If there are no comments, I will be playing it safe > with these. > > Any comments before I start? cpio is probably not necessarily needed by the average user, but as far as I know it's needed to uncompress or read the content of the initrd (e.g. xzcat kernel26.img | cpio -t), which sometimes can be necessary for debugging purposes. So I'm not sure if cpio must be kept in the base group but it should stay in [core]. And cryptsetup definitely needs to stay in [core] and in the base group because this is needed for encrypting hard disks, which is supported by AIF anyway. And cryptsetup is needed at boot time and during the installation from the LiveCDs. This is an essential tool which mustn't be removed from the base group and from [core]. And I'm not sure if cracklib should be removed from [core]. If it's moved to [extra] then this may be an option. Greetings, Heiko

Hi guys, this has been known for a while, that init shows as ini. http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15362 Now that we have ditched klibc, can this bug be fixed now?

[arch-general] Microsoft keyboard and unworking keys

Hi all, I have a Microsoft keyboard (*hides*) and some of its multimedia keys don't work (most of them do, though), as in "they don't show any keycode on 'xev' or 'showkey'". I don't really think I'll get them to work, but I'll ask anyway: is there any hack to make them work? It's a Digital Media 3000 if it makes any difference. TIA

[arch-general] How to obtain development headers for package

Hey, Maybe I'm just not understanding how Arch works, so please forgive my ignorance. I come from ubuntu, and there you get development headers for most packages by following the naming convention, which is package-dev. A quick apt-cache search package | grep dev would yield the right package. Now, I'm trying to obtain these on my fresh arch, but can't seem to find anything through pacman search or google. Anyone could hint me in the right direction? If it's useful, I need the dev headers for sqlite3.

[arch-general] Some flowers & request for advice

Hello all, Over the past 3 months I've installed Arch on five different machines: an IBM R51, a Fujitsu-Siemens W360, my home machine which has no pedigree, an EEE-1000H and an today an EEE-904HA. Apart from one major panic related to the libpng14 update there have not been any significant problems, and the ones that emerged have been solved by prompt feedback on this list or by the information provided on the Wiki. Five more W360 are to follow soon. All this merits a big thanks to the developers and maintainers of Arch, and to all those who have kindly provided help. I don't think I could have had the same results (in all cases a setup *very* close to what was required) as easily from any other distro. One of my next projects will require touchscreens for a 'kiosk' type of application, and I'm still trying to find the right hardware. Any suggestions will be much appreciated (if they work with Arch of course). Ciao, -- FA O tu, che porte, correndo si ? E guerra e morte !
