Guys, Booting from the dual install media, attempting to chroot again and I got an error I've never seen before: "chroot failed to run command `/bin/bash`: Exec format error" I checked with mount and all partitions and dev proc and sys where all mounted where they should be, but the box wouldn't chroot to my mount point under /mnt/a. [arch-general] [PATCH 1/1] Make umounting filesystems much more paranoid.

In addition to just umounting filesystems, we also try to tear down volume groups, crypt mappings, and loopback devices. We skip /, /proc, /sys, and /dev when umounting filesystems. We do all of the above in a loop, escalating how forcible we are in umounting filesystems up to the point where we give up and try to just remount filesystems read-only. We do not escalate how forcible we are until we stop making progress in umounting filesystems. This patch does not print anything when tearing down crypt devices, deactivating volume groups, or tearing down loopback devices. It does this because root on lvm and root on dm_crypt are fairly common cases, and figuring out which of these is the case and avoiding that volume group or dm_crypt mapping is tricky. [arch-general] Updated kernel - 2nd issue - compiz whitescreens (radeon driver)

Guys, One other issue I am having with the box after the kernel update is that compiz whitescreens now. (that usually means a driver wasn't recompiled, but this is with the stock xf86-video-ati package). Compiz starts just fine, I get the splash screen, but everything is white. I have had that a number of times when I have forgotten to recompile a driver after a kernel update, but not when using a stock driver. The package I have is: xf86-video-ati-6.13.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz (I checked with lsmod and the radeon driver was loaded just fine) Currently I am not using an xorg.conf, so everything is from the default settings. Not long ago I posted about how impressed I was with the new kernel and ati driver, but something seems to be out of whack now. What can I try to get compiz running again? (I got this much info before being stuck by the UTF-8 issue, so we will have to fix that one before I can boot to work on this compiz issue) Thanks again for your help. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [arch-general] Updated kernel to 34.1 on x86-64 laptop, won't boot, stuck "Setting Console to UTF-8 Mode" ??

Guys, I need help recovering from a failure to boot. I updated the kernel to kernel26-2.6.34.1-1 and booted once without issue. I then just configured kdemod3 a bit and went to reboot and now the boot process sticks at the message: "Setting Console to UTF-8 Mode" Huh? I tried the fallback kernel, and it sticks at the same point. Double Huh? I don't understand how it could boot once, then not boot anymore, especially since it sticks at the weird UTF-8 message. That just seems like a weird place to stop in the boot process. When it sticks, the box is hardlocked. I have to power-off to get out of there. ctrl+alt+del or ctrl+c, etc. has no effect. I can boot the new install medium just fine and I can chroot the system under a mount point, but I don't know how to go about fixing or even figuring out this problem. Hi, Today I found that I need to add the +s flag to /usr/bin/wodim to be able to burn CDs. In the past I did not think this was the case. I have hal running still and my user is a member of the optical group. I last updated this morning. I'm running testing on x86_64 in case that makes a difference.
