Guys, Probably old news to most, but I was very pleased to see the good press Arch got from distrowatch.com this week. The new TB update from today enables and installs lightning by default. Bugreport: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/17510?project=1&pagenum=1 This is a bad idea, because some people don´t want it. Mozilla doesn´t recommend to set the calendar flag on building... Another point is, that the builtin calendar extension is not localized. So, on non-english systems people have a "language mix" in TB... -- Regards Juergen

[arch-general] Firefox Themes Will Not Install / Disabled - Unsecure Extenstion Updates

Guys, After the latest firefox updates, most of my themes were disabled and new themes would not install. After the automatic update check tried to install the Foxide Graphite theme, I found out why. During the install, I received a messages telling me that firefox would not install the theme because it did not provide a secure update path. Digging a little bit disclosed the following: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions_-_Firefox Unsecured updating Firefox 3 and above: Starting in Firefox 3, if an add-on does not provide a secure method of auto-updating then, by default, Firefox will refuse to install the add-on. If you have add-ons already installed that are insecure in this way, they will be automatically disabled. [6] Add-ons from AMO (https://addons.mozilla.org/) and other secured sites are not a problem; for add-ons that do provide a secure updating method, advanced users can add the preference extensions.checkUpdateSecurity (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Extensions.checkUpdateSecurity) and set it to false (not recommended). See this article: http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Extension_Versioning%2C_Update_and_Com… and bug 378216 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378216) for more information. With the driver there is no way to automate the process other than building, installing, restarting X and checking and then marking good/bad. [arch-general] Kernel 2.6.32 and Radeon KMS

Hi, I installed kernel26 and kernel26-firmware from testing, and I'm experiencing some problems with KMS. During system initialization, the system requests the firmware radeon/R300_cp.bin, waits a couple of seconds and then proceeds normal initialization. But when I log into X, DRI isn't enabled. Checking dmesg, I see that the kernel couldn't load R300 firmware, therefore disabling GPU acceleration. My problem is the same of this post: http://old.nabble.com/kernel-2.6.32-experiences-td26458040.html. Thomas said that mkinitcpio automatically inserts firmware listed in modinfo module in the initramfs image. When I run modinfo radeon | grep R300, it shows me 'firmware: radeon/R300_cp.bin'. So it should be available to kernel at the time of requesting it, shouldn't it? Has someone any idea to help solving that problem? Thanks in advance. -- Gabriel Morrison

Hi I'm coming from an ubuntu background where this line in the udev.rule file worked. SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0fd1", ATTR{idProduct}=="1000", ATTR{bConfigurationValue}=="1",RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'echo 3 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/%b/bConfigurationValue'" However this does not work in Arch and I'm really struggling to understand the udev wiki and udev rules - its going a bit over my head at the moment. I have experimented with trying this line from looking at other udev rules: SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1000", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0fd1", RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'echo 3 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/%b/bConfigurationValue'" the device is then recognised but /var/log/messages then shows and endless looping of the device be connected and disconnected. [arch-general] speaking of Thunderbird 3.X - great new thread summary view

Guys, If any of you had done as I did and abandon thunderbird in favor of another mua and haven't looked at thunderbird 3.0 yet, you are in for a real treat if you view messages with threading. There is a new thread summary you are presented with when you select a collapsed thread that displays the first 3-4 lines for each message in the thread -- and -- gives you the option to delete the entire thread after reviewing the summary with a single click. [arch-general] Quanta - Installed w/kde4, but ssh/sftp/fish upload choices are gone??

Listmates, With my latest install, I didn't install kde3, but I did install quanta since that is what I use to maintain my home site. Tonight is the first time I've actually used quanta since the fresh install of arch to my laptop. I didn't notice the problem until I went to upload changes and got an error about my server being unavailable?? Checking further in 'Project -> Upload Project -> Edit' I notice the only transfer methods available in the listbox are 'file', 'ftp', 'webdav', 'webdavs'. Err... no ssh, fish or sftp anymore? I suspect the kde3 kio-slaves are missing and that quanta hasn't been updated to make use of the kde4 stuff. Obviously, I can use ftp... until I tried to. When I pressed upload, it was like I was trying to upload 200Mib instead of the actual 20k that needed. It was simply crawling along. Has anyone managed to get the project -> update configured to work correctly in quanta on kde4. If you did, how? What's the trick? I would hate to have to install kde3 just to get the quanta upload feature back. What say the experts? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
