[arch-general] Keyboard AND/OR Mouse issue (OR Xorg)

Hi all! I'm glad to use Arch; and it's my first post in here. I've an Asus Eee PC 1201HA which doesn't appear in the ArchWiki; but reading a mix of another Eee's I could make it work fairly good; although there's one issue left. To begin with, it's "special" features which need extra packages are: -Intel GMA500 graphics with POULSBO driver. (Say no more... someday there will be AMD netbooks easily available in Argentina) -Synaptics Keypad (xf86-input-synaptics) -Can't remember the brand of the HD, bur it needs to set APM in zero so it stops parking randomly. -Some APM package so the netbook manages power more efficiently and some other package to recognize function keys. "Fn" key PLUS other things work ok. The issue is that whenever I'm writting, regardless of what application I'm working in, there's some sort of random "paste" of some signal text. Examples are: "MouseNavigationClick"; "GoogleSearch" if there's an open firefox, etc. I have no certain evidence, but I suspect it's when some of my fingers touch the mousepad. Example of what I see: $ pacman -S k3... and suddenly it comes out: $ pacman -S k3SignalSlotMouseb Understandable right? I suspect it's something to do with Xorg.conf, although the problem was there even when that file didn't exist. The actual xorg.conf is the one on the wiki for poulsbo; it doesn't have any mention to Mouse or keyboard. If anyone had a similar problem, any suggestion would be welcome. Configure xorg.conf To tell Xorg to use this driver, change the Driver line in |/etc/X11/xorg.conf| to read as: Driver "psb" You can also try adding a couple options to try improving acceleration or stability: with: Option "ShadowFB" "true" and possibly: Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" Cross fingers and restart X.

[arch-general] Ghost / Daniel Griffiths packages in [community]

Sadly Ghost resigned as TU, he has done a good job and I thank him again for all his hard work. But there are still much packages left in [community] which he owns, therefore I like to see these packages adopted or moved to [unsupported] . [arch-general] How best to downgrade gcc to 4.4 or 4.3?

Guys, After running into a gcc 4.5.2 segfault, the trinity developer suggested a test to downgrade gcc to 4.4 or 4.3 and see if the gcc issue and issue concerning iccconfig.cpp go away. Looking through my old packages, the earliest I can find is 4.5.1. How best to downgrade?... and will I break everything if I do? My thought was just to pull the ABS pkgbuild and change pkgver back to 4.4.x, but I don't know if this will miss any patches, etc.. that may have been in place for earlier versions that are no longer there. Is there any old archive for pkgbuilds that would have an old gcc 4.4 or 4.3 in it? (obviously, if I knew the answers -- I wouldn't ask :) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

anyone ever looked at http://netconf.alioth.debian.org/ ? looks interesting. I know a bunch of us are working on network management tools (like netcfg and replacements for it), but that one seems to have a good philosophy and should be distro independent. Dieter

[arch-general] Packages with update-desktop-database issues

Hi, I recently found that wine doesn't run update-desktop-database (FS#22882) but that's not the only package with this issue. I tested all my installed packages with this command: for i in $(grep -Rl 'MimeType=.*/.*' /usr/share/applications/*); do pkg= $(LANG=C pacman -Qo "$i"); grep -L update-desktop-database /var/lib/pacman/local/$(echo $pkg | cut -d\ -f5)-$(echo $pkg | cut -d\ -f6)/install; done The result was that at least these packages don't run update-desktop-database although they install Mime associations: extra/chromium extra/evolution extra/mplayer extra/openjdk6 extra/qt extra/sound-juicer community/mplayer-vaapi community/shotwell community/virtualbox community/wine There are probably many more broken packages which I don't have installed. I tried to get these via pkgfile but didn't succeed. I really wonder why namcap doesn't do any checks on this. -- Matthias Dienstbier

Can someone please delete the original "ejecter" package? [arch-general] xf86-video-ati, xbrightness and KMS bug

Hi guys. I've switched to xf86-video-ati from fgrlx and have some troubles with changing brightness level. xbrightness tells me: "No outputs have backlight property". With fgrlx it worked like a charm. If anyone have a solution - it will be great. P.S. My keyboard dead now, so i have to use discrete, and have no FN buttons. I have asus x61s. Video: Ati Radeon HD4570 and enabled KMS. Without KMS X won't start. Kernel: 2.6.37-5 Driver: 6.14.0-1 xorg.conf.d file: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/338214/ -- With best wishes or hundreds of hate.

[arch-general] util-linux 2.19 release

Attached is a changelog and a PKGBUILD for the recently released util-linux 2.19. Changes I've made to the PKGBUILD: - name change: the project is once again called util-linux. I've updated the conflicts accordingly, and removed the ancient reference to linux32. I think its worth keeping the versioned conflict with e2fsprogs. - remove install scriptlet: this info file is no longer provided - use autogen.sh script instead of manually invoking autotools - remove --enable-rdev flag. this has been non-existant since 2.17 - no need to rm stuff in package() -- these files are no longer part of util-linux Other thoughts: If we build this with --enable-libmount-mount, we can do away with /etc/mtab and make it a symlink to /proc/self/mounts. It is, however, marked as experimental in the release notes. I've been running the -git version of util-linux for about a month now, and have had no problems with low level functionality e.g. booting or mounting. thanks, dave

Guys, Has anyone else experienced a segmentation fault with the current gcc? From the error, I take it this is a gcc issue and I'll submit it there, but I wanted to see if anyone else had seen it (or something like it) and what, if anything, else the Arch devs would like to see on the issue. -- David C.
