hi everyones!! cuando corro pacman -Syu se demora muchisimo, todo esto despues de actualizar gnome 3.2. Rhytmbox tampoco me corre. somebody know when i update, its very slowly. [arch-general] no ACPI estimate in powertop with latest kernels

Hello everyone, Powertop reports "no ACPI power usage estimate available" with x86_64 kernels 3.0.6-1 and 3.0.6-2. Downgrading to kernel 3.0.4-1 restored power estimates. Older kernels had always worked in the past. Processor is Intel i3, quad core, in a ThinkPad Edge 14 running Gnome 3.2 fully upgraded daily. -- Neal

[arch-general] See the llvm volumes from GRUB console

Hello, I upgarded a remote machine recently. And i got loocked out of the system. I still have acess to the machine trough serial console (KVM). Is there any way to list the lvm volumes from there ? Since my /dev/mapper/Root-root doesn't work. -- Regards, Alfredo Palhares

[arch-general] Pacman makepkg and signatures

Since I don't listen in on irc conversations and haven't picked up on this being discussed on the mailing list, I thought I would go ahead and ask a seemingly dumb question. When building a pacakge from core, extra, or community with makepkg should I locate the signature key for the source tarball and import it into the pacman-key database, or will there be a mechanism for this in the future, or since the same package is used by the devs is it completely unnecessry for me to worry about? Obviously the build completes after issuing the warning about a problem with signature verification and being sure you trust the package so it's not a problem, I'm just trying to stay ahead of the curve. [arch-general] Discussion on usage of [testing] repo - minimal requirements?

It may break critical/[core] packages, as such users are strongly encouraged to subscribe to [arch-dev-public] and watch the [testing] sub-forum. Second reference - this forum thread - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=128682 A user basically is using [testing] without fulfilling the above requirements. Should the user be advised not to use [testing] or is this counter-productive to the purpose of [testing]? This discussion is not meant to be commentary on any of the personalities involved in the thread, the thread did spark this but I'd like to hear (esp from devs/TUs) opinions on the general case, not the specific case. The reason for this is that its possible there's quite a bit of difference in opinions, and some clarity would (IMO) help. My personal opinion - If you don't fulfil the above requirement you should not use [testing], and other Arch users should graciously inform you as such. Sorry for the long email, feel free to mute this thread, since I do know its got high potential for unproductive cross-chatter.

I've been doing 'pacman -Syu' for several days in a row lately to see no updates. Is bibleo.org still a good repo in the US? Is aArch all that quiet lately or am I missing something?

Hi. I'm trying to translate some articles into Turkish. While looking to the net, i've found a wiki extension named Translate extension. Advantages of this extension as well as the contact information of authors can be found here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Translate Features include: In-wiki localisation, proofreading and exporting of software interface messages (or just about anything) AJAX enabled web-based translation in supported browsers, as well as gettext based export and import for off-line translation. Structured content page translation using the same system as interface translation. Various aids to make the job of translators easier: Display of translations in globally defined other languages, optionally expanded with user defined languages Collaborative editing of documentation of the use and context of messages Translation memory and machine translation with external tools (tmserver, Google Translate, Apertium) Display of the latest change in the source message Warnings about common mistakes like parameters that are not used. Pre-made modules for various open source products you can use as an example. A versatile plug-in system to make it easy to add new projects as a message group. Various statistics (requires PHPlot for graphics) Translation completion percentages for all message groups in all supported languages Daily updates of completion percentages in all supported languages for any supported message group (if configured). Tool for making activity graphs for spans of time. Can display either number of edits or active users daily or hourly and includes many filters. A more detailed manual for the Translate extension is available at translatewiki.net. This extension can significantly ease up maintenance of the translations with no additional efforts to sync translations with original (automatic synchronization). Also it give us a chance to have "separate wiki for each language" without loosing untranslated information, besides it may eliminate English_Title (Language) weirdness. I think, exporting wiki pages to gnu gettext catalogs format should boosts translations may be using transifex or pootle with wider contributions. I can't find information about this extension in the forums if it have been discussed before. Also i'm just a humble contributor so i don't know if it can be implemented. What do you think about this?

Hi Alex, I think in a default configuration crond handles hourly and runs anacron to handle the daily, weekly, etc. I was having trouble running a daily until I realized my cron.daily shell script environment path did not include /usr/local/bin.
