[arch-general] SystemD: Is there a way to disable PrivateTmp globally?

Hi, Is there a way to disable Private Tmp globally? I know I can disable it by copying all the affected unit files to /etc/systemd and removing it there but is there a way to disable it once and for all? The reasons I want to disable it are: - I don't need it: this is a single user machine that sits behind a firewall and doesn't run any publicly available servers, so the security issues that private tmp solves are not important for this machine; - I want to know where the files are, and I especially do not want them in a tmpfs. According to the docs I was able to find, private tmp is implemented using "kernel namespace" but that tells me nothing about where the data is stored; - I want to be able to access those files for debugging purposes. For example, I have some custom Apache modules that dump debug information to files in /tmp and I need to be able to access them. Hi. I've a system where there's a harddisk encrypted with luks and a lvm pv over it, used for backup. This disk is never removed or inserted while system is online, but not in every boot up it's present. Setting this volume in crypttab, when disk is absent, cryptsetup service hangs for several seconds, before timing out and allowing systemd to complete boot. There's any way of avoiding this, may be putting it to background, or something like this? Thanks,

It may take more work though initially than keeping initscripts on arch currently and is not supported by Sabayon however you may receive help from some on the Gentoo list as setting it up is described here. http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Systemd The advice is to stick to binary (equo) or source (gentoo's emerge) but if you are confident the two are in sync at the time of build/install or you can keep an eye on the versions and compatibility of what you are installing/building, then you can mix the two and gain all the power of Gentoo and it's USE flags without the waste of energy or time and resources for compilation. _______ Cons _______ They recently dropped non-PAE kernel support, so a few pentium Ms from 2005-2007 will not work (Typically the system I happened to want to test it out on and so had to use an older laptop). You don't start with a minimalist system but they have many iso flavours, so one such as server or hardened server should suit as a start, if that's a reason you use arch. The package system is very very cool and colourful, but not as fast as pacman, possibly because it uses both hashes and signatures. [arch-general] GNOME 3.6 upgrade / GDM / Removed consolekit

Hi all, After reading the previous discussion on not needing to be in various groups like audio, optical etc, I decided to remove myself from a bunch of groups and "do the right thing" after upgrading to GNOME 3.6 earlier. I removed consolekit once pacman told me it was no longer required by any package, then culled myself from various groups - the important one being audio. When I login via GDM, it seems my "session" isn't active: % loginctl show-session $XDG_SESSION_ID | grep Active Active=no Therefore, I'm not added to ACLs for my sound devices and Pulseaudio fires up using a "Dummy" output. Not sure what to do here, I've done the following to try and fix it: - Disabled / re-enabled certain services, I've had systemd running for a while and a few things had changed / been updated (e.g. I now have a default.target and the display-manager.service whose symlink lives in /etc/systemd/system) - Tried messing around with pam (putting pam_systemd.so in a couple of spots). - Tried searching for documentation on what might be wrong, but most of the things I found relate to not using a display manager like GDM and just using startx. [arch-general] urxvtd frequently crashes

On my new install I've been using urxvtd to run terminals, and I'm finding that it frequently crashes. Either I'll switch to a window and it won't redraw or accept input, or I'll close a window and all of them will close. I was using the script in the urxvtc man page to spawn a daemon as required, and that either results in memory usage skyrocketing, or heaps of processes spawned waiting to connect to the daemon. What am I doing wrong? Searching the interweb has thus far found nothing except that if urxvtd crashes it brings down all the clients (which I've become quite aware of). AFAIK there's no glitches in my ~/.Xresources[1] I usually have a tmux session or two running, so I don't lose much, but it's still annoying when I lose an active download with aria2 or something like that. [arch-general] Systemd : A big big thanks to all the dev work

When # pacman -Rs consolekit a few mn ago, I was thinking of all the summer flame on this list about systemd. My Arch is since a while a 100% systemd, and honestly, as a newbye, I didn't experienced much issues, neither did I have any painful configuration to set up. I just wanted to publicly thanks all the Arch devs for this smooth transition. The average user i am is garteful and happy to belong to the Arch community.

When I execute "fc-list : file" (as stated at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Font_Configuration ) one of the lines is: /usr/share/fonts/Type1/ufonts.com_ti92pluspc.pfb: How do I now tell a particular class of xterm to use this font? In the ~/.Xresources I have a class called "drlog", and so I have a line that starts: ---- drlog*VT100*font: ---- but what do I put after the colon to force this class to use the font in the file /usr/share/fonts/Type1/ufonts.com_ti92pluspc.pfb?
