Nothing has changed, I have just installed updates, and nothing was mensioned on archlinux.org. Hi, This package, orca-git, doesn't build and has been out of date for a long time. The person who used to maintain it has switched to mac (EWWW! GROSS!) I would like to take over this package. This is due to the following lines in `octave-hg` [2] PKGBUILD: depends=('fftw>=3.2.2' 'curl' 'fltk' 'hdf5' 'glpk' 'arpack' 'gl2ps' \ 'qrupdate' 'qscintilla' 'qhull' 'graphicsmagick' 'java-environment') The problem doesn't seem to appear with `yaourt` [3] . Hi everyone, What's the current recommended way to support multiple mirrors for the same source file in a PKGBUILD? For example, I have xyz-123.tar.gz that can be downloaded from any of "http://a.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz" " http://b.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz" "http://c.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz"...but one of these may be down at any given time. If there's no support for this in the sources array itself, we should strongly consider adding it. For example, an ad-hoc way: _pick_source_mirror() { # ... do something smart in here } source=( "xyz-123::$(_pick_source_mirror( http://a.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz http://b.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz http://c.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz ))" ) A less ad-hoc way: source() { #...some code that returns a list of URLs/files } Another way: source=(...files without mirrors as usual...) sourcemirrored=( xyz-123::($mirroraURL $mirrorbURL $mirrorcURL) ) Mirrored sources seem like a common enough phenomenon that it's worth special treatment to make the source PKGBUILD variable more versatile if they're not currently supported. Hi I would like to discuss VCS package versioning that is described here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VCS_PKGBUILD_Guidelines I am looking at the -git packages but it also applicable to other VCS. Here is the suggested way to create the version local ver="$(git describe --tags)" echo "${ver//-/.}" so 0.7-19-ge4e6e20 will turn into 0.7.19.ge4e6e20 The problem is that the revision number (19 in this case) looks like 3rd component in the version. Now imagine upstream project releases version 0.7.1. The generated version becomes 0.7.1 (and then 0.7.1.1.gfoobar). With the new tag the generated version becomes smaller (0.7.1.1 < 0.7.19). That is the real problem that I had with tup-git package - upstream uses both 2 and 3 component versions. We should recommend a way that works this case. There is a discussion in the comments and the best recommendation is to use following recipe: git describe | sed -E 's/([^-]*-g)/r\1/;s/-/./g' The idea is to find the commit number and start it with "r" (revision). "r" is smaller than a number so it will help in our case. 0.7-19-ge4e6e20 => 0.7.r19.ge4e6e20 Another issue is a repo that has no tags. Here is a recommendation from the wiki page: printf "%s.%s" "$(git rev-list --count HEAD)" "$(git rev-parse --short HEAD)" that will use number of commits (a large number e.g. 3000). The problem arises when the project creates first tag e.g. 0.1. I suggest to fix this problem by using "0" as a tag version (and add prefix 'r' like in the previous item). This makes sure that non-tagged version is always less that a tagged version. So pkgver() will look like: printf "0.r%s.%s" "$(git rev-list --count HEAD)" "$(git rev-parse --short HEAD)" Let me know if you have any objections. If not then I'll update the wiki page.

Hello, I am the maintainer for two projectm packages in the AUR, namely projectm-jack and projectm-libvisual-alsa. I think it would be best if these were also included in the split PKGBUILD for projectm related packages in the official repos. I see no reason to keep them separate in the AUR. P.S. I see that projectm-jack is now in the repos. Should I drop a message on the AUR mailing list to have that merged? P.P.S. I tried putting this in arch-dev-public, but it's not open for comment to the public it seems. I'm not entirely sure where to direct this, but since it is sort of related to the AUR, here seemed like a possibility. Allen

Hi, I have made a package for espeakup that pulls the git version and installs it. It has a systemd file so that espeakup can start with boot. After installation is complete though, the system file needs to be edited to set the voice the user wants to use, e.g. en-us, en-sc, etc. Can I just put a standard prompt in the pkgbuild? E.g. read -p "Enter the voice file you want to use, e.g. en-us: " voice Currently I just set it to en-us by default which means the person who uses it would have to edit the systemd file to change it. Hi all, it's cleaning time! As museek+ sources were recently moved from svn to git, I thought it would be good time to have a look at our packages for them. Therefore, please merge museekd-svn [1] and museeq-svn [2] into museekd-git [3] and museeq-git [4], respectively. Please also merge museekbindings-svn [5] into [3], as they're provided by that package (as long as the user has python2 installed). Next, please remove museek-plus [6], which is very old and not working for a long time. And last, we have to get rid of museekplus-svn [7]. I am not sure how, because it is substituted partially by [3] and partially by [4]. Feel free to distribute the points however you find most suitable or even just remove the package :). It's currently possible to do this for .sig files (through the source array), but not available for simple sha/md5 hashes. Hi, six weeks ago, i asked for advise how to deal with the outdated AUR package of my program xorriso, which overwrites the executables of the properly maintained package https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=libisoburn On advise of this list, i later posted comments to https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xorriso/ https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xorriso-tcltk/ which received no reply and did not cause any activity. A month ago i wrote to the published mail address of the maintainer "dreieck". No reaction since then. What can i do to instigate the resolution of this mess ? Meanwhile the AUR package "xorriso" overwrites the current "libisoburn" version xorriso-1.3.2 by a xorriso version, which is three releases and 8 months older. Between both releases there happened 13 bug fixes. Have a nice day :) Thomas

It appears to have only been made due to the original maintainer of ffmpeg-full-git not responding quickly, and the maintainer of ffmpeg-full-git-fixed has stated in the comments that he no longer maintains it. Hello everyone, I like Arch (and its philosophy) and I'd like to contribute to the development of our community. So, according to above, I'd like to become a Trusted User. And here is some information about me. About me. My name is Evgeniy Alekseev and I'm a PhD student. I'm working in Moscow State University (yep, I'm from Russia =)). My speciality is theoretical and quantum chemistry. At leisure I write small applications on C, C++ and Python (and some application scripts on Shell), link to the github profile may be found below [1]. In order not to seem like a bearded nerd sometimes I listen music and read Robert Jordan's or George R.R. Martin's books (or other similar). =) In the global Internet (including bbs, bugtrackers, freenode, github) I have usually nickname "arcan1s". About my contribution. Unfortunately, I didn't contribute to the development of the Linux community (I didn't commit to kernel repo for example), but I wrote (and writing now) some applications with GPL license, that may be useful for somebody. In some open-source projects I reported bugs (kate-cpp-helper-plugin for example) or even suggested the solution (qmmp-qsmmp). I rarely report bugs, because it is usually difficult to understand is this a bug or a feature. Sometimes (because I'm a little shy) I write in our bugtracker or in mailing lists/IRC channel. I'm maintaining several packages in AUR that may be found on the link below [2]. As you may see, some of this packages is my applications. For some others (such as scidavis, qscite) I wrote patches for correct build. About my Application. I asked Sergej Pupykin if he could be my sponsor and he agreed to do so. I have two laptop with Arch (both are x86-64, but I may install to one i686 system). And on one of those (that used as workstation) I'm actively using testing repo and have a lot of packages installed from AUR. According to list of packages that I'm maintaining (and according to the idea that users should support only those packages that they use) I'd like to maintain scientific applications (mathematics, physics, chemistry, some of biology), KDE-based and some of Qt-based applications. Hi, I ran into issues building libdbf<https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libdbf/> on my machine - and apparently I'm not the only one. It seems like the package is broken. It wasn't enough to simply add my architecture to the PKGBUILD, I also followed cassava's instructions to fix the name conflict in endian.{h,c} Since it looks like the original project is long dead on Berlios (and still using CVS), I moved the code over to Github<https://github.com/quentindemetz/libdbf> where it will have increased visibility. I'd like to update the PKGBUILD to use this new source ( https://github.com/quentindemetz/libdbf/archive/0.0.2.tar.gz or https://github.com/quentindemetz/libdbf/archive/0.0.2.zip) I've contacted the package's maintainer. but have yet to receive a response. Some of my own packages require the new version of the Perl package provided by $subject; therefore the lack of an update is holding me back. I've flagged it as being out-of-date on 2013-09-13. I've added a comment about this on 2013-09-19, and I've emailed the maintainer on 2013-09-26. I have yet to receive a single sign of life from him. Hi, I'm the author of Lutris ( http://lutris.net ) and I would like to ask for the removal of the lutris-bzr package in AUR ( https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lutris-bzr/ ). Reasons for removal are: - The trunk version is by definition unstable, users who want to test it should explicity do a bzr checkout. - The dependencies are outdated. - There is a stable version in tar.gz format on the website which can be used instead. - I migrated from bzr to git, I won't commit on Launchpad for this project anymore. - I will probably delete the launchpad code, in order to avoid confusion. Hey all, I pinged the list a week ago about [1] noting that I had contacted the maintainer with no response, but that it had only been a week since I had contacted them. A second week has passed and I still have not received any word from the maintainer, nor has the package been updated. I would ask that it be orphaned so I can update it to the latest standards of VCS packaging. On a related note, it would appear that this maintainer has become rather inactive; I am unsure what the ruling is now for orphaning packages of maintainers who are no longer active, but whatever the case may be, the TUs may want to add this inactive maintainer to their list.
