[arch-general] Yikes! kernel26-2.6.32-1-x86_64 leaves Toshiba laptop unbootable

Guys, I had a fairly rude surprise when I pulled the testing updates tonight. The install of kernel26-2.6.32-1-x86_64 left my toshiba 205d laptop unbootable. The boot process would start as usual but then get to a point just after it had started X and lock. There was no way to ctrl+f1 to break out of X and the only solution was to reboot. I booted to the install cd, and chrooted everything in /mnt/arch and downgraded the kernel to kernel26-2.6.31.6-1 (along with madwifi) and now everything is back to normal. I have looked throught the logs, but I don't know where the useful information would be captured. [arch-general] Unable to Install Arch on Server

I have a Dell server (Power Edge 1855) blade that I am trying to install Arch Linux on. I have no problems installing / running Debian, CentOS, or Ubuntu on this hardware but when I try to boot from Arch CD (2009.08 Netinst or Core), I get an error: Waiting for boot device... Error: Boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds... Falling back to interactive prompt. You can try and fix the problem manually, log out when you're finished. ramfs$ I also built a new PC from home with parts purchased from Newegg.com. The machine runs perfect with almost any flavor of Linux / Windows but when I go to install Arch Linux as above, I get the same error. I have done md5 sum check on my ISO image and used the CD on other servers fine. I know the disk / image is not the problem. Anyone know how I can resolve this? [arch-general] coreutils 8.1 major problem

Hi everyone, I've just noticed coreutils 8.1 in [testing] repo and I think I should warn you. Unfortunatelly it has one quite bad regression which can break quite many scripts. There is a change in rm command (it's fixed in git repository) that when you try to remove "" it immediately exits without removing any other specified files. Unfortunately this breaks many scripts and Makefiles(IIRC there's problem with eg. libxt). Guys, No doubt most of you already know, but I just figured it out. If you use (or want to try) 'mc' (midnight commander), then try it with the configuration option 'Lynx-like motion' enabled. [arch-general] Setting LD_PRELOAD cripples Firefox

Mojn. Strange issue here. Intended to use libtrash on my system. I added export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libtrash.so.3.2 to /etc/profile to set it systemwide, LD_PRELOAD pointing to /usr/lib/libtrash.so.3.2 is needed in order to get libtrash to work - and it did. Here's the bummer, though. Doing so causes firefox to hang at startup. Any of you ot experinced this or know the reason? Cheers. /ndlarsen
