Hi I'm coming from an ubuntu background where this line in the udev.rule file worked. SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0fd1", ATTR{idProduct}=="1000", ATTR{bConfigurationValue}=="1",RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'echo 3 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/%b/bConfigurationValue'" However this does not work in Arch and I'm really struggling to understand the udev wiki and udev rules - its going a bit over my head at the moment. I have experimented with trying this line from looking at other udev rules: SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1000", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0fd1", RUN+="/bin/bash -c 'echo 3 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/%b/bConfigurationValue'" the device is then recognised but /var/log/messages then shows and endless looping of the device be connected and disconnected. [arch-general] speaking of Thunderbird 3.X - great new thread summary view

Guys, If any of you had done as I did and abandon thunderbird in favor of another mua and haven't looked at thunderbird 3.0 yet, you are in for a real treat if you view messages with threading. There is a new thread summary you are presented with when you select a collapsed thread that displays the first 3-4 lines for each message in the thread -- and -- gives you the option to delete the entire thread after reviewing the summary with a single click. [arch-general] Quanta - Installed w/kde4, but ssh/sftp/fish upload choices are gone??

Listmates, With my latest install, I didn't install kde3, but I did install quanta since that is what I use to maintain my home site. Tonight is the first time I've actually used quanta since the fresh install of arch to my laptop. I didn't notice the problem until I went to upload changes and got an error about my server being unavailable?? Checking further in 'Project -> Upload Project -> Edit' I notice the only transfer methods available in the listbox are 'file', 'ftp', 'webdav', 'webdavs'. Err... no ssh, fish or sftp anymore? I suspect the kde3 kio-slaves are missing and that quanta hasn't been updated to make use of the kde4 stuff. Obviously, I can use ftp... until I tried to. When I pressed upload, it was like I was trying to upload 200Mib instead of the actual 20k that needed. It was simply crawling along. Has anyone managed to get the project -> update configured to work correctly in quanta on kde4. If you did, how? What's the trick? I would hate to have to install kde3 just to get the quanta upload feature back. What say the experts? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [arch-general] kernel26 in [current] cries for love when new kernel version hits [testing]

Hi, As far as I can remember i.e. quite far but also super blurry, as soon as a new kernel version hits [testing], the [current] version won't be updated anymore (it may have happened when _huge_ security issues had been discovered). Today, we're stuck at .31.6 when .31.8 is out. Not a complain as I have all the tools to build any kernel I'd like to run (1 machine running Arch stock kernel out of 4 anyway) but well, just sayin'... Cheers.

[arch-general] Inkscape maintainer MIA?

Hi arch-general, I'd like to point your attention to the Inkscape package: Inkscape version 0.47 was released on November 25. This is a very significant release that many Inkscape users have been waiting patiently. However, the Arch Linux Inkscape maintainer, Tobias Kieslich, seems to be missing in action. Looking at his FlySpray activity, his last comment seems to be dated November 18. Can anyone please look into resolving this? Regards, Marti

This is the second time I'm being stupid when modifying my mirrorlist and I by accident put in a i686 repo on a 64-bit machine. I can report that running 32-bit sudo on a 64-bit machine is fraught with problems :-) So, just to work around my stupidity I was wondering if it is possible to put something like $arch in the mirrorlist, so I can stop writing out i686/x86_64? [arch-general] [OT] What is wrong with DBus anyway?

Hi, fellow archers. I've created a new email with a new subject, so that who wants to ignore this completely, can do it easily. The recent past discussions about DBus got me thinking about an unanswered question: what is technically wrong with DBus? After some time researching about that, I can't find that answer by myself. DBus is just a way to make applications communicate. It can be used in several languages, namely C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, and many more. There are tools for it in bash, although there's some limitations with that, but is very easy to do something fast in python or perl or ruby or... It (DBus) has some interesting mechanisms to activate daemons just when needed. I find this feature very interesting, so that you only spend the resources when you really need. One restriction is that it is not network enabled, so it only works locally. But in the home page, there is a invitation to improve that situation (http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/DBusRemote) Anyway, I would like to read what others have to say about DBus, but please give techinical reasons. I don't want to know who likes and who dislikes DBus. And I don't have anything against who dislikes DBus. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Thanks. -- R: Porque prejudica a legibilidade do texto.
