mirror problems 503 reply?

All, I don't know if this is a know problem or if I'm just lucky, but checking the mirror status from the archlinux.org main page show more than 50% of the mirrors without any sync status. Trying an update, I just got a 503 reply for an http mirror. Changed to one showing it was syncing -- no issue. Do we have mirror problems? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Display manager cannot login to any desktop

Hello all, I am having trouble diagnose display manager problem. I can login to a shell via Ly, and execute Hyprland. However, ly failed to login to Hyprland (and gnome) directly. Here are some relevant configurations: /usr/share/wayland-sessions/hyprland.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Hyprland Comment=An intelligent dynamic tiling Wayland compositor Exec=Hyprland Type=Application systemctl and journalctl look OK to me. Any idea what could go wrong? Thanks!

How to handle reopening old closed bugs

Hi @ll, I've one old closed bug [0] in the pipeline, which is still alive and should be fixed one day ;-) [0] https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/46398 If I want to revive it, how to do this in the intended way? As far as I see, old closed bugs are not migrated to the shiny new gitlab. Is that true? If so, how to bring the old wisdom in the new system? I could not find it in gitlab and it does not have any hint about a place there as migrated bugs (closed because of migration) do have. So finally the question: How to revive old closed bugs from flyspray in gitlab? -- Friedrich

Hi, Dovecot got a CVE patch release to 2.3.21.1. - CVE-2024-23184: A large number of address headers in email resulted in excessive CPU usage. - CVE-2024-23185: Abnormally large email headers are now truncated or discarded, with a limit of 10MB on a single header and 50MB for all the headers of all the parts of an email. So I wanted to mark it out of date - and now I'm wondering why it's already out of date for 11 months. Regards Bjoern

/usr/bin/tqdm in filesystem NOT owned by any package? (python tqdm)

Devs, I was surprised trying to install a python-tqdm package to get the error: (2/2) checking for file conflicts [######################################] 100% error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files) python-tqdm: /usr/bin/tqdm exists in filesystem Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded. The package is there: $ l /usr/bin/tqdm -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 206 Jul 8 2021 /usr/bin/tqdm I check with pacman to find the owning package -- and there is none: $ pacman -Qo /usr/bin/tqdm error: No package owns /usr/bin/tqdm How can I check how it got there and what may depend on it? I don't install stray packages, and especially not to /usr/bin, so this is a surprise. I don't want to just willy-nilly remove it either and have something unknown break. jenux for me for the future

Reason I haven't got the real archlinux on this computer is because I'm in a low grade wi-fi network and iwctl does a couple things that make it impossible to install archlinux. The first is minor but the second is a show stopper. The device list command constantly scrolls the screen with the same information coming up on it. Same thing happens with the station wlan0 connect command scrolling available networks constantly. The second thing iwctl does which is a show stopper is to get the correct network name entered which has a couple spaces in it and get the correct password and then fail to connect throwing an error. I'm using Jenux since somehow Jenux gets around both of these problems. I think iwctl either needs to be cleaned up and improved or I think iwctl needs to be replaced with something that works for wi-fi networks better than iwctl can do it. I don't know how to set up debugging for iwctl and capture useful error information otherwise you'd have that useful error information in this message. We're on penteledata.net so internet quality is also low and was no better on verizon-fios when I used that. These problems are not unique to me either. I was helping a friend for a couple weeks until he finally managed to connect to wi-fi in a remote location with iwctl on archlinux. He is sighted and also had a problem with the scrolling. Laptop Running Hot

Greetings, Lately (the past week or two?), my laptop has been running much hotter than usual, as experienced by my lap and reported by conky and sensors, even after a reboot and before I start X11, and when just idling. Previously, it had been running around 35 to 40 degrees Celsius. Now, it's more like 55 to 60. If I shut the lid and walk away for 10 or 15 minutes, it cools down. But when I open the lid and don't do anything else, the temperature rises again in a few minutes. This happens even when top reports 100% idle, and uptime shows the load average at 0.1±. After multiple lockups attributed to the nvidia 550 drivers a few months ago, I use nvidia-535xx-dkms. I run pacman -Syu daily. Sometimes, problems like this go away with the next kernel or driver(s) update, but that hasn't happened. I would include logs and version numbers, but I'm not sure where to start. :-) I checked the BBS, but I didn't immediately't see anything related. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan
