-1.html It took just over a month to do the full rebuild because of the amount of patching and coordination with upstream we had to do.
