[arch-general] I can not login in my system with gdm after update to kernel 3.18.6

Hi all. After I upgrade to kernel 3.18.6, I was stuck at the login screen. I type the login and password, press the enter key and the login screen appears again. There are no problems with my login because I can login in the console normaly. After I downgrade to kernel 3.18.5 the problem desappears. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks. I have one server which does internal mail and nfs - which went weird after about a day on the new kernel. I remote admin via ssh - symptom on the terminal was many commands failed in bad ways. Though 'ls' seemed to be fine. e.g. vi - gave input/output error. journalctl -lf -> bus error Rebooted and it hung on shutdown - there were manu input/output errors on the console - after it stopped on systemd shutdown target and got no further - i hard powered off and back on. Machine came up fine - journalct shows all logging stopped at 9.14 pm and resumed as normal after the reboot at 10.30 pm. Any advice as to what to look for? Anyone else seeing strange IO errors after a period? thanks. gene

After upgrading to 3.18 I found that my rsync backup to a CIFS filesystem was failing on filenames that contained reserved characters in the set :<>|*?\ According to [1] the default strategy for handling these characters changed in 3.18, but in my experience (and according to [2]) it didn't work very well. A patch [3] addressing these problems seems to work for me. [arch-general] Any printer didn't work

Hi, I want to use multifaunctional printer Canon MP630 and HP Photosmart 5521. But both didn't work. I reinstalled system and whole package on this month. They worked before then. I checked: * Printers work on other system. * cnijfilter-mp620 ( for MP630), hplip and hplip-plugin ( for 5521 ) are installed. * CUPSd is installed and started. When connected a printer on KDE or Cinnamon, show notifification "New printer conncted." and nothing. Lately, neither show anything at a printer conneced. When add printer manually on cinnamon. The printer found, forward , search driver and freeze. When add printer manually on KDE. The printer found, show "Pcik a Driver" and said "Failed to search for recommended: driver: 'Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked tthe reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.' So I try "Manually Provide a PPD File". When I click "finish," printer name highlighted and disabled finish button. One day, I tried to add printer manually on KDE, finish button worked, added, and test page printed. But today, I attempted to print pages, but not work printer because "the printer is disconnected or turned off." I tried change cable and change port, but still "the printer is disconnected or turned off." I click "Resume printer" on KDE. Printer status changed to "Idle." I send print job, Printer status changed to "Printing," but soon changed to "Idle" without working. When printer reconnected, DE says "Configurating new printer." And return to the beginning but configured printer exists. I remove configured printer, but nothing to change. What should I do? Fully updated from testing repo. Bug filed: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43738 After this glibc update I am now getting: crond[952]: PAM unable to dlopen(/usr/lib/security/pam_unix.so): /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0: symbol __getrlimit, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference crond[952]: PAM adding faulty module: /usr/lib/security/pam_unix.so crond[952]: segfault at 59d6 ip 00000000000059d6 sp 00007fffea697798 error 14 in crond[400000+d000] Perhaps packages need to be rebuilt against the new glibc? In order for screen readers, like orca, to be able to access applications written in qt4 (qt5 handles all of this built in}, it needs a package called qt-at-spi. This is a bridge of sorts which links the qt accessibility API's to the at-spi daemon which orca uses to read the screen. This is in community, so this all works. However, there's an issue that's just obscure enough that I'm not sure how to handle it. The issue arises when 64 bit linux installations try to talk to 32 bit qt applications. Since the qt at-spi bridge is 64 bit, it can't communicate with the 32 bit app, so orca cannot read it. THis makes applications such as teamviewer and skype completely inaccessible on 64 bit systsms. I'm not certain teamviewer is written in qt, but I do knos skype is. Ok, ramble over. Is anyone interested in building a 32 bit version of the qt-at-spi package and possibly throwing it in multilib? THis does not need any maintenance, since this is only for qt4 applications, the package has been deprecated since the code has been murged into qt5. I've tried a few workarounds to no avail. I've tried downloading the i686 package and trying to get pacman to install it, this didn't work. I tried extracting the actual .so files out and placing them in lib32, but I don't know enough about how the underlying system works to make this work. Thoughts? Hello! When I'm doing "cd /etc/ssl/certs/ && ls -al" I see something like this: [...] lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 102 21. Dez 17:56 Verisign_Class_1_Public_Primary_Certification_Authority_-_G3.pem -> ../../ca-certificates/extracted/cadir/Verisign_Class_1_Public_Primary_Certification_Authority_-_G3.pem [...] All certificates are publicly writable. I never set chmod to 777 on this directory and I see a great security lack here. Any program could inject its own certificate there, you should know this isn't good ;) Tell me whether this is just an issue on my own system or a general issue. Hi, on a fresh install of arch linux I have first installed the nouveau video driver. Then I realise I must install the nvidia driver because one application doesnÍt work without it. I have linux kernel 3.14.31.-1-lts installed. My videocard is GeForce 7600 GT so I installed the nvidia-304xx-libgl nvidia-304xx-lts nvidia-304xx-utils I created the configuration file for X Window system: Section "Device" Identifier "Nvidia Card" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" EndSection In /etc/mkinitcpio.conf I have commented the line: #MODULES="nouveau" But, when I start X with 'startx' command, I get the error mentioned in subject of this mail. Hello, The core/wireless-regdb package is 6 versions behind the current version of the wireless regulatory database (and has been flagged as out of date on 2014-12-02). I contacted the maintainer with a patch last month. Since then there has been a new release of wireless-regdb and a corresponding (and required by the newest version of wireless-regdb) release of CRDA. I have not yet received a response from the maintainer and I have patches that update both packages to the latest versions, what would you advise me to do in order to have them applied?
