[arch-general] Why qemu/kqemu conflict to kvm ?

OK, ok, I want install qemu+kqemu and KVM in my machine. Why does they conflict? Sometime, I want my virtual machine run faster, so KVM is a great choice. But sometime, I need simulate other CPU: ppc arm ... , so qemu is the best choice. Why does them conflict? Can the community do some works to let them co-exist in the SAME archlinux installation?

[arch-general] 2 partitions with same UUID

I had problems with launching win xp it was crashing often since it didn't like my sata hard(sdb) drive or that it wasn't on boot disk most likely and since my root started to run out of space I decided to make some changes. move sda1(root) to sda2 while increasing sda2 size and install windows on sda1. sda is ata hard drive I increased sda2(it was used to test other linux distro) size up to 10gb from ~5.5GB with gparted Then did "dd if="/dev/sda1 of=/dev/sda2" from live usb install. Now when I do "sudo blkid" it shows that both sda1 and sda2 have same UIID. Any ideas how could I fix this?

Where should we report bugs for packages in community? Using the main Arch bug tracking system? If so, there's no selection under the "Category" pulldown for "Packages: Community" - just core, extra, and testing. If not, then where? Email the maintainer? Tnx, DR

[arch-general] defunct packages spooking around

Hi folks, Sorry for the halloweenish subject heading ;) I recently got this bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16690 It turned out it was not a bug with the perl package at all, but a problem which occurs when the presumably very old and no longer existing package "termcap-compat" is installed on a system. It was originally installed as a dependency for some other, unidentified package. And it turned out to my surprise that even I still had that package installed! That prompts me to ask the following: Are there other such obsolete packages that typically should no longer be installed on a "clean" Arch Linux system? I am not in favour of automating their removal, of course, but it would be useful to collect a list of such things that we could put in the wiki and/or our monthly newsletter. Another example that comes to mind is the obsolete file /etc/udev/udev.rules that I also still had until recently, and which I have removed after Thomas' suggestion. Please submit your suggestions for the forthcoming "Arch Ghostbusting Day" (aka "The Great Halloween Cleanup")! :) François

Still no luck with Pm-utils. It takes about a minute before the keyboard lights and mouse leds to go on, and Caps-Lock key works, so it isn't hanging. I could use the SysRq method to reboot my system, so I guess maybe everything is actually working -- except video. Using Ctrl-Alt-[1-7] to switch between ttys doesn't work, because my monitor doesn't even receive any signal.

Hi Because last time a user signoff for xfsprogs was required, I'm doing this now again. I rebootet, right now there's a xfs_fsr running and everything seems to be just fine. If there are more things I should test or run to be sure everything is ok, please just tell me. [arch-general] problem with Exaile - missing dependency somewhere maybe?

I had problem with Exaile when I try to play radio station. Exaile needs gstreamer's http support, and gstreamer needs libsoup-gnome for that. I didn't had libsoup-gnome installed, only libsoup, and trying to play radio in Exaile caused system to hang. Is that a missing dependency somewhere maybe? Greets, -- Nebojša Stričević

[arch-general] Splitting up the 'boinc' package

Hi, I'm new to this mailing list (and to mailing lists itself), so please forgive me any mistakes I'm doing ;). I hope that I use the right list, at least it seems to be the most adequate one ... However I'm participating in some BOINC projects. Although there is a 'boinc' package in the community repository (which was updated just yesterday). First of all I want to ask you why you have updated this package to a unstable version? According to this (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php) page the latest stable version is 6.6.38, but the version in the repository is 6.10.13, which is a development version. Shouldn't there be just stable versions in the repository? Furthermore I think that the package itself should be splitted. I have a root server, which has not X server installed, but want to use boinc there, too. Therefore I think there should be at least two packages 'boinc-client' as well as 'boinc-manager'. The optimum would be even some more packages, something like 'boinc-dev' (all stuff in order to setup an own boinc project). Maybe you can take some inspiration from the debian structure of the boinc packages: http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=boinc&searchon=names&suite=stabl… I know that it is possible to create this packages for my own (using abs), but I think it should be available for greater audience. What do you think about this? Would it be ok, to create these packages and submit them to the aur? As there is already a boinc package in the main repository, I don't quite know whether such redundancy is accepted at all? I'm sure there are a lot more people who feel this way, your replies make me a bit more confident that this situation can be changed. Maybe something can be done on Arch to work against this development? The closer to the core a package is the more careful we have to be with dependencies, I think. It's easy to replace a text editor, impossible to replace xorg, etc.. The other thing I can think of is talking to upstream. Maybe they're not that aware of this issue and think along the lines of: "Everyone has HAL installed anyway, it's no problem if we use it to do xyz." Philipp
