Hi all, AUR has the package celt which I've always had installed (installed it long time back to compile some audio app). http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=27117 Repos have celt-0.7 which provides celt. Thing is, when I try to makepkg jack-audio-connection-kit-mp (which doesn't depend on celt at all) it fails when celt is installed, but works when celt-0.7 or no celt is installed. There's overlap between AUR packages and other stuff here, so I'm not sure whether this belongs on this ML, or even in a personal email to the maintainer. In which case, my question would be, which maintainer? Thanks.

[arch-general] Xorg install problems - solved but some questions

Hello all, Today I turned my 10th machine into an ArchLinux system. A Fujitsu W270, nice laptop, just whished it were mine. Things become routine, I just anticipated some hickups as this was the first install using the new 'halogen free' Xorg. That expectation turned out to be true, but ATM everything works nicely and I just remain with some things I don't understand. This machine has Nvidia graphics (Quadro FX 770M) and a screen resolution of 1680x1050. I started with a sytem working perfectly in RL 3, with nouveau doing an early KMS. Installed xorg, xdm and its Arch theme, windowmaker and some fonts. The first 'init 5' resulted in some fireworks on the screen, followed by static garbage and a machine that seemed to be locked up, the only escape being the power button. No panic, been there before. Before looking into this I decided to add 'nomodeset' to my kernel options, just to save my eyes which don't get younger. Just doing this changed things: on the next 'init 5' X started and since I had an ~/.xsession ready I could even log in. But the screen resolution didn't look OK, it was just 1280x720. Looking at the logs it turned out that X was using the vesa driver. It has the 1680x1050 mode natively, but refused to use it because some sync parameters were out of range. So it reverted to 1280x720. Adding a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d defining Monitor, Device, Screen and the required mode didn't help. At that point I was sort of lost. In a desparate attempt I did a pacman -S xf86-video-nv, and rebooted. Result: everything OK - X starts with the correct screen resolution and everything works fine. So this leaves me with the following question: Why was X using vesa, and is using nv after I installed it ? What stops it using nouveau which is already loaded ? Or does 'nomodeset' stop X using nouveau (things look like it does, but that is unexpected). Another unrelated question: looking at the screeen of this laptop I suspect it requires a non-standard gamma value. How can this be set ? TIA, -- FA There are three of them, and Alleline.

Hola lista, tengo una impresora HP1020, y me esta dando algo de trabajo hacerla funcionar. En realidad, he seguido los pasos de un articulo del wiki, y logre hacerla funcionar. En dicho articulo, explica que el modulo usblp debe cargarse al configurar la impresora, pero despues, ese modulo no debe estar cargado para que la impresora funcione. Entonces proponen como solucion agregar la siguiente linea en /etc/rc.local rmmod usblp Esto funciona cuando booteo el sistema. El modulo se descarga y la impresora funciona. El problema es cuando apago y enciendo la impresora con Arch corriendo. Esta accion causa la recarga del modulo usblp, y la impresora deja de funcionar. Entonces, como puedo prevenir la carga de este modulo cuando enciendo la impresora ? Gracias

[arch-general] Pacman fails to update?

Hi guys, I'm having this rare issue: several days ago I installed some things from [Testing] and because I don't wanna screw-up my system I turned it off. Since then, every day I check for updates -roughly 10 days more or less- pacman keeps telling it's all up-to-date while I know there's nearly everyday an update while not within several hours, at least in my system with what I have installed. Also I was using packer (a community tool to deal with AUR) which keeps telling some installed packages (14) were newer than those found in theire repos (not from AUR but from extra and community rpositories). Today I downloaded latest mirrorlist, did a # pacman -Syy && pacman -Suu and gave system is up-to-date which is in fact very strange, I mean, come on, there wasn't any updates in all these days? I don't think so :p But the weirdest thing is afeter issue those orders I did a $ packer -Syu to update AUR packages and guess what? I remember I had something like 140 packages installed from AUR but this time packer wanted to check for 1272 packages lol The weirdest thing? I can't install ABS, as you hear it, pacman can't found it in extra (or community or wherever it resides). So the million question here is: is there *any* way to initialize whole pacman and it local repositories cache? I think of it as the last resort to may be fix this. Thanks!

[arch-general] Arch forum closed for maintenance?

I guess I'm enough of an addict to Arch info that not having access to the Arch forum for a few minutes is like Humphrey Bogart having to go without a cigarette after a nice meal. Is the forum presently down for maintenance? I get a request for a logon and password, and when I supply these (perhaps unwisely, if the forum is being hacked), I still don't get logged on. I'm assuming it's legitimate downtime for maintenance, but I haven't seen an announcement. Does anybody know?

[arch-general] makepkg and md5/sha1/etc

makepkg has support for using hashes besides md5, but is there a way to get 'makepkg -g' to generate any hashes besides md5? Based on what I found in makepkg.conf(5) I modified the variable INTEGRITY_CHECK, both in ~/.makepkg.conf and /etc/makepkg.conf. But neither had any effect, 'makepkg -g' still insisted on generating md5 hashes.
