[arch-general] latex - no beamer classes

Hello everyone, I'm preparing a latex beamer presentation. Therefore I installed the latex-beamer package from the AUR. But when I try to compile my presentation with \usetheme{CambridgeUs}, I get a message, that the theme cannot be found, although I have it in /usr/share/tex-mf/... and I also did texhash. [arch-general] Laptop overheating causes decreased CPU performance until reboot (even after cooling)

Hi, I have a dell 1564 laptop with an i5-M430 cpu, running arch linux. For a long while now I've had issues with very degraded CPU performance if my cpu temperature is very hot till around ~95 degree Celsius. The problem is that the degraded cpu performance stays inspite of cooling down back to 60 degrees, and even multiple suspend-resume cycles. The only way to reset the same is a reboot. I can't seem to track down the cause of this. The cpu frequency etc. look normal, all 4 vitual-cpu's are active from cpuinfo. top reports nearly 5x increased % cpu usage for process compared to what they normally use. Some simple CPU benchmarks (N-Queens) also take approximately 5 times longer. I'm using kernel: 3.14.6-1-ARCH 64bit Can you suggest some ways to track down this issue? or alternatively a way to reset this so that I don't need to reboot to restore performance. The issue is reproducable (I just need to use the CPU at max, for a while to overheat it), so I can provide any logs etc. if it will help to find the cause. [arch-general] Migrating /var to a different partition

Hi, I'm doing a clean install of Arch on a new computer, and during the install I'd already set aside 2GiB for the /var partition. Except I forgot to add it to fstab before I exited chroot, and booted into Arch and installed a DE etc. Now two days later I realize that Arch has already created a /var directory on the / partition. How do I migrate /var into the partition I'd originally created for it? Is it as simple as adding a line to fstab and rebooting? Thanks, Krishna

[arch-general] Gnome extensions and the extension site

For a while now I get the following message when I visit https://extensions.gnome.org/: We cannot detect a running copy of GNOME on this system, so some parts of the interface may be disabled. See our troubleshooting entry for more information. It was working a few months ago; since this is Arch it was quite a few updates ago ;) Now a couple of the extensions I like are out of date and I'd like to update them. I've looked at the "troubleshooting entry" but nothing there improves the situation. Are others seeing this, or am I alone? Hello, all The contents of my /etc/fstab are as follows: /dev/sda3 / btrfs rw,relatime,space_cache,autodefrag 0 0 /dev/sda1 /boot ext2 rw,relatime 0 2 /dev/sda5 /home btrfs rw,relatime,space_cache,autodefrag 0 0 Whenever I start my laptop up, /home takes ~17-19 seconds to mount, as is evidenced by this line in the output of systemd-analyze blame: 16.467s home.mount Running df -h on my system, I get: Filesystem Total Used Free Use% Mounted on /dev/sda5 422G 364G 53G 88% /home However, running du -h --summarize /home, I get: 318G /home If I use xdiskusage to see the partition, it shows 46.48G as /home/(permission denied). I tried doing this using sudo, and I still have the same problem. I have neither subvolumes nor any snapshots on this volume. Is there any way of recovering this space? Hi Once upon a time, it was said that for each interface, only the first .link file matching was taken into account. However, as I was investigating all the new features of the latest release, I couldn't find this affirmation. Was it fixed ? Yamakaky

[arch-general] fstab and root filesystem

Hello, I have been playing with the initramfs, and I noticed that the root filesystem is mounted in read-write mode in early init. Since, by the time /etc/fstab is available, the filesystem on which it resides (presumably, the root filesystem) is already mounted, and mounting it is anyway early init's task, not real init's (because the real init cannot be found without the initramfs), there seems to be no point in keeping it listed. I haven't found anything about this, but commenting out the pertinent line hasn't broken anything. Is it fine, or are there any reasons for it to be listed in fstab? Regards, Kalrish
