Since the latest xorg groups transition there's a package xorg-apps in [extra] and a group (xorg-apps). I guess one of them - most likely the package in [extra] - should be removed. Heiko

[arch-general] pacman: downloading without "looking for inter-conflicts"?

Is there some way of downloading upgradable packages without running the "looking for inter-conflicts" step? I have a locally modified broadcom-wl package[1], the modification is a dependency on the specific version of the kernel (in order to avoid the all too common situation where I updated the kernel and promptly lost connectivity). What I'd really like to do is download all upgradable packages, then remove connectivity in a controlled way, perform the upgrade from the local cache, re-boot, re-build the broadcom-wl package. I fail at this since 'pacman -Suw' won't download upgradable packages if there are "inter-conflicts" (in my case caused by my broadcom-wl package). [arch-general] Can a ISP modify incoming http traffic to display ads using transparent proxy server ?

My ISP is running a transparent proxy server on port 80 as I found out from this thread http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-general/2011-March/019172.html Now from last two or three days, I keep getting pop-up ads from a particular domain on every website i go to - even on text only websites ! If i choose another proxy server in firefox , then that does not appear on any site. But i normally connect to internet, that specific pop-up to a very particular website appears on every single page. If I install adblock plus in firefox, then of course no ads are displayed. So is it possible that my ISP is serving that ad by intercepting incoming http traffic ?

[arch-general] A question regarding lxc

Can anyone please tell me whether my understanding of lxc is correct. Say I have lxc containers foo1, foo2 and bar1, bar2 such that (1) foo1 and foo2 have seperate file hiearchy and (2) bar1 and bar2 share /usr /bin/ (i.e. directories where executables and shared libraries are kept) via read only bind mount. I would expect that in configuration (2) for common shared libraries, only one copy would be loaded where as for (1) both will load its own versions of the shared library even if they are identical otherwise. Is that correct? The next question is what is the best way to check this out. Regards ppk

[arch-general] cancel request to reopen a feature request

Is there a way to cancel a request to reopen a feature request? Seems I jumped the gun just a little when I requested to reopen it, as the package release that implements the feature took a little time to get to my mirror of choice, and I based my request on the prior release. The task in question is #23517, and it should indeedd remain closed, as the feature has been implemented and I have successfully tested it. The error message I pasted in the task is from the previous release, which was still the latest version on my chosen mirror at the time I encountered the error. BTW, I would like to thank the Arch developers for such a quick response to my rather minor feature request. It was fixed just over two hours after I submitted it. You guys rock! ~Kyle
