[arch-general] Lenovo carbon X1 and kernel 3.19 issues

Hi guys, I have a Lenovo Carbon X1 third generation, just bought a few months ago. Everything worked perfectly but a week ago I upgraded to the new kernel version: "Linux carbon 3.19.2-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Mar 18 16:21:02 CET 2015 x86_64 GNU/Linux" After that two problems started: 1. Sometimes after resuming from suspension Xorg becomes crazy. I use Awesome as VM and basically it still shows something but I can't click or do anything, and the weird thing is that if I kill "Awesome" and start it again, same problem. It only starts to work normally again when I reboot the machine. The problem is not Awesome either because I tried also Fluxbox and Xfce4 but still the same problem. I can't see any clue from the logs either, any idea what I could look at? Thanks a lot PS. About 1. sometimes while listening to music the computer would give a tiny shock that made the external monitor skip and a small shock in my headset, which was very annoying, and makes me thing is a hardware issue.

[arch-general] Why are there no debug packages?

There has been many discussions and requests for separate debug symbol packages, even people offering to implement modifications needed for separate debug repos. But now, several years later, debug packages did not happen. I couldn't even find a definitive answer why there couldn't be debug packages in the official repos. So, why are there no debug packages (not even for the commonly requested ones like KDE and glibc)? [arch-general] Kernel Module snd_seq_midi No Longer Inserted Automatically

I'd like help regarding a problem I'm having with kernel module snd_seq_midi. Until sometime in March this module was being automatically inserted; that's no longer happening. The module is still present and can be manually inserted with modprobe. I know that snd_seq_midi is part of package "linux" but I don't know what's responsible for automatically inserting the module. I'd appreciate any information as to how I can find out. The issue may have started with my update of linux to 3.19.2-1 on March 21. Today I updated linux to 3.19.3-1 but that didn't solve the problem. It's also possible that the issue is related to ALSA; I updated alsa-lib and alsa-utils to 1.0.29-1 on March 10. I'd appreciate any help regarding how snd_seq_midi used to be automatically inserted, or general information regarding how automatic module insertion works. Thanks.

System: VMware Player I added as kernel parameter: drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/1024x768.bin However, when I run `weston-launch`, then I always get an 800x600 desktop.

Hello fellow Arch users, Suddenly I cannot use my external monitor in the 1920x1080 mode, I add the following script that run every time I connect my thinkpad to the base: ``` #!/bin/bash set -x xrandr --output DP2-3 --mode 1920x1080 --right-of eDP1 xset m 1/2 1 ``` And after a update (I think) i can't use this resolution anymore. [arch-general] How secure is wifi-menu

hi I recently switched to a new laptop and therefore I copied all my wifi-configuration files (/etc/netctl) to the new one. Too bad that the wifi interface has changed (thanks to sysctl) and I wrote a small bash script, which should change the `interface` variable. By the way the script doesn't work very well, but I place it in the same folder with all the wifi-configuration files (/etc/netctl/) and I noticed that the tool `wifi-menu` is executing my script. I don't think this is a big vulnerability nor a bug, but if an attacker has the opportunity to place a bash file there, the system could be damaged by simple executing `wifi-menu`. Yes I know that the folder is not world / user writeable, but maybe some thoughts from the archlinux community?
