[arch-general] Failover to LTS in the Arch boot processt?

Guys, I'm curious. Since there is now an LTS kernel, has anyone thought about adding a few lines of code to the Arch boot process that would provide for automatic failover to the LTS kernel in the event the normal kernel failed to load during the boot process. The thought is to provide redundancy for servers in the case where the regular kernel becomes corrupt (for whatever reason, disk problem, etc...) and a reboot is forced (exhausted UPS, etc..) I don't know what it would take or if it is doable. I had just envisioned adding a trap that catches the failure of the regular kernel to boot, checks for the presence of the LTS kernel, and if installed boots the LTS kernel in this case. I haven't looked deep enough into the Arch boot process to know if it is feasible, but it just seemed like a good bit of extra protection that Arch could provide for server installs where the server operates on the regular kernel but also has LTS installed as a backup. I'll leave it to the gurus to consider. If it's not doable or not worth doing, then just consider it another of my stray thoughts worthy of the DEL key ;-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [arch-general] musepack-tools version in community

Hello, Asunder (in [Community]) has an optional dependency on musepack-tools SV8 (not actually included in the PKGBUILD). Musepack-tools in [Community] is version SV7 while the current stable (SV8) has been available since March. Trying to make a pkgbuild I noticed that it depends on two libraries (libcuefile and libreplaygain) which are obtainable only through musepack's svn. Is this the reason why there is only the previous version in the repos? Regards, JM

It would be nice if it was easily possible to compare a pkgbuild against a corresponding 'official' pkgbuild (from ABS). disclaimer: i haven't thought this through so here are some ideas. consider this a brainstorm - on AUR, many packages are customized versions (patches, vcs versions, alternative compile options,..) of official packages so maybe AUR packagers could fill in an official packagename as 'base' package. the webinterface could then show a diff against the official pkgbuild - maybe this can be done on the makepkg level by passing some flag. it would be less point and click but would work for non-aur pkgbuilds. - everything in 1 big git repo: official packages, community, AUR,.. through branching they can be nicely separated but it would make things easier to generate diffs. dieter

Amarok 2.2 rc1 was released today. It needs taglib 1.6 with asf support. [arch-general] [PATCH 0/3] Three smelly patches for commitpkg

First two patches are somewhat trivial. The third one adds support for uploading packages to multiple architectures. Let me explain the rationale behind the last patch. My workflow goes something like this: 1) sudo makechrootpkg -c -r /opt/arch/stable-i686 2) sudo makechrootpkg -c -r /opt/arch/stable-x86_64 3) scp *pkg* aur.archlinux.org:staging/community 4) source PKGBUILD; svn commit -m "$pkgname $pkgver-$pkgrel random message" 5) archrelease community-i686 6) archrelease community-x86_64 7) ssh aur.archlinux.org /arch/db-community As you can see, I'm doing all steps manually (which is time-consuming and prone to errors). Unless I'm missing an existing way to upload packages to both architectures using commitpkg (via its communitypkg symlink), the third patch can help automate steps 3-6 above. I uploaded one package (that needed updating) using the modified commitpkg and it worked as expected. However, more testing is needed, especially with split packages. Please let me know what you think. :)
