[aur-general] Copy.com dueling packages

There are 2 packages for the Copy.com client software package: copy - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/copy/ copy-agent - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/copy-agent/ I think both have PKGBUILD problems, from dependencies (the Copy.com software uses Qt4, not Gtk, for instance) to poorly formed PKGBUILDs (one has just a package() method and one has just a build() method). I'm not really sure how this should be resolved, mostly because I wouldn't pick one over the other right now. Any one with more PKGBUILD confidence want to step in? A first release candidate of the AUR 3.0.0 has been released! You can give it a try at [1]. Note that due to internal changes, the setup at aur-dev.archlinux.org uses a different database than aur.archlinux.org. You should be able login using your regular AUR account, though. The most important changes are: * Full split package support. * Support for {make,check,opt}depends, conflicts, provides, ... * Full support for the new fields in the RPC interface. * Metadata support. Use mkaurball instead of `makepkg --source` to generate source tarballs for the AUR`. You can get it from [2] -- it will eventually be moved to [community]. Note that in order to obtain the new fields, you need to request the new version of the RPC API explicitly, like this: https://aur-dev.archlinux.org/rpc.php?type=info&arg=pass&v=2 Otherwise, the replies default to the old format for compatibility reasons. Please remove glm-0.9.4 [1] and glm094 [2] as both are orphan and unneeded/obsolete. small explanation: vertoe (the submitter) meant to use it as a dependency for some other package he is working on. I contacted him and discussed the problems involved in having a static version of glm as dependency. I apologize for my uncharacteristic lethargy toward keeping these updated. Between things at work and health issues, I regret that I haven't been paying as much attention to the AUR as I should. If there is something out of date that is critical and needs immediate attention, you may contact me off list at my main email: jnbek1972(a)gmail.com and I will either update the pkgbuild or orphan the package for you to take over. Hi there. Sudokuki has 'java-runtime' [1] as dependency and I have 'jre7' [2] (from AUR) installed (which 'provides' java-runtime=7)... When I try to compile sudokuki, makepkg warns me: :: jre7-openjdk and jre7 are in conflict (java-runtime). Remove jre7? [y/N] I don't want to install jre7-openjdk [3], as I need jre7. Why "java-runtime" is not working as expected? How can I make jre7 be recognized as java-runtime ? The main purpose of these packages was to deliver systemd unit files instead of cron jobs and the official packages added those. Hello all, With the arrival of ghc 7.8.1 [0], I would like to address the following problems with a restructuring of how we treat haskell packages in archlinux: Problem 1: Updating any haskell package has been delayed until we bump ghc. Explanation: ghc is unable to produce a library that has a stable abi. In other words, if a library gets rebuilt (even if it's the same exact source), we will need to rebuild all package that depend on it, and this would in turn a messy rebuild for any kind of rebuild. Problem 2: Users are confused whether they should install packages from the repos or using cabal-install. This in turn sometimes causes them to install some packages from official repos, some from the aur, and some using cabal-install Explanation: Packages should ideally be installed from one place, either using repos/aur or cabal-install. Said that, it is entirely possible to use both repos/aur and cabal-install but for simplicity, one source is preferred. Problem 3: Our repos are unable to package every haskell package Explanation: hackage has over 5000 haskell packages in it currently. There is no way we will be able to support that many packages in our official repos without some kind of automation. And even if it would be possible, it would not necessarily be desirable. In addition, it is entirely possible to have multiple versions of the same package installed at the same time. Cabal has a very elaborate dependency solver in order to find versions that will work for all package versions installed. In addition, cabal-install 1.18 (the latest released) has added support for sandboxes, meaning that when developing haskell programs, you are now able to setup a sandbox environment that will only contain the haskell packages you want. I would like to propose the following changes to address the mentioned problems and having the ability to use sandboxes to isolate development environments. Change 1: Move every haskell related package out of [extra] into [community] except ghc and cabal-install. This includes the following 8 packages: haskell-http, haskell-mtl, haskell-network, haskell-parsec, haskell-random, haskell-text, haskell-transformers, haskell-zlib Explanation: These packages are only required to build cabal-install. Since we converted the cabal-install package to use the bootstrap script that comes with it, we no longer depend on these packages for anything in [extra]. Change 2: Make a news item stating that cabal-install is now the recommended way to install haskell packages. This wouldn't pollute the filesystem since cabal-install installs packages to the ~/.cabal directory by default. We might need to include a tip sheet about how you would handle ghc updates since it requires extra user steps. Change 3: Support users who are unable to install haskell packages that do not compile under archlinux. This would require working with the user and upstream to open up tickets and write patches for programs. At the very least we can work with the user if they do not to open up upstream bug reports and track them in our own bug tracker. There might be some packages which we would probably consider unsupported like bindings to packages that are not in the supported repos and packages that have no upstream activity and ones that are effectively unmaintained. Hopefully with the proposed changes, we can improve our user experience with using official tools to maintain haskell packages. I realize that some changes might be controversial especially change 3. This is why I posted this here in order to discuss the possibilities. I would also love to hear some opinions from vegai since he has some previous experience package haskell and has had similar thoughts in the past. Hi With Qt5 becoming more and more available throughout Qt apps (especially as KDE progresses into the switch), I think it's time to consider adopting an updated naming scheme. IMHO: - Qt4 apps should use the -qt4 suffix - Qt5 apps should not use any suffix or prefix - Qt libraries should probably use a qt- prefix. (eg what is currently qt5-base, qt5-doc etc should become qt-base, qt-location). Or alternatively, no prefix at all and use upstream naming scheme (qtbase, qtlocation, ...) Thoughts? J. Leclanche

Please delete: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cw/ I attempted to fix this packages, but to no avail, it does not compile, upstream has not made a release since 2010. Also there is concern that certain core commands, like mount for instance, break horribly resulting in some cases in the system being unable to boot. Hello, veewee [1] is a great tool for building vagrant boxes. Unfortunately, it depends on many other gems. I've already built a package ruby-veewee [2] using Arch packages as dependencies and there is a git version, veewee-git [3], but I find them unsatisfactory because of how difficult they are to package with the right version for each gem. vagrant has recently been accepted in community and has a PKGBUILD that I find peculiar. It seems like it uses some embedded directory to store gems it depends on. Sorry, I'm not very familiar with Ruby and gems. What I would like to achieve is similar. How can I package veewee-git so that required gems are built to and loaded from /opt/veewee/gems ? I have tried several combinations with "gem install" and bundler but without success. A lot of effort is duplicated with regards to Archlinux's official haskell packages and Arch-Haskell's packages. We could try to work out something between the existing haskell package maintainers and arch-haskell maintainers. It might lead to a possibly better overall haskell experience on archlinux. Arch-haskell could maintain official haskell packages using pacman. I (and anyone interested) could support haskell package installation using the cabal-install route.

Hi all, Openstack is a collection of projects aimed at providing a opensource solution to cloud infrastructure deployment and management, It's similar to products such as Proxmox, Virt-manager and Vmware. The projects that contribute to Openstack are tightly linked through a set of API's, and like most projects these API's change as newer versions are released You will find most of the Openstack packages in the AUR, but no one has followed a set naming scheme so the packages are from different incompatible branches. Deploying Openstack from the AUR is not achievable at this point in time due to this A number of maintainers and users have noticed the issue, I have created this email to highlight the issue and kick start a discussion to solve it. Lance0312 has suggested using the raw package name (nova, glance, kesytone ect) for the stable (currently havana) branch, and appending -dev to all development branches (currently ice-house) Another issue is the lack of information in the Wiki relating to Openstack, due to this Lance0312 has created https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/OpenStack (yet to be populated) Regards -- James aka nekinie

[aur-general] maintain an orphan package

I needed to install on my server rstudio-sever[1]. Looking at the AUR repository, I found one orphan rstudio-server-git package. I used this one as a base to build/install the package on my server. As everything went smooth, I decided to adopt the package[2]. I downloaded the tarball and $ makepkg -i , to ensure everything is OK. The PKGBUILD file in the tarball is mine, with the correct commands, but the "view PKGBUILD" action is still showing the PKGBUILD from the old owner. Is there a reason for this behavior ? Did I miss something when uploading my pkg ? The "submitter" is still to NONE in the package detail, why ? TY for advice. 1. According to the comments, xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git2 is just a duplicate of xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git. It has been orphaned. The only difference in PKGBUILDs (apart from the package name) is that xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git2 has 2 extra makedependencies: git and xorg-util-macros. At least git shold be added to the makedepends (as pointed out in the comments of https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git/ by klusark - the user who uploaded xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git2 - but I think xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git2 should be removed. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git/ https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86-video-intel-xwayland-git2/ 2. Hi TUs, I've got a bit of a strange request this time. AUR user "Diego" [1] has been inactive and unresponsive [2] for a while now. His last post to the mailing list was in September [3], and he hasn't responded to a query I sent two weeks ago R.E. the slimlock package [4]. Therefore, I am requesting that all of his packages [5] be disowned (possibly after a two week grace period to give him a chance to respond -- I've CC'd him in). I would also like to request that [4] be disowned now, so I can update it. I'm hoping he does respond, if only to confirm that he's inactive; casual stalking shows that he hasn't updated his g+ or youtube in a while either, which is worrying.. They are all developed and packaged together in one launchpad project. That is why we have two main packages in the AUR for installing Compiz 0.9, compiz-dev and compiz-bzr. I've had a look on launchpad and this seems to be the case. For instance: The compiz-ccsm page (https://launchpad.net/compiz-ccsm) lists 0.9.5.92 as the latest version when it's actually 0.9.10. Therefore (unless I am much mistaken) all the packages above are obsolete and can never be updated to their latest upstream versions. I propose that all the dev packages above be merged with compiz-dev (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/compiz-dev/) and all the bazaar packages be merged with compiz-bzr (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/compiz-bzr/)

The following package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/bluecurve-cursor-theme/ conflicts with this package in the official repos: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/any/xcursor-bluecurve/ But the AUR package provides extra variants on this cursor theme that the official repos package does not provide. The AUR package in question is currently orphaned. I'm happy to adopt it, fix the pkgbuild and ensure that it only installs the variant themes and not the main theme that the official package provides. In this case it could be renamed to xcursor-bluecurve-extra or something like that? Or should the aur package simply be deleted? What should happen here?
