[arch-general] Why couldn't pacman resolve the dependency?

Hi, the problem could be solved by installing the problematic dependency first, but why couldn't pacman -Syu not resolve the dependency? [arch-general] Question on removing pacman keys (and adding new ones)

Hi there! In relation to making virtual machine images of Arch I noticed that sharing images with pacman keys inside would enable two systems to present spoofed packages to the other unnoticed. True? It seems like a good idea to remove and re-add pacman keys specific to each system again, later. I wonder how to best remove the system-specific keys (not secure deletion, just not breaking the system) and how (more than when) to re-add new ones to the existing system to get it back to fully functional. [arch-general] Generating Arch OpenStack images

Hi! TL;DR: Bullet-style summary at the end. I registered for a closed beta account at CloudScale [1] a few weeks ago and noticed that they offer a number of Linux flavors: Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, .. but no Arch Linux. They use OpenStack with the official OpenStack images [2] of Debian, Ubuntu and so on. It seems there are no official OpenStack images for Arch. There are the ec2 images of Uplinklabs [3] but that's all I find on the net. I have been working on a tool called image-bootstrap [4] for a while, originally aimed at creating virtual machine images for Debian and Ubuntu. Recently, I have added Arch Linux support to image-bootstrap (and created an Arch equivalent of Debian's debootstrap [5] called "directory-bootstrap" in the process, same code base). Since today, when passing the --openstack option to image-boostrap, it does create bootable Arch OpenStack images. But there is something missing. When giving birth to a new virtual machine, an OpenStack image file [6] of say 1 GiB size is copied onto a say 50 GiB "disk", some kind of block device passed to a hypervisor. The original image was generated believing that the given hard disk was say 2 GiB in size, some fixed size, not the size that OpenStack is actually launching virtual machines with. To give access to the full disk space to users, OpenStack images are prepared to do the following: 1. During early boot (initramfs time), the one and only partition is enlarged to the full size of the disk. 2. during normal boot, cloud-init is running resize2fs to enlarge the ext4 root file system to the new size of that partition. It's a little crazy, but it works: the user hardly notices. In Debian, apart from cloud-init that magic is done by packages cloud-utils and cloud-initramfs-growroot of cloud-initramfs-tools [7]. While Arch does have cloud-init, I find cloud-utils in AUR only and no cloud-initramfs-growroot at all. I am looking for Arch developers to bring these to the Arch master repository. There is yet something else: Trust. Anyone can make images and upload them but who is going to trust the image if it is not signed by a person that they trust? There is a group of five people in the Arch master signing keys [8]. One of them created, signed and uploaded the archlinux-bootstrap-*.tar.gz files that users rely on. My hope is that one of these five is willing to use image-bootstrap [4] to create, sign and upload OpenStack images as well. Let me summarize: * Arch OpenStack images are in reach * cloud-utils and cloud-initramfs-growroot need packaging for the Arch master repository. Can you take over? * image-bootstrap (and directory-bootstrap) [4] can be of help with bootstrapping Arch Linux today. * I am looking for master signing key members interested in using image-bootstrap for OpenStack image generation. Hello. Just installed update pacman-mirrorlist -20150618-1, installed by pacman as /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.pacnew, and there is nothing exotic about my /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist. I just normally update my mirrorlist by doing: sudo reflector --verbose --country 'United States' -l 200 -p http --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist as suggested by the Arch wiki pacman article. Should I again just: sudo reflector --verbose --country 'United States' -l 200 -p http --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and then just delete /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.pacnew?

Hi, all. Mutt's the bee's knees, but a recent install has revealed that the HTML manuals in /usr/share/doc/mutt have been replaced with an empty text file, /usr/share/doc/mutt/manual.txt. Can anyone confirm this? I performed a fresh install, just to make sure I wasn't off my rocker. Might mutt's manuals not mean much to most men?

Hi, I was looking for a way to mount google drive as a FS, and found [1] and [2]. >From [2], the fuse application recommended was google-drive-ocamlfuse [5]. It's available from Aur. However the amount of ocaml dependencies to get it installed was huge, and many from Aur itself. Therefore I dropped it as an option for me. >From [1], there were 2 fuse applications that got my attention, fuse-google-drive [3] and gdrivefs [4]. Both available through Aur. I was wondering if someone is using any of them. I followed instructions for fuse-google-drive, and after authenticating I'm always getting: -------- ... One needs to go and do "fusermount -u" to it... Well, although this should mount "read only", as the author indicates, it's the smallest mountfs application, and the one with less dependencies. Is anyone else using it successfully? It seems last commit was on 2012-09 unfortunately. Like there's no further work on it. Is that the case? Gdrivefs is a different story. It's working for me, and its last commit was on 2015-06 (just this month). I'm using the git version on Aur. The only problem with gdrivefs is the several dependencies on python2 stuff. Not as many as the ocaml solution, but definitely way more than fuse-google-drive. Any problems at all with gdrivefs? If someone is using whether fuse-google-drive or gdrivefs, please share any drawbacks, pitfalls, how to make it work in teh case of fuse-google-drive, and some other stuff you might want to share. [arch-general] Debugging third-party library's segfault if its caused by system update?

I use the openni2 library to access an Asus Xtion Pro Live camera, installed from the AUR and working fine up till 2+ weeks ago. After a 2 week holiday, the most recent system update caused segfaults to happen within the library (both before and after rebuilding it), without any change to the code calling the library. Same segfault happens with the simple sample applications included in the library (previously running fine). How do I track down the issue? The library's source code is available, but without knowing it well I'm unsure where to even begin. Normally I'd contact the authors, but as this issue was caused (on my system) by a system update I think I'd need to do some tracking down first.
