[arch-general] Errors regarding the ssl certificates

Curl needs to be recompiled with the new locations of the certificates. A quick glance at the PKGBUILD shows me that the compile flag --with-ca-bundle is set to /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt, while as of the last update (20140923-2 in testing), this location does not seem to exist any more. This throws up errors while running the AUR manager cower, which complains of a non-existent path. ABS has similar problems. -- Cheers!

[arch-general] Out-of-date sbcl has fairly serious ASDF bug

(I originally attempted to send this to arch-dev-public, but apparently that's only for making discussions from a relatively closed circle visible? The list descriptions on the listinfo page were very ambiguous; if even things like packaging issues should go to -general if from third parties, perhaps the -dev-public description should be updated to be clearer about this.) The currently packaged sbcl 1.2.2-1 seems subject to the ASDF bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/asdf/+bug/982285 where systems installed into /usr (e.g., according to the Arch Linux Lisp Package Guidelines) are not found when the environment variable XDG_DATA_DIRS is unset. (A workaround is to set XDG_DATA_DIRS to /usr/local/share:/usr/share explicitly.) ASDF upstream has fixed this, and SBCL upstream includes the fix in 1.2.3. The sbcl package was flagged out-of-date ~23 days ago on 2014-08-29. I would very much like to run with a newer packaged sbcl rather than limping along with the workaround. Is there anything I can do to help speed things along, or can I only wait for the package maintainer? I'm half-expecting there to be some careful coördination required with other Lisp packages, since SBCL is such a prominent implementation, but I didn't find any obvious discussion about any of this previously... ---> Drake Wilson

[arch-general] Xorg hangs with nouveau

I initially used the proprietary nvidia drivers, but one of my favourite games, Wurm Online, used to crash very often when switching workspaces. Since I use a tiling window manager, that was not exactly ideal. I subsequently switched to nouveau, since the crash logs suggested that the nvidia drivers were at fault and indeed, no more crashes - so far so good. However, every now and then, Xorg decides to hang, which usually results in me doing a hard reset. So far, this has only happened when playing said game. While I would gladly blame it on the game, it should not be able to cause such issues and it is running fine for a friend of mine, also running nouveau. I actually managed to get Xorg to crash, I have attached the coredump. I tried looking at it with gdb (I compiled Xorg with debug symbols), but could not make sense of it. I also attached the xorg log that (I hope) belongs to the dump. I hope you can help me resolve this issue. It might be a bug of nouveau, but since the proprietary drivers also had issues, I suspect more. (Maybe my card is damaged?) Output of "lspci | grep VGA": 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK106 [GeForce GTX 650 Ti] (rev a1) I'm using up-to-date arch linux at the time of writing this Email on a x86_64 architecture. I am using a self-compiled version of Xorg to include debug symbols, no other changes (Was also happening with the Xorg version in the repo) and I'm using i3 as window manager, in case that is relevant.

[arch-general] Can't run Scribus

Hello, I upgrade my system and after that I can't run Scribus. I get error message: scribus: error while loading shared libraries: libpodofo.so.0.9.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory However I have installed package podofo and the command: locate libpodofo gives me the following output: /usr/lib/libpodofo.so /usr/lib/libpodofo.so.0.9.3 What is the problem here and how can I solve it? -- Regards from Pal

I have installed wsgi_mod and followed the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/mod_wsgi. I am getting a server error: ********************** Server error! [arch-general] Issues when updating mysql-connector-c++

Hi, Since mysql-connector-c++ 1.1.4 has been available for a few months I am trying to create a PKGBUILD for this version. The first problem I encountered was the MYSQL_LIB variable set to NOTFOUND by default. I circumvented this issue by hardcoding -DMYSQL_LIB=/usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so in my PKGBUILD [1]. However, I don't think this is the right solution. Does anyone know how to obtain the location of this library and pass it to cmake correctly? After this workaround make begins to build the library, but errors when linking an object file: [ 47%] Building CXX object test/framework/CMakeFiles/test_framework.dir/start_options.cpp.o Linking CXX executable driver_test ../driver/libmysqlcppconn.so.7.1.1.4: undefined reference to `mysql_options4' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status When viewing the symbols in libmysqlcppconn.so.7.1.1.4 (using readelf) I noticed that mysql_options4 is indeed available, but with an undefined index. So I searched for this error and found some info about undefined symbols, but not about this particular case or anything that could be related. Does anyone know how to solve this issue? I thought that it might be because I have libmariadbclient 10.0.13-1 installed and tried to build the connector against Oracle's libmysqlclient from AUR. This time, I got a different error: /…/src/mysql-connector-c++-1.1.4/driver/mysql_metadata.cpp:1216:74: error: ‘dynamic_cast’ not permitted with -fno-rtti connection(dynamic_cast< MySQL_Connection * >(service->getConnection())), ^ So somehow I should remove this flag from the compiler command line make uses. Hello, There will be a class taught by nisstyre called "Introduction to Scheme and Functional Programming". It will be on Friday, September 5th at 8pm UTC (4pm EDT, 9am NZDT) in #archlinux-classroom on the freenode network. The class is expected to run for 1-2 hours. Learn the basics of Scheme and how to write practical, useful functional code, while having fun! Both beginners and advanced practitioners are welcome to attend. There are no prerequisites but it helps to have some basic programming knowledge - like variables, conditionals, looping, and an idea of what a function is. Nisstyre is a long time user of Arch Linux (approx. 6 years). He is a programmer who previously worked in a startup. Currently he is a student doing academic research. Good Morning folks, my DM is behaving strange. The systems boote to a bblank screen with a mouse cursor. To be able tologin I have to press Ctrl+Alt-F2 followed by Alt+F1. The journal does not provide any clue that somethings going wrong. Any ideas? Thanks Frank
